The month of August was a very busy month with one rider really dominating everywhere he starts. Damiano Cunego won no more as 4 classics this month. Strangely enough, the rider of the month award goes to Tom Boonen who was the best in two UWT-races: the Eneco Tour and the Vattenfall Cyclassics.
1 | Philippe Gilbert | Omega Pharma - Lotto | 2791 | 2 | Cadel Evans | BMC Racing Team | 2655 | 3 | Joaquim Rodriguez | Katusha Team | 2289 | 4 | Igor Anton | Euskaltel - Euskadi | 1939 | 5 | Thor Hushovd | Team Garmin - Cervelo | 1911 | 6 | Ivan Basso | Liquigas - Cannondale | 1848 | 7 | Fabian Cancellara | Leopard Trek | 1840 | 8 | Damiano Cunego | Lampre - ISD | 1753 | 9 | Tyler Farrar | Team Garmin - Cervelo | 1636 | 10 | Tom Boonen | Quick-Step Cycling Team | 1545 | 11 | Alberto Contador | Saxo Bank SunGard | 1532 | 12 | Roman Kreuziger | Pro Team Astana | 1368 | 13 | Ryder Hesjedal | Team Garmin - Cervelo | 1305 | 14 | Andy Schleck | Leopard Trek | 1234 | 15 | Fränk Schleck | Leopard Trek | 1214 | 16 | Alessandro Petacchi | Lampre - ISD | 1181 | 17 | Stefano Garzelli | Acque e Sapone | 1139 | 18 | Sylvain Chavanel | Quick-Step Cycling Team | 1123 | 19 | Alexandre Vinokourov | Pro Team Astana | 1064 | 20 | Denis Menchov | Geox - TMC | 1007 |
Philippe Gilbert takes over the lead in the CQ-ranking again from Cadel Evans after some good results in the UWT one day classics. We have again a rider in the top 20 as Menchov has already earned some points during the Vuelta. He will make a bigger jump after the Vuelta.
1 | WT | Team Garmin - Cervelo | 6609 | 2 | WT | Leopard Trek | 6137 | 3 | WT | Katusha Team | 4996 | 4 | WT | BMC Racing Team | 4808 | 5 | WT | Lampre - ISD | 4766 | 6 | WT | Omega Pharma - Lotto | 4705 | 7 | WT | Sky ProCycling | 4335 | 8 | WT | Quick-Step Cycling Team | 4246 | 9 | WT | Pro Team Astana | 4210 | 10 | WT | Saxo Bank SunGard | 4043 | 11 | CT | Geox - TMC | 3865 | 12 | WT | Euskaltel Euskadi | 3714 | 13 | WT | Liquigas - Cannondale | 3703 | 14 | WT | Team Radioshack | 3449 | 15 | WT | HTC - Highroad | 3436 | 16 | WT | Rabobank Cycling Team | 3304 | 17 | CT | Landbouwkrediet | 3008 | 18 | WT | Vacansoleil - DCM Pro Cycling Team | 2465 | 19 | WT | Movistar Team | 2167 | 20 | CT | Skil - Shimano | 2097 |
Garmin and Leopard are clearly from another level on this rankings. They have 1000 points more as the 3rd and will fight for the best team. Geox had a good month and moved up to 11th. Maybe we can get in the top 10 after the Vuelta.

Not that much races this month although the Vuelta is still going on. The most important races this month are the World Championships, held this year in the Danish Capital Copenhague.

Thanks tsmoha! I keep trying . I won't be able to sign Cunego as I already signed 7 new riders for next year, announced in July.
Most riders have announced the teams were the will ride next year. This overview will show the most important team changes.
Borut Bozic | | Vacansoleil - DCM Pro Cycling Team | Veranda's Willems - Accent | Niki Terpstra | | Quick-Step Cycling team | Vacansoleil - DCM Pro Cycling Team | Egor Silin | | Katusha Team | Team Osterhys - Ridley | Daniele Bennati | | Leopard Trek | Team Type 1 | Marcus Burghardt | | BMC Racing Team | Team SpiderTech | Jean-Christophe Peraud | | AG2R La Mondiale | Team Radioshack | Micheal Matthews | | Rabobank Cycling Team | Team Concordia Forsikring | Prezemyslaw Niemic | | Lampre - ISD | Sky ProCycling | Lars Boom | | Rabobank Cycling Team | Saxo Bank Sungard | Danilo Di Luca | | Katusha Team | Saur - Sojasun | Francisco Jose Ventoso | | Movistar Team | Saur - Sojasun | Sergio Pardilla | | Movistar Team | Rabobank Continental Team | Peter Velits | | HTC - Highroad | Pro Team Astana | Paul martens | | Rabobank Cycling Team | Pro Team Astana | Steven Kruiswijk | | Rabobank Cycling Team | Pro Team Astana | Heinrich Haussler | | Team Garmin - Cervelo | Pro Team Astana | Thomas De Gendt | | Vacansoleil - DCM Pro Cycling Team | Pro Team Astana | Sylwester Smyd | | Liquigas - Cannondale | PSk Whirlpool - Authur | Rui Costa | | Movistar Team | Onda | Tiago Machado | | Team Radioshack | Onda | Dries Devenyns | | Quick-Step Cycling team | Omega Pharma - Lotto | Sep Vanmarcke | | Team Garmin - Cervelo | Omega Pharma - Lotto | Paulo Tiralongo | | Pro Team Astana | Liquigas - Cannondale | Jan Bakelandts | | Omega Pharma - Lotto | Landbouwkrediet | Matteo Carrara | | Vacansoleil - DCM Pro Cycling Team | Lampre - ISD | Frederik Kessiakoff | | Pro Team Astana | Glud & Marstrand - LRO | David Lopez | | Movistar Team | Euskaltel - Euskadi | Vladimir Gusev | | Katusha Team | Cycling Team De Rijke | Matthias Fränk | | BMC Racing Team | Colombia es Pasion - Cafe de Colombia | Allan Davis | | Pro Team Astana | Colnago - CSF Inox | Grega Bole | | Lampre - ISD | Christina Watches - Onfone | Marco Marcato | | Vacansoleil - DCM Pro Cycling Team | Acqua e Sapone |
Some strange decisions by sprinters as Bozic, Bennati and Davis to move to the Continental Tour. Other notable change is Astana. They let Davis and Kreuziger go and replace them with some strong young riders like Velits and Kruiswijk. Sylwester Smyd will leave Liquigas to ride for himself with PSk but is replaced by Tiralongo.
2 very strong riders haven't announced yet where they will ride next season. Horner is old enough to retire but no announcement has been made yet. Scarponi probably has some options to look at before he decides his future.

Settimana Lombarda: Stage 3
Profile:
The next stage in the Lombarda is again flat. It's probably the last chance for the sprinters so we will probably see mass sprint again.
The escapees get caught right after the 5 km banner due to chasing by Team Type 1, Katusha and Acque e Sapone. We wanted to make a lead out for Pelucchi but he and Florencio got blocked so Felline is again our sprinter.
Galimzyanov started his sprint early and is already in the lead before the flamme rouge. Fellini is in the wheel of Lighthart who followed a Liquigas lead out train for Guarnieri.
It was too early for Galimzyanov as he lost all his speed in the last metres. He got passed by Guarniere who only came out of the wheel of Finetto in the last km and took the victory. Lighthart is 2nd and Finetto 3rd. Felline finishes in the top 10 again on a 8th spot.

Vuelta a Espana: Stage 12
Ponteareas - Pontevedra 159.5 km
Between the mountains, one easier stage is raced. The route isn't really hard but some hills will probably prevent a mass sprint. This is the perfect stage for a succesfull breakaway.
Geox squad:
8 riders form today's break of the day. We have 2 rider with De La Fuente, for KoM-points and Valls, for the stage win. Other riders at the front are Hoste (Katusha), Burghardt (BMC), Pineau (Quick-Step), Majka (SaxoBank), Irizar (Radioshack) and Montaguti (AG2R).
The peloton shows no intention to chase so the escapees will fight for the win. De La Fuente pulled hard on the hills and dropped 3 riders. Montaguti and Irizar would come back in the descent but Majka will never connect again.
De La Fuente was in the break to take KoM-points and he did just that. He falls back after the 2nd mountain-sprint knowing he still needs to attack a lot.
Irizar is the first of the escapees to make a move. He was already dropped and isn't a strong sprinter so he tries his luck from a bit further out. He will create a 20" gap on his chasers.
Valls uses the last small and steep hill to make the jump from the chasers past Irizar. He can't get away more as 15" but gives everything trying to stay away.
Unsuccesfull as Hoste pulls him back in with 3 km to go. He spend all his energy in the attack so a good sprint will be impossible.
The sprint is easily won by Hoste. The biggest win of his career after a lot of podium places (3X 2nd in the RvV). Burghardt is 2nd and Pineau 3rd. Valls was still strong enough to take 4th. The pack crosses the line 16' later.

Good job by Valls. He tried but couldn't stay away. It's too late to take about another tactic but 4th is still okay.

It looks like he can do it
Again a nice stage for Geox.. 4th behind such prominent names like Burghardt, Hoste and Pineau is not bad!

Good stage. De La Fuente will need to attack a lot, really, to get the KOM jersey. |

Thanks, the 2nd place is already secured as Menchov is 4' in front of Mosquera. The KoM-jersey will be very tough but De La Fuente will keep attacking.
Settimana Lombarda: Stage 4
Profile:
The first of 3 hilly stages that will decide the overal here. The small hills certainly suit Felline and Florencio and they will do their best to fight for the win.
The early breakaway consisted out of 12 riders. Some notable riders who already lost time are in there. Anza (Vacansoleil), Gasparotto (Astana), Ovemchkin (Katusha), Stybar (Quick-Step) and Ulissi (Lampre) are all good punchers.
Three riders go in the chase around halfway the stage. Dall'Antonio (Liquigas), Rebellin (Miche) and Engels (Quick-Step) also have lost already lost some time earlier.
Their gap stays around 4' for whole the day but closing the gap looks impossible. We send some riders to the front to make sure the gap never grows over 4'.
The hills have made some changes at the front. The trio has closed the front and some others have dropped back. 13 riders start the final hill in the hope for a stage win.
Engels and Rebellin were clearly the strongest. They had a close sprint for the win closely won by Rebellin. Gasparotto sprints to 3rd.
Felline and Florencio come over the line 3' later in a group of 15 riders, all favourites. Carrara wins the sprint but no gaps are made.

No big changes in the GC. The next stages will be more decisive.

Vuelta a Espana: Stage 12
Sarria - Ponferrada 149.7 km
A mountain stage but the roads flat out nearing the finish. That means that we probably won't see any contenders attacking today. Today is the perfect day for a succesfull breakaway.
Geox squad:
De La Fuente got in today's breakaway and since none of his companions sprinted for it, he could take the first couple of KoM-sprints.
Sastre attacks on the first real climb of the day. He crashed early and lost all his inspirations for a good GC but maybe he can go for a stage win as in the Giro.
A 4 men leading group forms around De La Fuente and Sastre on the hardest climb of the day. Machado and Jufre attacked a bit after Sastre, just as Rohregger who will join this group a little later.
The peloton crosses the highest point of the day in a group of 55 riders. Sky wanted to chase for Hagen but he got dropped on the climb so the chase is stopped.
The next climb is too much for De La Fuente. He has already taken a lot of KoM-points today so it's not that bad. We still have Sastre in the front group.
A surprising move from Anton on that climb. He attacks and Herrada, Velits, Rodriguez and Mosquera follow. Menchov still has some teammates to help him on the flat parts so he stays around them.
The 4 escapees have crossed the final climb together and they still have a nice gap to the rest. They will sprint for the win today.

Frank and Anton attacked again on the last climb and could get away but the chase from Valls, Duarte and Cobo is too much on the flat part. They are quickly back in the pack.

The sprint for the win was one between sterving swans. It was Jufre who came out on top and takes the biggest win of his career. Rohregger 2nd and Sastre can be happy with 3rd as he had no chance in the sprint.
Herrada wins the sprint from the favourites group some minutes later. One rider missing here is Rodriguez who clearly feels that he is riding his 3rd GT this year.
Sorry but I forgot to export so no results today. They will again be with the next stage. I also excuse for the weak report but it was already some days ago that i played the stage. Sorry
