Provisionally 52.250km for Dekker!
No record but comendable effort. The coverage however was utter f*cking sh*t! No accurate clock to even gauge the time left or passed. No distance data. F*cking shambles and the organisers really should be completely embarassed.
The Eurosport commentators did a decent job under the circumstances but oh lord that coverage was utter bollocks

Revised down to 52,221km but still under UCI review because this whole thing is a big f*cking joke of an attempt (not Dekkers fault though)

Yes the coverage was piss poor.
I only looked at the lap times of the ipad which the coach was holding. That at least gave an idication. 17,5 laps were too slow. In the beginning he was on schedule with 17.0
And he didn;t collapse as bad as Dennis in the final 10 minutes, Dekker was still riding between 17,2 and 17,6.
He just missed it by some 200m... A shame But this guy should be back at a pro conti team at least |

Didn't like that he went to altitude for this attempt but there is no rule against it, didn't think he would run it as close so it was a big effort.
Cant agree that he should be back at Pro Conti, Conti maybe but Pro Conti is a stretch given he has shown nothing since his ban

If you can ride 52,2, even if at an altitude track, you're way better than 90% of the conti and pro-conti riders.
Hell, I think only about 25/30 pro's could do more than 52km in a world hour attempt |

It was only a matter of time before Aguascalientes was used for an Hour record attempt, given the amount of World Records that were broken the first time it was used for a Track World Cup last year.
Lack of track technique may well have cost Dekker as he wasn't particularly tight on the corners, but Dennis would have gone a lot further had he been in Aguascalientes, so I'm glad that he still holds the record.

I think he might of broken 50 at sea level but it would have been touch and go, altitude has a huge effect as shown with last years worlds where 7 kilo riders broke the previous world record on that track, that's the reason Dekker went there as like before his ban he was just looking to gain an advantage. Brandle would have beaten Dennis's current record there, Bobridge too so it scary to think what Dennis would do and dare I say Wiggins at altitude. There are plenty of studies out there showing how much of an advantage doing something like this is at a track like that, Boardman 49 at sea level would of been 52-53 there.
I just don't think Dekker is that good
I just wanted to say I don't wish the guy any ill will and hope he gets to race his bike as clearly that's why he attempted this but I just don't think he is at the level to be doing that at the higher end of the sport.

I think Dekker actually broke the record with all the extra metres he was doing
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

True, but the history of the world hour record is the top 3 guys doing it. Look at the list of holders since Merckx and before they changed the rule back, causing all these attempts:
Merckx
Moser
Obree
Boardman
Rominger
Indurain
Sosenka (doped to all hell and with the Merckx-tech rules)
To me it won't truly be the world hour record until Cancellara or Martin sets it. That's the class of riders we should be talking about. |

Ill be damned if only 25 pros could match that time on an altitude track... |

In the ever continuing run of Hour World news and attempts a very interesting one pops up tomorrow. Sarah Storey will be tackling an hour. Very interesting for a whole number of reasons i'm gonne pick out the comparision between her time and Voigts time.
She's an incredibly talented track rider and should smash the old Womens record of 46.065km (i think that's the old record not entirely sure). Could be a huge moment for para-cycling if she does so.

Loubet is having a good season so far. Great to see Sepulveda getting his first win, really like him.
Also Sarah Story fell short of the Hour Record today. Slightly surprised but it was still a good effort.

Really happy to see him finding these legs again. Always saddens me when a big talent collapses like that.
Seems it was good for him to go back to smal races and start over and this time around he seems much more mature and ready for some of the bigger races, will be interesting how he handles Amstel!

Dumoulin. Strong as usual in the smaller French races. There's a vid of the race too on procyclingstats, for those interested.
