Great to see the Aviva mountain train in action! If we could kick Koch off the podium it'd be a brilliant race. However, what's wrong with Schorn? On paper he is the best sprinter and yet in every sprint he barely makes the top 10 and is only 6th in the points classification with five other sprinters ahead of him.

Also, not that I'm keeping count, we're now up to 43 days of racing and only once saw an Aviva rider in a breakaway. If it were totally random (granted, it's not) and we have 20 teams and on average 5 riders in the BotD, the chance should be 25% and we should have seen Aviva in at least 10 breakaways. Mysterious.

Aviva with some nice depth!

3 breaks in as many days, good omens for some PureBlack stage success later!
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

Your team is too good for breaks Pfft

Alaphilippe is on par so far, hopefully he can step up for a great result!

Especially when you have top tier leaders for both flat and mountain stages.

April will be very important month for us. First goal race and three Ardennes races with only having Ulissi in those. Also looking at the startlist of all races... Oh man, will be tough Grin

At least now I don't have to be worried. No CCC in April so far.

Pretty good start in South Africa for Bosch, Braun nearly got the KoM jersey and Auer got into white relatively early.
Ilias is still close with the TT looming, so the gap definitely needs to grow some more. Also a couple of GC places should be able to be gained as well.

Two hard mountain ascents to gruesome finishes awaited the riders on day 7 and 8.

You can't handle that Jamaican heat Cool Henao just utterly comfortable in South Africa and racing on a nother level from anyone else. Great teamwork around him, protecting and stretching. It's only a matter of time until we can generate and grow a true Caribbean talent to match Sergio.

God awful stage 7 by Auer, slightly made up for the next day. Still, no way the gap will survive the TT, so a surprise split needs to appear on stage 9.

Vali
Unreal performance from Koch in the first mountain stage. The drop in the next mountain stages was expected but 13th before the last hilly stage and the time trial is still very good for him. Cattaneo though once more very disappointing, maybe he can do something in the time trial. Ponzi kept on improving in the sprints here and topped it off with a win, very pleased so far with him.

The Suntory challenge for the U23 crown still on track with another 2nd place from Edward Smith (maybe renamed to 2mith like 2agan?) and a good crowd in the top 20 at Ronde van Vlaanderen Espoirs.

Hoping Cav can repeat podium finishes at ZLM.

Super pace being kept up.

Nervous about how Bardet will go in the Ardennes, fingers crossed.

Just watched the videos from South Africa... untimely puncture on stage 7 for Poels and possibly a -5 form for Fuglsang, he couldn't keep up with anybody, not even his team mates who had to slow down for him. Poels sacrificed himself for Fulgsang the next day but again the captain wasn't in great form. Strong rides by Henao both days and an excellent performance from Figueiredo on stage 8, rewarded with a near-certain podium.

Tour of South Africa final three stages posted https://pcmdaily.c...st_1280712

Video S9: https://youtu.be/...

Spoiler
Happy that Schorn finally delivered in the last stage. The major problem with Schorn in the stages was that he was hanging onto his leadout for too long. Since most stages ended with a short flat section after the downhill, sprinters w/o such long trains or any leadouts started to sprint earlier and got it over the line. Schorn in many cases launched too late.

As to Fuglsang, damned if I know. Severely underperformed in this race. Crazy also that Dillier didn't win the last Time Trial, instead a guy with 71/72 TT. Strange tb but this is PCM TT daily form as we know it.

Henao above all, impressive performance here. But also very strong team performance by Cool Runnings, showing they more than a one rider team.

The race all in all was fun to watch although the flat stages were probably more fun than watching those mountain raids with those huge time gaps. I wished for a bit more thrilling GC action, could have been a real showdown but Henao had it settled early on.

Gratz to TMM

Hell yeah Cool Henao was in a league of his own in South Africa. Huge race for him with a multitude of good stages, the clear GC win, the KoM win and 2nd in Points. Plus a good race for Newbury into 8th GC as well.
Cool Runnings are doing rather well, now we just need to do well with our non-Henao riders Pfft

Henao was another level in South Africa - happy to Berhane pick up another stage win but it was a shame he couldn't make up for a massive piece of time lost on Stage 8.

Just missed out on a Top 5 finish, which would have been nice in the home race. Cool seeing the U23 team & the main team sharing the same tarmac

As always, thanks for the speedy reports and the great videos. Congrats to Henao, always up there, kind enough to let some other guys pick up the stage wins, very classy. Smile Consolidation prize winning the final stage. Schorn wasn't supposed to have any lead-out, damnit, I even pictured Bertilsson chasing the breakaway. Which idiot makes a lead-out train of climbers?

And Fuglsang, I'm calling a stomach bug which weakened him. Terrible from stage 7 onwards, the time trial just confirms it. Nearly even losing 5th to Berhane (TTR 69), who was 1'24 ahead in the ITT (Fuglsang TTR 73).
