Sprinters are too good for the puncheurs here
Very strong sprint by Steimle, and perfect timing by him. Well done, and congratulations, cio!
Happy to see Kragh defend himself very well, especially as Amezawa also seemed to be attentive and come home safe ahead of the split. Can't ask for more, and another day for Kragh with a high GC position makes for some bonus points |

Kinda heart breaking late loss, but obviously still a very nice bounce back from yesterday's no-show from Groves. The U25 lead is a nice to have bonus, too.
Didn't expect Haig to attack here, but good to see him trying.
Congrats, cio!

Overall a fine stage for us. Galta came home safely in the pack and was up front when the random GC attacks started to go off (but didn't needlessly follow them). Sureda keeps the points jersey one more day to snag a few more points. Tomorrow actually suits him with some climbing and a flat finish, but I won't ask for anything there.
Very slightly disappointing to see Galta isolated with Gregaard and Eg missing the split, but that's not a big deal in the end.

Giannoutsos the 2nd best GC rider atm (not counting Prado). That’s pretty great!
Nice to see Vila and Agrotis try today. Koretzky picked up our first point. Nothing worth the efforts so far, but atleast we are visable.
Great win from Steimle.

Absolutely unreal to win a stage here, this early, and certainly in the least expected fashion!
What an incredible effort by Jannik!
A non-Herklotz German stage win in a GT is a massive result any day of the week, and to put on the maglia rosa as well is an exquisite cherry on top.
With that position, it might even be possible to contest tomorrow's stage as well and fight hard to retain it.
It was intriguing to see initially that some of the sprinters were going to contest this, and having Steimle in a decent position going into the last KM gave me hope for maybe a Top 5, but it just kept getting better with every meter we got closer to the line.
I'm relieved that Groves at least gets to wear a jersey too to reward a great ride, he would've deserved the win as well. Well done!
It looks like Nieuwenhuis actually gave some vital assistance to Steimle in the sprint preparation, and THJ avoided losing time (interestingly as the only one of our climbers, which might come in handy). Awesome stage all around!
Thank you for the compliments.

Surprised to see Ahlstrand up front but the climb took too much out of him. Onto the next chance

Had hoped Pidcock or Bennett could be right up there, particularly with the latter's affinity for the hilltop finish, but guess too many sprinters were left and it was a bit too easy of a finish - so from that perspective glad Bennett was as attentive ashe was to finish with Dombrowski in terms of the GC guys! Sad Pidcock didn't target the stage though as he really should be in competition for the win. Hopefully the added sprint point next year can get him there.

Pretty dull racing by us so far. Janssen in the break looks nice, but is the worst possible option; Bol not making the cut when Steimle wins the stage sucks, and Schmid not even trying something is lame.
Well, at least Stüssi finished in the Top 20, amidst other GC guys. But until now, I'm pretty happy we don't need to get any points here
Congrats to cio, 2nd unexpected winner in as many road stages Although I still hate to see that energy stats mean absolutely nothing in this version ^^

Not much to say for us. Had our little moment with Sureda, now back to full force behind Galta. Thanks for the report!

Thank you a lot for another report, Abhi!
Cool to see Enger take the victory! Though, one must wonder when Ahlstrand will strike. Really hope he can get it right in the sprints, as he really should be the best sprinter here. Having said that, this might have been a difficult stage for him, but there should be 2, maybe 3, good chances remaining for him in the first two weeks. |

Pre race reaction:
Wow, tsmoha and me definitely won the planning jackpot. I do expect a tense battle for the win between Dombrowski and Haig.
Looking forward to your first GT, Abhi!
Will start reading the first four reports now.

Another podium finish for Ahlstrand. The points are flowing in, the flowers should follow soon!

Losing some time in the prologue was to be exptected. No problem.
Good we managed to stay out of trouble so far. Stage 6 will probably be the first test.

Such a close sprint, anything could have happened. Good to see Van Poppel improving.

Congrats to Cedevita, looks like they really had some amazing sprinter scouts this offseason
Good sprint by Bol, for once he was really well placed. 5th is a strong result in this field I'd say. Looks like it was a slightly downhill sprint, so his lack of acceleration might have stopped him from getting something even bigger, but good to see him actually being competitive against the big guns
Encouraging to see Schmid finish in the Top 15 as well, hopefully he's got something in mind for the tougher stages - having Janssen up front is OK, but not really useful. No clue why PCM still chooses that guy if everyone else would be the better choice ^^
Thanks for the report!

Would love to see my team a bit more active in the breakaways.
Was interesting that that hilly stage was contested by sprinters mainly...

 GRAND TOUR STAGE WIN!!
We got the big result we wanted. Enger slowly building up with 5th then 4th and now winning. Awesome to get those extra points as I didn't realise a win would get him both GC and points jerseys
