Today's report has been delayed. Overslept this morning, and I don't have enough time before work to write it. It will be up tonight or tomorrow morning

That's the problem with tv's and games. Years ago, all you could do before sleeping was reading a book, which puts you to sleep. But watching tv and playing games keeps you up |

8th July 2011 - Le Tour de France
(Le Mans - Châteauroux)
I have some very fond memories of Châteauroux. This is where I got my first Tour de France win, and today's I hope to get my first victory of this year's Tour.
After some promising days that have ended up uphill finishes, today it is pan flat, so perfect for me. Want nothing less than a win!
14km: A group of 7 riders got away at the beginning of the stage. We were happy to let that go, but that was the maximum number of guys who could get in the break.
34km: With that in mind, HTC just sat close to the front, and it was Leopard who put up the chase.
55km: Leopard did a great job, pulling the break back. But soon, further attacks began to happen.
64km: A group of 4 riders formed off the front, and this time Garmin and Sky took control, with a little help from SaxoBank.
132km: The escapees gained a maximum of 9'08" over the peleton before the pace was upped with around 80km to go.
169km: 5th place was on offer at the Intermediate Sprint, and I took the 11 points on offer, ahead of Freire and Farrar.
203km: The breaks gap over the peleton began to tumble, and with 15km to go, it was down to less than a minute. Surprisingly, Filippo Pozzato (Katusha) attacked the field, but did not get far...
216km: With everything back together, the lead outs got themselves organised. The HTC guys did great, hitting the front hard, but I lost Renshaw's wheel trying to go through a gap that wasn't there. Thinking quickly, I dived onto the wheel of Boasson Hagen.
218km: As the sprint began, I was a slightly gapped by Farrar, Boasson Hagen and Davis, but I was feeling strong, and closing in fast!
219km: But I wasn't fast enough! Boasson Hagen takes a tight win, and a photo finish has to separate Farrar and myself. I guess the wait goes on...

@sutty: so you should be! I don't want any of that censorship again! It's impossible to work out what you were saying was it 'balls' that you said?

9th July 2011 - Le Tour de France
(Aigurande - Super-Besse Sancy)
The Tour enters the Massif Central, and as a result, the route begins to start going upwards. After a gentle start, today's stage has the Tour's first 'summit finish' ending in the ski resort of Super-Besse.
My focus will be on that first Intermediate Sprint, and then after it will be all about Tejay.
9km: The first attack started early in the stage. 5 riders tried to get away, including Allan Davis (Astana), who was clearly targeting the Intermediate Sprint.
14km: I asked the Team Car if I should maybe attack as well, but the decision was made to pull them back instead.
54km: Even was brought back together for a while as we took full control at the front, but approaching the first KoM sprint, Vasil Kiryienka (Movistar) attacked.
59km: Kiryienka gained around 45" over the peleton, before help came in the form of Philippe Gilbert (OmegaPharma). Like Pozzato's attack yesterday, this caught everyone by surprise, as we all saw Gilbert as an outside bet for a stage win today.
83km: With the Intermediate Sprint just on the horizon, we managed to pull everything back together, and the prospect of 20 points on the line had to ready to go. But there was a spanner in the works... Kiryienka attacked again with 1.4km to the Check Point, and was joined by Sylvain Chavanel (QuickStep) and David Moncoutié (Cofidis). As a result, I could only take 4th place in the sprint, but it was 13 points added to my total.
99km: Chavanel was clearly motivated for the KoM today, and set off on his own out front. Behind him, was the Moncoutié/Kiryienka group, and behind them was Lars, who had attacked in order to defend his KoM jersey.
154km: On the climb to the last KoM sprint, Lars was first to be brought back. Leopard and Katusha had taken control, and the peleton's size had been whittled away to just 54 riders.
174km: With only Chavanel left dangling out in front of the peleton, we decided to make a move. Kanstantsin attacked, but was clearly seen as a marked man by Leopard.
181km: Next to attack was Sandy Cesar (FDJ). The Frenchman was feeling strong, and wanted to the give the spectators a homegrown finish today.
184km: Cesar was pulled back, and with just 2km to go, we attacked again, but this time with Tejay. He was countered by Samuel Sánchez (Euskatel) and Bradley Wiggins (Sky), but Leopard were driving hard behind.
185km: Sadly for Tejay, he was caught with 600m to go, and it is Andy Schleck who takes the victory. French Television provided this great shot at the finish, where you can see the Yellow Jersey of Fabian Cancellara celebrating Schleck's win in the background.
