Guldhammer, Monsalve, Quintana all somehow lost big time there and slip outside the top 10. That's two 3 star favorites and a 2 star favorite losing out to a lot of lesser guys.
No idea what happened there. Guldhammer seemed to be at the front for a long time, so I guess he just didn't have the legs in the end. Not great to happen with well over a dozen guys going up the road, but that's the luck of the draw. Not particularly happy to see it though. For a guy that finished 5th in the Giro, this is the second time now that Guldhammer has failed to show up in the king stage of a C1 stage race after Eritrea. However more impressive and fun the Giro performance was, C1 races score points for us, and PT races don't.
The good news for us is that this was only 3 wasted race days and not a lot more, so it's one of the more palatable disappointments of the year. Feel worse for Fabianski and Quintana, who was right there with Rasmus, but doesn't have the good results elsewhere to fall back on.
Congrats to Sauber, and thanks for the reports LLS!

Super surprising Queen stage!
Fun to see Galta aggressive, and still able to cling on to the big group makes for a decent GC with 7th place. Looking at Frankiny's attack, it's easy to think that could have been Galta, but this is nevertheless a big positive compared to Romandie.
Congratulations to Sauber and the big winners here. Beltran on fire is becoming a consistent thing this season. Also well done to the planning done with him
Probably means I should have sent Kwiatkowski here, but we've got to give Galta his chances too, and 7th in such a field is okay. |

Not much from us there, but a low top 10 and 2nd places in the KoM and U25 competitions are good points.
Exciting final stage with Frankiny robbing Beltran of that win. Congrats to Sauber for that one.
Finally, thanks for all the reports LLS. Consistent and scenic!

Nice to see the homegrown Swiss rider getting rewarded for his attack. We brought a stacked lineup to this one and the talk pre race was SLagter or Ranaweera but that just allowed our third option Frankiny the freedom, I'm convinced having stronger teammates meant he wasn't marked as much as if we had brought only him, and they both managed to get good depth scores here too.

What a great win from a very sympathetic manager and team. I love to see these selfmade projects come to life. Well done and congrats Sammy!

Congrats Sammy, you’re team does have amazing depth in the mountains and it paid dividends here. It is good to see your boys you higher up the standing where you’ll hopefully be safe.
Thanks for the reports too, much appreciated.

This goes beyond my comprehension. Our first rider is 95th in the GC? Unless the team was on strike here, what the hell was going on? *Sigh* This race is marked as a total disaster.
Congratulations to Sammy and to all who did good here! And thank you again for the excellent reports! |

Thanks LLS for another steady and entertaining reporting.
Congrats sammy, this must be one of highlights of your entire MG career.
It looks like bonus seconds from last intermidiate sprint about 15km (?) before finish decided about winner and also 4th & 5th place. Great to see one of many Latour´s fruitless attacks wasn´t fruitless for once as he secured 4th place overall here

Rough few stages for us, thought we could have done better than the 7th on stage 1 with Hayakawa but its mostly gone down from there. No worries though, didn't bring an amazing team to begin with.
Btw - thanks for the great reporting LLS as always! |

I'd call this a sandwich race - two crappy stages, and a yummy one in between. Great win for Moscon, at least one leader who delivers.
No clue why Nairo showed his "I don't care" face again. He definitely shouldn't finish that far back. And Moscon shouldn't finish the stage behind Schmid, obviously. Well, we take stage 2 and forget about the rest.
Congrats, sammy! Great to see a homegrown Swiss win - Frankiny will likely be Switzerland's #1 climber for some years once Schelling declines!
