“You should definitely do it.” Daphné repeated as she kept on massaging my leg. We had been living together for two months now, after my proposal in February she had put up her apartment for sale and quit her job at Virgin Atlantic. When she wasn’t at home taking care of me and being an all-round housewife she was commuting to Milan. Daphné had always dreamt of a career in acting, and now with her new found time she returned to taking up the drama classes.
Her mission for today was to have me do an interview for some cycling magazine I had never heard of. After getting her to promise me to cook my favorite dish of pasta I gave in to her demands. Agreeing to meet the American journalist in Daphné her favorite café later that week.
Spoiler Sorry for the super lackluster update. I put most my efforts into the article.

I didn't want to increase the size of the image.

Thanks!

Nicholas needs someone to be his arms and legs whenever he's off his bike.

@The Schleck Fan
I actually used Moser his stats as an example when I started out with Arcier. It seems they have grown a bit differently though.
These are their stats in September 2015 so after the Giro.
@sutty68
Thank you!

Stage 1 | Milazzo › Capo Milazzo, 8.6km
Nicholas Arcier, Eugenio Alafaci, Francesco Bongiorno
Thomas Dekker, Bob Jungels, Gilles Montandon
Samir Roussey, Boy van Poppel, Danny van Poppel
Three months ago Aziz Kastell and I stood toe to toe in Algarve. He in polo and shorts. I in my cycling kit. Today we once again stood toe to toe, but this time he also wore his kit. The bright Lampre colours and the number ‘141’ attached to his back pockets making him popular with the Italian tifosi. Aziz his autograph a hot commodity with the crowd, and I couldn’t blame them. With Horner and Pozzato as his two lieutenants, Lampre showed their trust in the climber.
Aziz was simply radiant in his role as leader, a role he has been used to since he first picked up road racing. (He was less of a talent in the mountainbike field.)
With the time trial short and with a steep final kilometer in it my morale was high as well. Helped even further by the hot Sicilian sun nicely toned down by a cool sea breeze. If I dived into sea I could probably swim to my mother in Malta within no time.
Our team wasn’t as big in names as Lampre, but with myself, Eugenio Alafaci, Francesco Bongiorno (Italian Champion!), Thomas Dekker (Only one above the age of 25!), Bob Jungels (Luxembourgian ITT Champion!), Gilles Montandon, Samir Roussey, Boy van Poppel and Danny van Poppel we had plenty of talent. And in these coming three weeks we were going to show that.
And we got off right to a good start with Bob Jungels clocking a superb time of 11’56. A time on which specialists like Westra and Navardauskas had broken their teeth by the time I rolled off the start podium. I knew I wouldn’t get close to Bob his time, but with Kastell starting 4 places ahead of me I still had a nice reference point to focus on.
The location, the food, the beautiful beaches and women. The Giro organization sure knew how to raise riders their spirits and start a grand tour off with a blast.
At the first checkpoint I was down on Jungels by 12 seconds, placing me just outside the top 20. Kastell also was ahead of me by 2 seconds, but I knew I could make up that lost time.
As I passed the bow of the final kilometer the road started to incline, with a smooth few shifts on my gear I right away found the pace I was looking for. My breathing, cadence, and dancing on the pedals all in rhythm.
1... 2... 3... 4... 5... 6... 7... 8! Eight seconds is how much I was down on Jungels his time, meaning I placed all GC contenders besides Moreno Moser behind me. Aziz was completely blown out of the water as well as I overtook him by 15 seconds!
Only two more men would dive under my time, Porte and Kangert beat me by 6 seconds, both falling short of Jungels his time. Meaning that the young Luxembourgian would be the first maglia rosa wearer, day one of the Giro and we already had a stage win and the leader jersey!

Great to see Nicholas as the "Maltese of the day". He can be satisfied with his performance.
Also, the win for Jungels takes some pressure from the team and Nicholas so he can do better |

Stage 2 | Milazzo › Caltagirone, 192 km
With the pink pages of la Gazetta dello Sport spread out across the table, breakfast was spend in great spirits. The Italian sports-paper was praising our team as one of the strongest in the Giro, a position we gladly accepted. They even knew it was my birthday today. (Quality journalism!) The only mistake in their report being that today would be a day for me to battle for the flowers. Sure the climb up to Caltagirone was a tough one, but not tough enough to kill off the sprinters. Today we would be riding for Danny.
After a high paced first hour a three man breakaway was finally allowed to escape the claws of the peloton. Most notable passenger the tall Belgian Vansummeren who took the mountain points on the first climb, making him the first mountain jersey wearer of this Giro.
With Cavendish and Kittel dropped on the second climb of the day it were Cannondale and our team who upped the pace in the peloton, closing the 4 minute gap with the breakaway completely with 20km left to ride.
What would follow was a hectic final full with various attacks and counter attacks, with Rogers and Majka from Tinkoff as the major characters. With Cannondale completely out of gas it where Dekker, I and a superb Jungels who had to close up the gaps. With Danny and me in Jungels his wheel, the young Luxembourgian provided a massive effort in the final kilometer up the climb to pull everything together for a mass sprint.
Unfortunately it was Viviani who showed everyone that his win at Milan-San Remo was not a fluke as the strong Italian easily sprinted to the stage win. With the platue right after the climb providing the final straight to the line. The gaps between the riders became huge resulting in me somehow finding myself in the wheel of Danny who launched himself over the flat section, the young Dutchman sprinting from wheel to wheel after the Italian and finishing a strong second. Pulling me along for a fourth place just ahead of Aziz.

Thanks.

I should probably make 'Maltese of the Day' a special section in my reports.
