10th July 2011 - Le Tour de France
(Issoire - Saint-Flour)
Stage 9 is all about the climbers. Six classified climbs, plus a small raise to the finish in Saint-Flour.
The position of the Intermediate Sprint takes me out of the stage complete, so focus from the off will be on Tejay and Tony, and helping push on in the GC battle.
11km: Attack by four riders kicked off today's stage. With the prospect of a high number of KoM points available, we sent Lars out to try and recapture the jersey.
23km: A number of teams set themselves up at the front of peleton, and at first, there was a worry that the break would be brought back. However, the chase soon subsided, and the escapees grew to 6 riders and opened up a healthy lead.
35km: On the climb to the first KoM Sprint, the lead was over 4'55", but that would not stop the Belgian Champion Nick Nuyens attacking in an attempt to bridge the gap.
94km: In the battle for the KoM jersey, two riders looked the strongest. Cyril Gautier (Europcar) and Thibaut Pinot (FDJ) attacked hard at every sprint, with Pinot ultimately coming out on top in the fight come the end of the stage.
113km: With the climbs coming thick and fast, Lars and Allan Davis (Astana) were the first to crack, dropping off the back of the other breakaway riders.
128km: With all the riders in the break over 10'00" down on GC, they were given a lot of freedom on the route. The easy pace of the peleton gave the French Television Broadcasters a chance to show off the impressive French scenery.
130km: A huge shock for the fans as the Giro d'Italia winnder Cadel Evans is dropped by the peleton. Clearly, he had not recovered from a difficult Giro, and will look to limit his losses ahead of tomorrow's rest day.
154km: Approaching the final KoM climb, Sylvain Chavanel attacked, hoping to do enough to hold onto the jersey for another stage. However, he could not bridge the gap, and did not pick up any more points.
188km: Back at the front, Pinot went off on his own. With 12km remaining, it was going to be tought task to hold on.
198km: 10km later, and Pinot was still out at the front, but Nuyens and Jonathan Hivert (Saur - Sojasun) were closing in fast...
199km: As the sprint began, it was Pinot versus Nuyens. Who would be the strongest on the finish line...
200km: And Pinot holds on! Great win for the young Frenchman in Saint-Flour. The GC riders come home 1'16" behind, and I finished in the grupetto.

Garmin told to change Jersey
As the Tour de France heads into the first rest day, the UCI have demanded that Garmin - Cervélo change the National Champion Jersey of the Dutch rider Martijn Maaskant.
There has been a lot of talk within the peleton that jersey looks very similiar to the British National Champion jersey, worn by Mark Cavendish, in both colours and design, and it seems that A.S.O have complained about the confusion distinguishing between the two during the stages.
Garmin are believed to have accepted the demands of the UCI and will have a new jersey on show for Stage 10 from Aurillac to Carmaux.

might be nationalism talking but why has the British champion jersey the colors of the dutch flag?
but then I realized that normally dutch champions has a red-white-blue isn't a stripe but fully covered (if somebody can understand what I mean)

From what I understand, because the British Flag is the Union Flag , I think it would make a very complicated/ugly shirt to have the full flag on there, so under the UCI licence/ruling, the British National Champion Jersey is the Red-White-Blue stripes on a white jersey. I presume that when the national champion jerseys were being decided, the Dutch jersey would full covered in the tri-colour to avoid any confusion.
For some reason, the Dutch jersey in the PCMDaily db is similar to the British jersey, but I have been able to find a Tri-Colour version in the shirt database

11th July 2011 - Le Tour de France
(Rest Day 1)
After nine tough stages to start the 2011 Tour de France, we finally have the first rest day before we head to the Pyrénées.
With no racing today, I thought I would give you a run down of the HTC - Highroad team on the General Classification, as well as showing how all the Tour de France contenders are performing in the GC battle.
But before I do that, I will show you one of my favourite shots of the Tour so far, taken during the last stage to Saint-Flour.

Well the only thing that is keeping Cav in there, are the Intermediate Sprints. I have won all the bunch sprints when it comes to those, and with 2 very winnable stages next, all could change very quickly. That's the plan anyway

Team GB World Championships pre-selection announced

The final team selections will be made in 12th September.

Thanks rogvi. I think the problem with the jersey is that someone has tried to created something different with the Dutch jersey instead of the standard tri-colour.
Next stages should be up tomorrow

Well the next two stages are big stages! After the next 2 stages, there will be only 1 flat sprint stage before Paris...
