Well. Sanchez didn`t lose time in his crash, Martin did a lot. Plus I never planned to go for the overall with him. Fuglsang was the only leader as Martin just has a ~70 fitness. Was planned as luxury domestique here.

Luckily the export function worked again in the time trial. Wink

Paris - Nice Stage 6
Rognes - Aix-en-Provence

27km time trialing with a short hill in the 2nd half should take care for some deciding time gaps.
Many close decisions have to be made today. Who will win the stage? Martin and Cancellara definitely the strongest against the clock but Sanchez and Kreuziger might want to challenge them.
Also the fight for the podium is between 14 riders. Kreuziger has a small advance. But Martin might be able to close the gap. Sanchez then is the big favourite for the last spot but maybe he can also overtake the Czech?
The rest of the 14 might fight for the last top5 and top 10 spots with Van Garderen and Taaramae being the next best in time trials.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/PN-6-2.jpg
But we start with another stage win challenger. Iván Gutiérrez often proved his strength against the clock and also today he sets a new best time. With +6min he won`t have any big influence in the GC fight.
37'24

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/PN-6-3.jpg
Also Frantisek Rabon improved in a good stage racer as long as he don`t have to climb. He beats the former best time by 15s.
37'09

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/PN-6-4.jpg
Then the best time trialist at the moment starts. Fabian Cancellara rides a very calm but powerful race today and destroys the former times.
36'33

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/PN-6-5.jpg
Now the fight for the podium. Van Garderen is the first with some chances. He ends as provisional 5th at the moment.
37'35

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/PN-6-6.jpg
Also Taaramae can`t set a very good time here and finishes as 6th at the moment 8s behind Van Garderen.
37'43

Meanwhile the big 3 Sanchez, Martin and Kreuziger all arrived at the intermediate point.
It`s a first sign of the possible end result.
1Tony Martin16'12''
2Fabian Cancellara+17''
3Roman Kreuziger+35''
4Luis Leon Sanchez+39''
5Frantisek Rabon+41''

At the moment Kreuziger still leads the race. But Martin already stole 35 of 48s and we are just at half time. LL Sanchez is on a good way to take a podium here.

So here starts the real fight for the podium. On the last hill things can change again.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/PN-6-7.jpg
LL Sanchez is the first, who reaches the climb. He still looks really powerful here and he feels Taaramae ahead of him.
At the intermediate still 22s behind Cancellara, he sets a new best time in the finish by 9s.
1Luis Leon Sanchez36'24''
2Fabian Cancellara+9''
3Frantisek Rabon+45''
4Iván Gutiérrez+1'00''
5Mikhail Ignatiev+1'01''

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/PN-6-8.jpg
Martin gained some time on Cancellara and the rest but Sanchez was much faster than everybody else on the climbing part. Nevertheless Martin sets the new best time in the finish and will probably win the stage but is his time good enough to get yellow?
1Tony Martin36'04''
2Luis Leon Sanchez+20''
3Fabian Cancellara+29''
4Frantisek Rabon+1'05''
5Iván Gutiérrez+1'20''

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/PN-6-9.jpg
Last but not least Roman Kreuziger. At the intermediate still faster than Sanchez, who had a great finish and just 13s ahead of the provisional overall. Due to his better climbing skills he won`t lose as much as on the flat against Martin. But are 13s enough against the strong German today?
1Tony Martin36'04
2Luis León Sánchez+ 20
3Fabian Cancellara+ 29
4Roman Kreuziger+ 49
5Frantisek Rabon+ 1'05

No. It`s not. Tony Martin wins the overall lead decision by just 1 tiny second and will wear the yellow tomorrow. Also Sanchez gained 29s on him today, so that the first 3 are much closer together now and have a nice advance to the rest, where Van Garderen and Taaramae grabbed the last top5 places.
And nice to see the two French riders Joly on a great 7th and Gautier as 9th, while Masciarelli and Ricco are the big losers of this time trial and have to attack now to get back into the top10.

Great ITT, beating Cancellara is not nothing

Great ITT. All is open for the GC, only 1 point between Martin and Kreuziger is thrilling, but LLS can be the surprise!

Nice result for Sanchez and only 22s off the paceSmile

Pellizotti2
Excellent result in the timetrial. Podium more or less secured now.

Very nice TT with LLS, I guess the 7th stage is quite mountainious?

roturn wrote:
Well. Sanchez didn`t lose time in his crash, Martin did a lot. Plus I never planned to go for the overall with him. Fuglsang was the only leader as Martin just has a ~70 fitness. Was planned as luxury domestique here.

Missed both of these facts before I wrote my last comment, I'm sorry for that. Embarassed

Thanks all.
I was pretty much surprised that Sanchez had the best finish time beatin Cancellara. Maybe the luck to have a +5 in such a time trial was the key. Wink
@baia: I hope so, but the only mountain rated stage and another hilly stage is still coming. Without having played the last stages I guess Kreuziger might be able to overtake Martin again although both have some descents in the end again.
But beforehead the next Tirreno stage:

Tirreno - Adriatico Stage 3
Terranuova Bracciolini - Perugia
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/Tirreno-3-1.jpg
The stage is rated as flat but with all the small hills in the end there might be some splits if the pace is high enough. So next to the pure sprinters Cavendish or Greipel especially the better puncheurs like Haussler, Ginanni, Bole, Gavazzi or yesterdays winner Modolo must be names as stage favourites.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/Tirreno-3-2.jpg
It took almost 60km until the first group created a gap. It`s Garmin rider Cameron Meyer and Rabobank`s Oscar Freire. Both already lost time in the previous 2 stages, so not a danger for overall leader Evans.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/Tirreno-3-3.jpg
A bigger danger is Diego Ulissi, who attacks some kilometers later to join the duo. As 16th with just 14s back Movistar must be careful with the young Italian.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/Tirreno-3-4.jpg
So they send half their squad to the front and accelerate a bit. No other team is supporting them today.
An interesting fact of the earlier morning was that Phillipe Gilbert was chasing the first breakaway attempts down, probably for Cavendish, who is hoping for a sprint finish today.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/Tirreno-3-5.jpg
Once again bad news for our team. Again a crash. Again a leader. It`s Heinrich Haussler, who lost concentration for some seconds and met the asphalt. Hopefully he is alright.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/Tirreno-3-6.jpg
Climbing the only KoM rated hill of the day it`s again Sky`s Flecha with a strong attack joined by Astana`s Jufre.
Both teams have good bets for today in Boasson Hagen, Rojas or Gasparotto.
Meyer is caught now but the other two are still trying to avoid the fusion.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/Tirreno-3-7.jpg
Also due to this attack the peloton got stretched a lot. Riders like Cavendish are pretty far behind, while Haussler is somewhere in the middle with the overall contenders being in the first rows including Fuglsang.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/Tirreno-3-8.jpg
A small group of 17 riders got a gap to the rest of the peloton. With Fuglsang and surprisingly also Taylor Phinney we have still two riders here. Haussler is in the next group together with Kreder, Bobridge and Martin.
Biggest GC missings are the Colnago duo Mollema and Pozzovivo, who are doing the pace in the next group and Gilbert. All other favourites are in this group here.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/Tirreno-3-9.jpg
With 3km to go Flecha, Ulissi and Jufre are still having a small advance to the regrouped peloton now.
As some riders are attacking now Fuglsang and Haussler are trying to get their gaps for the upcoming sprint, while most other sprinters are still waiting.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_Mar/Tirreno-3-10.jpg
And they did better. The long uphill sprint was way too hard if you are too early in the wind. So it`s Ginanni with a nice win ahead of Modolo and Sagan. Haussler felt back on the 8th with Fuglsang as 8th ahead of a surprisingly strong Cavendish in the end.
After all the action 160 riders passed the line in the same time and the GC decision will be made on the next more difficult stages.

Very nice 8th with Fuglsang, if his form stays this way, he is one of the Tirreno favourites for me.

Haussler did well to get 6th despite his mis-hapSmile

I don't know how often Garmin crashed this year (and last year, if I remember right) Rolling Eyes Still, two Top-10's is not bad and that's good news for upcoming, tough stage!

Maybe it's time for some extra wheels on their bikes? Pfft

One thing Garmin riders can do very well is to fall down....Grin
Good result...lets see if Fuglsang can improve his place...

Good result, LLS has still chances to win P-N and Fuglsang is probably feeling good, so he is certainly a man to watch Wink

Thanks for all the comments. Was pretty busy with other stuff like Man Game reports, university and friends. So no time to play or report in the last week.
So here the next one.

Really hope Fuglsang can do well in Tirreno but his hill stat is too low to win the race imo.
And the crashes are really annoying. But it`s the typical spring crashes from me. Hopefully it will be like in the last seasons, where I had luck from April-October. Wink

Also I hope everyone can see this report. Photobucket seems to be offline at the moment, so I uploaded the pics at imageshack again.

Paris - Nice Stage 7
Brignoles Biot - Sophia Antipolis
img560.imageshack.us/img560/843/pn71.jpg
Surely one of the hardest stages in this edition. It`s the only "mountain" stage, although the hardest climb is pretty far from the finish.
But still some riders need to attack to improve in the rankings.

img834.imageshack.us/img834/7420/pn72.jpg
A big group around Willems (Omega), Gerrans (Sky), Ricci Bitti (Farnese Vini), Niermann (Rabobank), Dumoulin (Cofidis) or Cazaux (Euskaltel) attacked out of the peloton.

img827.imageshack.us/img827/4351/pn73.jpg
Garmin and Liquigas share the work in the peloton. Also Kreuziger is directly behind them to control the race in the hope to get the lead today.

img85.imageshack.us/img85/477/pn74.jpg
On the long climb the pace making was successful as the group is already caught.

img194.imageshack.us/img194/6336/pn75.jpg
KoM leader Chris Anker Sörensen attacks after the long climb.

img265.imageshack.us/img265/4351/pn76.jpg
Most Garmin riders are doing the work now as LL Sanchez wants to gain time on the others today. But nevertheless Sörensen`s gap becomes even bigger.

img36.imageshack.us/img36/8982/pn77.jpg
Some time later Taaramae attacks. He is surely the bigger threat for the overall.

img528.imageshack.us/img528/4944/pn78.jpg
So Kreuziger immediately goes after him and puts lots of pressure on Sanchez and Martin now.

img27.imageshack.us/img27/433/pn79.jpg
Still Garmin is doing most work alone. Other teams do just a tiny amount.

img23.imageshack.us/img23/125/pn710.jpg
This move was far too dangerous. So more riders join the group.
It`s now Kreuziger, Martin, Sanchez, Sörensen, Taaramae, Cataldo and Vorganov.
Big names missing are the two HTC riders Ricco and Van Garderen as also Joly, Gautier and Anton.

img59.imageshack.us/img59/3282/pn711.jpg
Kreuziger accelerates another time. Just Cataldo is able to follow him this time with the other riders falling back. But also the peloton is coming back slowly.

img522.imageshack.us/img522/4570/pn712.jpg
And in the final sprint it`s Ricco, who jumps out of the peloton to overtake everybody. Together with Kreuziger he gaps the rest by 16s. So the Czech is leading the race again. Sanchez as 9th didn`t lose time to most favourites but also wasn`t able to gain time on Martin to improve in the rankings.

Oh no, Kreuziger steals another 16s on GCSad

Spilak23
The win will be tough now with Kreuziger taking more seconds but let's hope you can pass Martin on the next stage!
