A great day! 11th on the GC and in the breakaway Smile very nice!

Thanks all. Indeed a good day for Ryan and of course Dombrowski. Great start into a not suitable looking race.

Tour of East Java

Stage 2 - Grezik - Tuban - Gresik (184km)
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Java_2_4-183.jpg

Well, the hills are not as hard as yesterday and in especially the last one is not very hard. Still it could be the hardest stage for the sprinters as there is not much time to bring back the attackers on that short hill.
For us the race went a bit different to what we had thought. Now with Joe in the leader jersey we will of course try to defend it.
So no breakaway for us today.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Java_2_5.jpg

We allowed a group of 4 riders. A good size to chase them down later today.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Java_2_7.jpg

De Buyst and Avis do the early work. They keep the gap under 5min.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Java_2_9.jpg

Already with 35km to go they are caught by Brown, who was doing an excellent job on the last kilometers. We have a flat section now until the last hill.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Java_2_11.jpg

Seeing the danger of time bonusses with some sprinters just behind Joe in the overall we sent Parker to the front to make the race as hard as possible now. Dombrowski is just behind him.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Java_2_13.jpg

But it wasn`t successful. Even pan flat terrain sprinter Stroetinga came over the top within the best and has a helper in front of him. Behind Colombian Angarita, Dombrowski, Van Rensburg and Rohan Dennis.
I am also doing well covering Joe`s back a bit.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Java_2_15.jpg

It`s the Australiam Champion Dennis winning todays stage. In the end the hill wasn`t selective but hard enough to let pure sprinters suffer a bit.
Angarita as 2nd today takes the overall lead from Joe while Pedersen as 3rd comes a bit closer.
Today we really have seen a sprint. So Dombrowski had no chance and his 11th is still notable.
I finished as 15th today. Same place as my new overall position, so I losta few places.

A shame for Dombrowski losing the jersey, but great to see Ryan finishing in 15th Smile

It's a shame loosee the jersey after a great victory but Ryan has done a very good job finishing 15th

roturn
A bit unlucky yes. But with some sprinters within the group of day 1 I expected to lose it.

Tour of East Java

Stage 3 - Surabaya Criterium (119,3km)
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Java_3_17-1193.jpg

Surprisingly we had a rest day after just 2 days. So todays criterium will finish our travel to Indonesia. Just like on previous days we don`t know much about the climbs. On the profile they don`t look very difficult.

In other news Ian Boswell was close to win the GP Zagreb yesterday. He attacked in the final climb but was overtaken by Pierre-Luc Perichon of the La Pomme team on the last meters. Still a great 2nd place for him.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Java_3_18.jpg

The first intermediate was pretty early and I decided to fight for the seconds. As 2nd I passed the sprint line.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Java_3_20.jpg

Together with 6 other riders I started another day in the breakaway seeing that there are 2 more sprints.
Most notable name here is probably Dirk Müller.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Java_3_22.jpg

2nd sprint and this time it`s me winning ahead of Müller and Jennings. Right now I collected 10s and will improve my position a bit.

Also I can say that the short climb is incredibly hard and I wouldn`t be surprised if the pure sprinters will get problems later.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Java_3_24.jpg

Last sprint and unfortunately Dirk Müller was a tiny bit in front. Still 4 more seconds, which makes it 14s in total.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Java_3_26.jpg

With 20km to go and 2 more climbs the peloton splitted a lot. Only 25 riders within the first group. Luckily Dombrowski is still there after he already lost contact a few laps ago. Avis is his only helper left as Parker missed the split unfortunately.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Java_3_28.jpg

Just two kilometers later I am caught just like the rest of the breakway. It`s maybe a bit too early as we still need to climb the hill two times and if I want to stay high in the GC I need to hang on now.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Java_3_30.jpg

I made the first climb. Now on the last the group is down to 22 and Joe sees a chance to win the overall by attacking. This is of course not ideal for me.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Java_3_32.jpg

3,5km to go and he has a 28s gap. I had luck and stayed in the chasing group, which is now down to 16. Definitely not a real sprinter stage.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Java_3_34.jpg

1km to go and he is caught by Pedersen and Richeze. I am at the end of the group trying to avoid any time loss.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Java_3_36.jpg

Richeze wins ahead of Pedersen, which means that both are within the same time now as Joe and Angarita. What a close GC decision with the added stage results deciding now and unlucky for us it`s Joe being moved to 4th and Colombian Angarita winning the GC.

On the other hand I was able to move up today and climbed to 8th overall after successfully hanging on to this group for the last 18km. This is definitely a great result for me.

WOW, Four on the same time in the GC, what a race Wink

Again nice job with Joseph and Ryan...That's a very interesting race: 4 with the same time in the GCShock

Ian Butler
Ryan doing very well here!

It was indeed pretty close with Joe in the worst position unfortunately. But seeing two guys in the top 10 on a "sprinter" race is fine for me. More than expected.

www.eddymerckx.com/media/News/201201_Pieter_Serry2.jpg

We can announce a 3rd Belgium signing. After Keukeleire and Goddaert he is our last European signing. Pieter Serry had a decent season for Topsport Vlaanderen but he probably had hoped for more. So he decided to change the team.
He is a good classic rider and his biggest dream is to win the Ardennes Classics one day. We will try to help him to make the next step before he will surely join the World Tour in future.

His biggest results this season were a stage win in the Tour of Qinghai Lake as also the 3rd overall there and a 4th in the La Tropicale Amissa Bongo. But the one result in a bigger classic is still missing.

velonews.competitor.com/files/2012/07/howes-481x421.jpg

Another signing is young American Alex Howes of the Garmin team. It might be a step down from a WT team to a PCT team but to make the next step he needs to lead a team in more races. We want to give him the chance to do so. He is a good climber/puncheur who wants to become a good American Stage Racer to fight for wins in the biggest cycling events.

farm8.staticflickr.com/7028/6731046935_7962082677_z.jpg

Our last bigger signing is Nathan Haas. The Australian also rode for Garmin this season but couldn`t fulfill their expectations as future puncheur star. He had helper tasks in most races and decided to join a PCT team would avoid a stagnation of his talent. In 2013 he wants to get more opportunities on his own again.

These last 3 are great signings for us and will really help us on PCT level. All of them collected experience and will definitely give us more depth. Something we surely need when performing on the next level.

3-4 riders still to come. All of them will be neo pros from America or Australia. Stay tuned.

Ian Butler
Serry is a great rider! Excellent signing Smile

Wow, 3 signings that can help the team in PCT and they are three young talent

Serry! Grin

I really like him. Howes and Haas are great names as well. Smile

Thanks all. Some more news for you. Wink

bontragercyclingteam.com/media/4646/BL_250x305_Ian_Boswell_3.png

Ian Boswell was already announced to ride for Bank - BGZ next season. But due to financial problems he was forced to look for another team. And he obviously found several interested teams.
In the end he decided to join the new sponsored HIG - Sanofi team (former Team Type 1) and will be part of an American PCT team, which might be better for everybody.

We from Bontrager already looking forward to meet him in the 2013 season and probably we will do quite often.

Next to come:
- World Championships
- Season end
- 2013 Presentation

This years UCI World Championship are placed in the Netherlands. The course will pass the Cauberg quite a few times but still it`S hard to predict if a sprinter or a puncheur wins this.
For me it`s a very special moment. It`e the first elite World Championship I am participating and it`s the last season race for me.
First I couldn`t believe that I was asked to ride but as some well known riders didn`t plan to participate I got a spot to help our leader Christopher Horner.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Worlds12_9.jpg

The time trial course would normally suit Lawson pretty well but unfortunately he isn`t here and we go all-in for Taylor Phinney who worked the whole season for this one moment. He had a good start and was faster than Martin or Cancellara but still it wasn`t enough to get an American Champion. The surprising winner of this years TT Worlds is the young Bob Jungels from Luxembourg.

Christopher Horner and Taylor Phinney are our main leaders today. Behind Joe Dombrowski and our new guy Alex Howes will get some freedom as well while the rest of us are helpers or for the breakaway.
With Joe and Ian two mroe from our team made it to the Worlds, which is pretty great.

Pretty early I did something I have done very often this season. I tried to join the breakaway but jsut when I attacked the pace went up again.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Worlds12_15.jpg

So a group of 6 without any US American got free: Morajko, Hayman, Wyss, Hegreberg, Boily and Burghardt.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Worlds12_17.jpg

For me this meant I was the first watter carrier. So I went to the back from time to time and supported my team as much as possible.
Maybe one day I will have the opportunity to be the leader at the Worlds.

Spain, Italy and Great Britain did the most work and as Valverde is doing the work, they might think it`s more a sprinter course for Freire or Rojas, while the Brits surely go for Cavendish. The Italians are not 100% clear yet but with Gatto, Modolo and Bennati they have some sprinters.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Worlds12_21.jpg

Bad luck for Ian Boswell. He crashes on the Cauberg and needs to fight his way back to the front. This costs him a lot of energy.

With 40km to go several riders start their attacks. Tony Gallopin first with Joe Dombrowski behind him as also Roelandts, Ascani and Vanmarcke.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Worlds12_28.jpg

But the pace was too fast. Soon they were caught again.
With 26km left it`s our routinier George Hincapie joining Steve Chainel with another attack. The French riders really ride aggressive today.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Worlds12_31.jpg

Again no chance with Spain powering behind.
With 17km the first really powerful attack by Johnny Hoogerland. The crowd of course is playing crazy now. Vanmarcke and Gatto try to join him a bit behind while the breakaway is still a bit ahead with Burghardt and Boily being in front as a duo now.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Worlds12_33.jpg

Last lap with 11km to go.
The duo has still 1'20 ahead of Gatto, Langeveld, Roelandts and Ignatiev with the peloton just behind.
And most notable: Tom Boonen, Valverde, Freire and Pozzato were all big favourites but none of them is in the peloton. Obviously the long season didn`t allow them to build up a good form for the Worlds as well.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Worlds12_35.jpg

With 6km left all is back together in the 47 rider peloton. Horner, Howes, Phinney and Hincapie are our riders left. I felt back a few kilometers ago but did my job. I still have a lot to learn.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Worlds12_37.jpg

Last passing of the Cauberg and three riders have a small gap. Roelandts, Gatto and Terpstra. This is looking pretty promising.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Eastman/Worlds12_39.jpg

Quite easily Roelandts finishes first. He surely was the strongest today after already attacking earlier this race.
Gatto was another very strong rider and rides to silver with Rojas taking care for at least a bronce medal after Spain did most work today.
Cavendish as 4th pretty impressive as well missing the 2nd consecutive win just by a bit.
Our riders had no chance against the sprinters and so the 29th by Horner was the best of us. Pretty disappointing to be honest. But with Tyler Farrar being the only US American top sprinter and totally out of form we had not much chances. Next year we will come again on a harder parcours.

I finished my last season race 10min later as 82nd. But it`s great to see Jens Keukeleire up there as 10nd. Hopefully he can give us some great results next season.
