Rapha announce Press Conference for 15th June
Rapha bosses today announced that they are going to hold a Press Conference on the 15th June at the Rapha London Club.
With no news to why the Press Conference has been called, many have been left to let the rumours do the talking, as speculation on the team's future increases.
Rapha-Bianchi manager Phil Hoyle was unable to comment on the story, due to his team commitments in Switzerland, at the GP du canton d'Argovie.

Either they announce to renew their contract, or they announce they'll quit after this year. |

True, but Rapha only announces press conferences for bad news. |

@mvh & sutty: why fear the worst? Or have I made it too predictable? I was hoping for more speculation on the matter

GP du canton d'Argovie
6th June 2013
Our one and only race in June, before the National Championships, comes in Switzerland, at GP du canton d'Argovie.
We are going to use the race to finalise everyone's preparation for the National Championship in two weeks time. Our main hopes for either a jersey or a medal are present at the races, with others just here to offer support.
Remy Di Gregorio, Davide Villella and Adam Yates will co-lead the team between them, with the rider feeling the best on the day being the main focus.
Linus Gerdemann also comes to the race, wanting to put some final miles in legs, along with Rene Mandri and Simon Yates.
The squad is finalised by Trent Lowe and Dan Lloyd, working as domestiques.
Sponsor Goal: Top 5
Team Goal: Top 5
It was a group of 8 who attacked off the front of the peleton, with Leezer (BEL), T. Meyer (OGE) and Mandri being the main well known riders.
Time Gap -- 45km
Peleton > 4'59 > Leaders
AG2R and Katusha took the early control of the peleton, as the lead quickly extended out past to the 5 minute mark.
Time Gap -- 105km
Peleton > 5'46 > Leaders
Bold move by the team, but Davide was feeling good. With 60km to go, he began to set the pace, with Simon Yates offering protection. Suddenly he had a gap...
CRASH! Disaster for Rubiano (AND), as he touches wheels and hits the deck.
Time Gap -- 130km
Peleton > 1'13 > Group Villella > 1'56 > Leaders
After a fantastic chase, Villella and Yates bridged the gap to the lead group, and instantly we set a high pace. Leezer was the first drop, with many more soon following.
With one lap to go, the gap to the peleton was down to less than a minute. Action was taken as Villella attacked from lead group.
The final climb of the circuit, and the group of the front consisted of Villella, Bakelandts (RLT) and Nocentini (ALM). Santaromita (BMC) was giving chase behind.
Learning from Giro di Toscana, Davide tried to jump early in the sprint, but his breakaway attempt had had its effect.
Bakelandts was clearly the stronger sprinter of the group, and he comfortably takes the win. Nocentini takes 2nd, with Santaromita just beating Davide on the line for 3rd.
I forgot to export the results, it was only possible to show the Top 10

Rapha Press Conference
Rapha would like to thank everyone for their presence today, as we bring some news regarding the team next season. In relation to the Press Conference, we would like to read the following statement.
Rapha-Bianchi Racing Team are delighted to announce the signing of three new sponsorship deals for the 2014 season, in the form of Campagnolo, Selle Italia and Selev.
Component manufacturers Campagnolo will replace SRAM as the team's Groupset provider, as well as replacing Vision to supply us with the wheelset.
Selle Italia's sponsorship will start immediately with Rapha-Bianchi, with their logo appearing on the team's kit ahead of the National Championships.
Finally, Uvex have annouced that they are going to be withdrawing their sponsorship with Rapha-Bianchi at the end of the season. After two weeks of negotiations, we have been able to sign a deal with Selev, who will be our helmet provider next season.
Further to the above sponsorship announcement, Rapha-Bianchi are pleased to say that they are currently in the late stage of negotiation with two amateur riders, with the view to them joining the team in August as Stagiaires.
Oscar Ryan is a British stage racer, who had a great future ahead of him according to our scouts, whilst Mathias Audet is a French Canadian puncheur, who could have a very promising career ahead of him with the correct guidance.

Aye, a bit unexpected maybe. I thought of them pulling out but Selle Italia and Campagnolo are great additions to the team.

That's great news. Should improve the chances of getting a wildcard for the Italian WT races next season. You just have to sign Moser and Ulissi.
Would be nice to see an amateur Italian rider join the team too, but only if they are useful and not a waste of space and funds.
Edit: Forgot to comment on Villella's amazing 4th place in Switzerland. Too bad he did not have the energy to get on the podium.

@mvh: Italian amateurs are being scouted, but there has not been a rider who has caught the eye yet. Any signing would be a waste of a place on the team for someone more useful, but who knows what gem we might find

A Q&A session with Phil Hoyle
Over the last few weeks, Cyclingnews have been asking for the followers of the story to send in their questions to pose to Rapha-Bianchi Team Manager Phil Hoyle, as part of a feature leading up to next week's National Championships.
We would like to thank those who sent in the questions. I hope you like Phil's answers:
CyclingNews: Hi Phil, and welcome. How are you?
Phil Hoyle: Hi. I'm good thanks and delighted to be here.
CN: So let's get straight down to business. It is the team's first year in the Pro Peleton, and so far it was gone well. What is your view on your first 6 months in charge?
PH: I think it is going really well. The team has come together well, and the high quality performances came from our first race in the Australian Road Race Championships, when Nathan [Earle] finished on the podium. Everything has just gone on from there really.
CN: Well, 29 podiums [including stage wins and Classifications] speak for themselves. The team has certainly gelled well.
PH: The team is a nice mix of youth and experience. The old heads are showing their is life in the old dog yet, whilst the younger guys are just showing what potential they have. There is a real togetherness amongst them all.
CN: It has been well documented that there have been problems with Rapha during your time so far. Have the issues away from the racing had any effects on the squad?
PH: I honestly think that they have made the team stronger as a whole. Our results after Rapha's statements and press releases have proved that.
CN: We had a question from Selwink on this matter. Aren't you sad you don't have more influence in the team, considering the team has been withdrawn from the Tour Series without involving you?
PH: It is disappointing and yes I have had the moment where I feel like I have no control over the squad. I selected the squad and the schedule at the beginning of the season, and many of the British riders had targeted the Tour Series as their goals. Instead, they have to use their peak form on training rides, and there is no one to blame for this than Rapha themselves.
CN: I can see that the topic is still a sore point for you. I will move on to another subject. We have a question from sutty68. Simply put, What are your aims for the National Championships?
PH: We have our targets in the National Championships. The British and Italian Road Races are our main focus, for obvious reasons, whilst we think we could put in a good showing in the Danish Time Trial with Rasmus [Quaade]. We want to come away with a jersey in those races. Elsewhere, we will be happy with a good team showing, and anything else is a bonus.
CN: Looking ahead to the rest of the season, what can we expect from Rapha-Bianchi?
PH: We have our Season Goals at some smaller Italian races and the Tour of Britain, but we have the other goals along the way. Our strong start in the Premier Calendar has turned our focus towards winning the overall standings, whilst we are still awaiting to hear on the WT Wildcard entries for Il Lombardia and Tour of Beijing. Sadly, all other wildcard requests have been refused.
CN: Just before we finish, can you give us any news on possible transfers for next season?
PH: We have our targets, but I have to keep tight-lipped I'm afraid. All will be revealed in due course.
CN: Well we will wrap it up there, and thanks for your time. Good luck at the National Championships.
PH: Thanks for having me, and no doubt we will speak again soon.

@sutty: It was a good result. Happy that the tactic of pushing hard and then attacking once bridged to the break worked. Been wanting to do it a lot on the game.
