12th July 2011 - Le Tour de France
(Aurillac - Carmaux)
The 10th stage is a stage that could go either way for the peleton. A rolling profile, it looks perfect for a breakaway, but with only a few stages left for the sprinters, it could end in a mass sprint.
The main aim for today will again be the Intermediate Sprint. It comes only 30km into the stage, so full control from the start is the plan. After that, it all depends on how the stage pans out.
13km: Full HTC control was taken from the off, with the plan on keeping everything togther til after the Intermediate Sprint.
22km: A group of 3 riders tried to get away with 8km to the sprint point, but the peleton was in hot pursuit behind.
27km: The lads did a great job pulling them back. I really felt sorry for those who had to keep up with us at the front.
30km: All was going to plan until Rémy Di Gregorio (Astana) had a second dig off the front. He took the maximum points on the line, whilst I pick up second, gaining 17 points to my total.
43km: With the sprint out the way, we decided to take the pressure of the chase again. Lars Bak attacked, with the aim of KoM points in his sights as well.
66km: Leopard took control, and surprisingly gave Lars a lot of room of the front.
72km: The pace of the peleton was quite comfortable as we passed the halfway mark, but for some it was too much. First to drop back was J.J. Haedo (SaxoBank), so that was one less sprinter to worry about at the finish.
95km: Approaching the last 40km of the stage, Lars had built up a nice lead of 4'23", eating up all the KoM points in the process. On the penultimate climb, French national champion Jérôme Pineau (QuickStep) attacked, setting a high pace in chase of Lars.
102km: As the peleton's pace was upped, the main pack began to split. Amazingly, Vincenzo Nibali (Liquigas) and Igor Antón (Euskatel) were again caught out, and could see their Tour de France chances slipping through their fingers with every pedal turn.
123km: As we approached the final 20km, it was clear that the breakaway was going to stay clear, and it would be a miracle if it was going to be caught. With that in mind, Simon Gerrans (Sky) and Nick Nuyens (SaxoBank) attacked, hoping that they could close down the 2 escapees out front.
127km: On the final climb of the day, Pineau dropped Lars. The pace was just too high, and now he was riding for 2nd place on the stage.
134km: As the finish neared, the fight would be for 5th place at the finish. But would not be a part of it! The TV cameras missed a huge crash that took down nearly all of the peleton. The peleton split, and all the sprinters were either brought down or held up. The biggest casualty of it all would be Bradley Wiggins, lossing over 3 minutes to his GC rivals at the finish.
144km: Back at the finish, Pineau took a great victory. It was a fine ride from the Frenchman, and a fantastic day for the all the French fans. Lars finished 3rd, losing out in a sprint to Nuyens. I finished with the main peleton, 3'13" after Pineau.

Le Tour takes it's first injury victims
The Tour de France had its first withdrawals today, following the big crash on the Stage 10 to Carmaux.
Frenchman Anthony Charteau suffered a sprained wrist, and the Europcar rider will be out until mid - August, whilst his compatriot, FDJ's Pierrick Fédrigo suffered fractured ribs and will return towards the beginning of September.
All the other riders involved in the crash finished the stage into Carmaux, and all look set to start Stage 11 to Lavaur tomorrow.

13th July 2011 - Le Tour de France
(Blaye-les-Mines - Lavaur)
It's the final hurrah for the sprinters before we head into the Pyrénées. With terrain very similar to yesterday's stage, again it could be a toss up between the breakaway and the sprinters.
For me, it is all about the win! I have gone 10 stages without a win, and I am getting frustrated. Thank god for my great performance in the Intermediate Sprints. Without them, I would definitely be more than 18 points adrift of Boasson Hagen in the race for the Maillot Vert.
11km: A break of 4 riders got away at the start of the stage, and looked very serious about wanting to stay away.
18km: However, as the group out front rose to 11 riders, that was far too many for my liking. Lars hit the front, with Bert and Danny, and the chase back began.
30km: Everything was quickly brought back, so as we climbed to the KoM sprint, we took full advantage. Bak attacked, taking the 2 points on offer, and moving up to 2nd in the Mountains Classification.
57km: We didn't want another else getting away, and having a repeat of the previous stage, so I made sure the guys kept the pace high at the front. Sadly for the other riders, just like yesterday, the peleton split.
81km: The team did a superb job keeping everything together, and as the heaven's opened, I took the maximum 20 points at the Intermediate Sprint, with Boasson Hagen only coming across in 8th place. The gap in the battle for the Maillot Vert was down to 5 points...
92km: With the sun shining down again, the attacks were allowed to happen. Only Richie Porte (SaxoBank) and Vasil Kiryienka (Movistar) got away from the peleton, as Garmin took over the control.
136km: The break only got a gap of 2'05" over the main group before the pace was upped. Garmin and Rabobank were clearly very motivated for the stage, and there was not a chance of this break staying clear.
152km: Everything was brought back together with around 7km left, and we hit the front. Looking ahead, the rain clouds were gathering on the horizon, it was going to be a wet finish today.
156km: The lead out went perfectly, until we hit the final 1km. Boasson Hagen shot out from nowhere, and opened up a huge gap on us all! It was if we were all stuck to the tarmac...
157km: And the Maillot Vert wins! Is there any stopping the Norwegian sprinting machine? I finished a close 3rd, just being edged out by Feillu on the line.

The hope is that I can keep up the high points in the Intermediates, and hope Boasson Hagen burns out after the Pyrenees. He is getting close to 60 race days and Cav is still in the 40s...
