To chase the breakaway, it's known that rider good in the time trial are good in chasing |

Not necessarily. I wouldn't rely on Contador to chase a breakaway containing strong riders. However, put a guy like Boonen to pull and watch them suffer.

Because De Gendt was a northern classics specialist in PCM09.
All clear now.

Looks like they could make it actually. The domestiques are gone.
Go Viviani!

Great win for Cummings. Best stage of the Vuelta so far, easily.

Nice job by Cummings. Vibiani blew a gasquet I guess.

Too bad De Gendt didn't win. Great attack by Cummings, though! |

I wouldn't say that. They just weren't strong enough. Stages through Galicia are always hilly and hard to control, even this one which wasn't particularly hard (nor easy). The fact that no one, bar that bizarre moment where Lotto forgot that Greipel is in his hotel in Antwerp now, helped them didn't help.

Havent been online for almost two weeks, so stressed out.
Im not the type of guy who claims " What did i say" .. But what did i say ? Read my vuelta expectations blog. I know we havent hit the big mountains yet.
But damn its the best Vuelta maybe ever ? Fireworks, constantly mano-o-mano (captain vs captain), awesome route, a much needed and demanded entertainment.
A couple of points :
Yes Froome is tired, but i did say Contador would eat them, even though he hasnt reached his former level. Like i said to my favourite poster in here (aquarius) i would bet my whole house and life on contador beating sky. I will stand by this statement also in next years TDF.
To the formerly much heated Gesink vs De Gendt discussion, once again im very pleased to see that Gesink is 1.000 times better than De Gendt. And that i was right in the comparison of those two was very ridicoulus. I did say i didnt even see him as a top 10-20 candidate, when all the best was there. And i was right.
Ofc Gesink is not up there with the very best, but it is well deserved that he gets some kind of success and ends in top 5. Good job Gesink (im not a fan at all)
Furthermore we did notice something coming up with Valverde, after his win in the TDF he really has reached his old level. I may even think he is climbing better than ever. Or atleast he is on the level where he matched armstrong 1-2 times
He is one of the biggest personalities and stars in the peloton, and it pleases me and my big cycling heart so much to see him getting this much success.
In Contadors msot recent Vuelta win, i remember valverde to be the only one following him on the climbs, so to see him back there is absolute amazing.
The first two weeks of the Vuelta is all about what cycling really is about.
And Rodriguez? Well it may seems that he has got more stamina and fatigue than ever in the climbs. He is the true sunshine story about the domestique riding his own chance, and reaching the very elite.
A long post, but i have been absent for two weeks, sorry for that
Lets just enjoy this amazing race.
I hope that both Rodriguez and Valverde can keep the high level, but as always im pretty sure both of them are gonna have their usual off day.
Lets see how it plays out.
Oh btw Wiggins is gonna get killed next year by the inferno of the spanish armada.
Cant wait for that to happen, like i did say through the whole TDF.
When Froome is totally fresh and at his best, im still 100 percent Contador is gonna beat him. It took Valverde a whole years of racing before reaching his former level. Contador has done it in 3 weeks of racing.
Imagine how demonstrative he will be at next years TDF.
Venga Venga Venga ! |

The next 3 days will make much clear about the real Vuelta.
Rodriguez could still falter on the longer climbs no matter how good he looked on those in the Giro or how good he looks on the short climbs until now.
Don't forget last year he started the Vuelta really well, also after a good giro, and then completely faltered..
I agree he looks better than ever. But Contador will win regardless if Rodriguez will falter or not. Because I think on the longer mountains, Contador will simply be too strong to follow. |

I agree 100 percent. That was also my predictions and expectations before the Vuelta started. And i am gonna be very pleased to see Contador win.
Gonna be exciting to see whether Froome still has something on the long climbs. |

As regards to Gesink, he seems to get stronger. The more climbs become a sustained effort over a longer period, the better he'll do. So far we only had short steep climbs, and in the ITT a longer unsteep one. Both are not really good for him anyway.
Normally the first four will remain stronger. But as I said, I still have doubts about Rodriguez. And I definitely have doubts about Froome (fatigue) and Valverde (fatigue, also rode full tour). I don't have doubts about Contador though. I think he'll just get stronger. |

Erm, except that De Gendt had a shitty preparation and is nowhere near his Giro form. You cannot compare them unless they are both in top form. You could also say that De Gendt was right behind Purito in the Giro, and Gesink is further behind - does that make De Gendt 'win' the competition?
Wait and see on the long term. Premature statements are worthless.
