SotD - Thanks for the praise! I'm not good with taking compliments but I'm quite satisfied myself.
DD - Thanks!
Transfer Signing #3: Stepan Kurianov
Stepan Kurianov (27) FL | MO | HI | TT | ST | RS | RC | CB | SP | AC | FG | DH | PR | 79 | 65 | 65 | 62 | 76 | 74 | 76 | 71 | 75 | 70 | 72 | 70 | 64 |
The third signing of the year fills a completely different role in our roster: Stepan Kurianov joins us for a fee of 250,000 from Gjensidige. He will play a crucial role in our classic season and could potentially take over a leadership role in several flat classics. On top of that he will be an important domestique to Jan Polanc and Krists Neilands in the cobbled classics. He is also just 27 years old so could contribute for over half a decade at his current level.
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Loan Signings #3 & #4: Visser & Ulysbayev
Louis Visser (25) FL | MO | HI | TT | ST | RS | RC | CB | SP | AC | FG | DH | PR | 72 | 64 | 72 | 68 | 74 | 73 | 69 | 65 | 73 | 74 | 76 | 68 | 67 |
Louis Visser is our third loanee. He has a fairly versatile skill set that seems ideal for flatter stages. He combines a good sprint, the ability to climb short hills quickly and the willingness to attack which make him a very neat attacker for shorter tours. He joins us from Genii Hyundai N Cycling for a year.
Dinmukhammed Ulysbayev (25) FL | MO | HI | TT | ST | RS | RC | CB | SP | AC | FG | DH | PR | 69 | 74 | 71 | 70 | 70 | 70 | 70 | 60 | 62 | 65 | 68 | 64 | 69 |
Dinmukhammed Ulysbayev is a classic stage racer who is strong in the high mountains and knows his way around a time trial bike. He will be part of our support group for Pierre-Henri Lecuisinier in a couple of his races. Just like Visser, he was loaned to us by Genii Hyundai N Cycling.

Kurianov fits the Evonik mould so well! A good couple of loan signings there too.

Abhi - Absolutely, he was one of the guys I definitely wanted to make an offer for and am super excited that we got him. Between him, Ansons and Dversnes I finally feel good about my future rouleurs squad again
Transfer Signing #4: Lars Van der Haar
Lars Van der Haar (32) FL | MO | HI | TT | ST | RS | RC | CB | SP | AC | FG | DH | PR | 77 | 66 | 72 | 66 | 70 | 72 | 69 | 75 | 72 | 70 | 76 | 78 | 71 |
There are few riders we have had on our radar for longer than Lars Van der Haar. Finally, we were able to bring him in this year as part of a multi-rider swap with Assa Abloy. His signing might not fit perfectly to our long-term strategy of priorizing young riders with a good long-term perspective but we really value the short-term impact he can give us filling in multiple roles at a high level: He is a strong cobbler, a rouleur who can survive hills and sprints fairly quickly and a great descender. This versatility is a big asset to us.
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Two strong rouleurs/baroudeurs in Kurianov and van der Haar. Looking forward to see how Kurianov behaves in a free role actually, as I think there are some similarities with Ruiz Ulysbayev is definitely a nice loan rider as well.

Nemo - I'm excited to see that too. It's always been the plan to have one or more strong rouleurs for the flat classics so I'm excited that i could get two strong ones for this season.
Transfer Signing #5: Michel Koch
Michel Koch (32) FL | MO | HI | TT | ST | RS | RC | CB | SP | AC | FG | DH | PR | 66 | 77 | 73 | 68 | 69 | 74 | 74 | 51 | 67 | 76 | 57 | 61 | 70 |
Our fifth signing is a bit of a nostalgic one: Michel Koch re-joins us as part of a multi-rider deal from Kraftwerk. He was one of the first free agents we signed in our debut season in 2014, was being loaned out for the first two seasons until he finally raced for us in 2016 after promoting to the ProTour. Back then, the team started the annual tradition of announcing their sponsor goal of winning the Tour de France. As our best climber he was "responsible" for getting the prestigious victory and "surprisingly" failed. He left the team in 2018.
Now, five years later, Michel Koch returns to our team and we have once again set ourself the high goal. This time, Michel Koch is far from the best climber in our squad and will not be the focus of attention. Instead he will work as a domestique for a stronger leader. Will the circle close with a satisfying ending?
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

You're lucky that I just so happen to be able to cheer for your goal this time around!
I always wanted Koch when he was younger, but it wasn't meant to happen. Let's see if that was a mistake.

cio - Always great to hear that i've got your support. I've already noticed your PTHC bands selection with interest too...
Transfer Signing #6: Hannes Bergstrom Frisk
Hannes Bergstrom Frisk (28) | Lvl 4.42 FL | MO | HI | TT | ST | RS | RC | CB | SP | AC | FG | DH | PR | 66 | 73 | 68 | 71 | 71 | 71 | 74 | 61 | 55 | 65 | 67 | 66 | 71 | 67 | 75 | 69 | 73 | 73 | 72 | 76 | 61 | 55 | 65 | 67 | 66 | 73 |
Hannes joins us as part of the same deal that also brought us Lars Van der Haar from Assa Abloy. We already made him an offer last year but could not match the financial details of their contract offer so we are glad we could bring him in one year later.
Hannes might not be counted as young anymore but he still has potential to grow into a stronger rider. He is a typical stage racer with strengths in the high mountains and in time trials which make him a good Grand Tour domestique for the future.

I'm a big fan of Kurianov after having had him on loan previously. He did some good work for me even as a lvl 3 rider

Free Agent Signing #1: Deins Kanepejs
Deins Kanepejs (28) FL | MO | HI | TT | ST | RS | RC | CB | SP | AC | FG | DH | PR | 70 | 67 | 77 | 69 | 72 | 71 | 70 | 55 | 62 | 71 | 68 | 65 | 69 |
Our final signing would happen within the final minutes of the transfers windows as we were able to confirm the signing of our first free agent of the transfer window: Latvian Deins Kanepejs joins us on a minimum wage contract. Following a couple of earlier departures amongst our supporting puncheurs, the hills depth was thinned out a bit. Out of the remaining free agents, Kanepejs stood out as an obvious target for us. He will be an important domestique to Miguel Angel Lopez on the hills.

A long list of climbers and puncheurs spearheaded by new signings Tobias Foss and Pascal Eenkhoorn as well as our Latvian face of the team, Martins Blums. Some of them will get chances on their own, some will be expected to mostly work for our superstars, but everyone will have to contribute to the team if we want to improve from last years squad. Overall, this is a part where we improved quite a bit with Foss adding a completely new dimension to the team, Eenkhoorn being an upgrade over Vosekalns and Gavars and Plapp levelling up.
| Jan Polanc | 72 | 74 | 73 | 70 | 78 | 73 | 65 | 78 | 67 | 75 | 67 | 71 | 74 | 4.100 | 31 | | Krists Neilands | 77 | 56 | 69 | 63 | 74 | 73 | 70 | 78 | 71 | 67 | 63 | 71 | 67 | 4.100 | 29 | | Lars Van der Haar | 77 | 66 | 72 | 66 | 70 | 72 | 69 | 75 | 72 | 70 | 76 | 78 | 71 | 4.100 | 32 | | Louis Visser* | 72 | 64 | 72 | 68 | 74 | 73 | 69 | 65 | 73 | 74 | 76 | 68 | 67 | 4.62 | 25 | | Stepan Kurianov | 79 | 65 | 65 | 62 | 76 | 74 | 76 | 71 | 75 | 70 | 72 | 70 | 64 | 4.100 | 27 | | Kristers Ansons | 73 | 67 | 69 | 70 | 70 | 70 | 67 | 67 | 70 | 72 | 70 | 68 | 69 | 3.99 | 24 |
This group of rouleurs, cobblers and guys somewhere in between the categories will mostly cover the flatter races on the schedule. Cobbled classics, sprint classics, and stuff like that. We lost Havik, Becis and Kulppi but were able to add Kurianov and van der Haar who we rate as upgrades to the same roles within the squad.
We tried. We really did.
| Tobias Foss | 69 | 78 | 72 | 76 | 77 | 79 | 79 | 66 | 60 | 69 | 68 | 66 | 72 | | | | | | ↓↓↓ | | | | | | | | | | | | | Tobias Foss | 69 | 78 | 72 | 77 | 77 | 79 | 79 | 66 | 60 | 69 | 68 | 66 | 72 |
Training wasn't part of our plans for the year but when the end of the transfer window came near and we couldn't get the guys we were targetting, we decided to send Foss into the windchannel to work on his aerodynamics.

* Loaned In
**Loaned Out
It's been a busy transfer window:
- 9 riders remained with us
- 9 riders were sold
- 1 returning rider was loaned out
- 4 riders loaned in
- 6 riders bought
- 1 free agent signed
- 5 tourists contributed.
Overall, this squad is stronger than last year's one and we feel especially happy that our moves strengthen our long-term roster. Our goal for the season is a top 5 finish and we think these moves could get us there eventhough we are unhappy on missing out on final touches that would have given the squad a much better balance. In the end, we will of course strongly rely on our two superstars to have a big season and their performances will have a decisive input into our success.
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Foss developing one of the larger TT/PRL splits in the peloton. I'd like to see how far you can take that.
