[PCT] Carlsberg - Danske Bank p/b Schlumberger
Eden95
Despite their declines, that is quite a nice little bit of cap space you’ve freed yourself there with Trenin and Guldhammer’s reductions Smile even if you do ultimately decide to keep them both for next season, a couple of smart cut price point scoring additions could see you fighting it out at the top come the end of the season. And if not, the money you could make from their sales could most definitely afford you a top5-10 rider for the division. Interested to see how you go about it come transfers.

Great business done by you at the top end, agree with the comments saying you're prepping for promotion!

You seem to be one of those managers that is always on the ball when it comes to renewals Smile

I guess you have options either to rebuild a bit or try to target promotion. Either way you should be safe from any relegation danger Smile

Bouglas for free you say. Nice little treat. I guess I don't have to come running for him then Pfft

Some great renewals btw. Kämna and Aranburu at 150K. Nice!

Overall I think you did very very well here.

Those big pay cuts on top 2 wages is definitely a set up for promotion

I certainly hope so, but a long way to go for that. Gotta maximize what I do next to get there.

Very intriguing wage cuts at the top, should give you a lot of room to move during transfers.

Ideally I wanted both Guldhammer and Trentin even lower, but it's always a struggle to get declining guys down to reasonable wages for their abilities, and I'm pretty satisfied with how it turned out. Certainly a lot of directions to go now.

Fabianski wrote:
Those wage cuts definitely look great! Both Guldhammer and Trentin should have another good PCT season in their legs - but I wouldn't be surprised if you tried to sell at least one of them trying to rejuvenate the team. However, the future definitely doesn't look bad with the likes of Kämna, Gregaard or Eg still being rather young, and AKA's only 30 as well. I definitely agree with quadsas that a couple of smart transfers could see you going for promotion this year!

My availability post will come later, but selling either of them is definitely on the table. I'm confident both can still do alright in PCT, and their wage cuts have given me enough room to get another scorer. But you're right that keeping them may not be the best move if I can catch a bigger fish with the room.

And indeed, I'm excited about my young core for sure. It's been a treat seeing them all develop. Though the reality is none of them are true PCT leaders, so that still leaves a hole in the team long term.

whitejersey wrote:

I hope so. Definitely enough room for another leader, but there will be sales as well, as you shall see in a bit.

Yeah, I could stand pat or really wheel and deal. The end point will probably be somewhere in between, but who really knows? I think the young core is probably staying stable, but a lot of other pieces are in flux.

Well now you're getting me hyped up, maybe it's promotion or bust. Pfft

Haha, I don't know about always on the ball. The last few years have gone pretty well, but it took me a very long time to get to this point. My renewals were so bad my first couple of years that the admins must have been questioning my sanity. Pfft

Well, you know how it is with secondary sprinters in renewals. To be clear, we did got through negotiations, but I think it was clear early that Bouglas had different figures in mind than we did. I'd be happy to see him back at home this year.

Very happy with Kamna and Aranburu as far as wages go. Kamna in particular I think could do well for that wage with good planning. Good planning has never been my strength, however. Pfft

I agree with the others, overall very nicely done! I still think the team needs one or two extra pieces to be among the top promotion contenders, but you should have the means to get those. If that is the direction you want to take, Last Dance style with Guldhammer and Trentin Grin

Yeah, we're definitely still missing a few pieces to become a promotion contender. I mean, my two biggest leaders declined after a 13th place finish, and I haven't done anything to compensate for it yet (besides maybe Kamna being developed). So we're probably closer to relegation than promotion right now. With my anticipated sales, I think it would be possible to add another leader to the fold and call it there, with Guldhammer and Trentin again at the helm. But we'll see if the opportunity arises for something bigger.

Carlsberg Transfer Availability 2022

After a mid-table finish in PCT, Carlsberg - Danske Bank have renewed the vast majority of their team, and they already are at the minimum 20 riders. Technically, they could do nothing. Based on our sources within the team organization though, that's not the plan. Some wheeling and dealing is about to take place. The question is how much.

So, as we do every year, we have compiled a list citing the projected availability of each Carlsberg rider ahead of the transfer season. This is based on leaks from management and riders, as well as information we've gathered in earlier interviews.

As always, this list is not determinative of whether a rider will actually be transferred. Rather, it displays the likelihood of a sale given a market value offer at the peak of transfers. A rider listed as "maybe" is not necessarily a 50% chance to be sold regardless of the situational context.

The top two names on that list, Guldhammer and Trentin, are perhaps the most in flux. Our sources say there is some disagreement within the Carlsberg camp about the direction they should move this transfer season. It's possible both could stay, one could leave, or both could leave. Swap deals for a stronger leader with money going out as well could be an option too. Interested teams should definitely get in touch, although these leaders are far from guaranteed to be sold.

Larry Warbasse is firmly on the block after several years at Carlsberg. The reason is clear - climbing was already an area of depth for Carlsberg, and now it's even deeper with the graduation of Kamna and Gregaard, who were out on loan last year. That makes Warbasse redundant. While he had an underwhelming year in 2021, he's just one year removed from finishing 6th overall in the CT individual rankings. He also just took a massive wage cut to only 125,000 without any skills decline. His ideal situation is probably either as a CT leader or a PT superdomestique.

Among the other names who could potentially move is Sebastien Lander. His place on the team was always one of opportunity rather than perfect fit, having joined in a late transfers cap crunch a year ago. Since Carlsberg worked for Matteo Trentin in almost every cobbled race last year, the team felt like Lander was not properly able to utilize his hybrid skillset, and was instead reduced to a domestique role that should be beneath him. Ideally he should be on a team where he has his own opportunities.

Other riders who may go include Ramon Sinkeldam, who has been both a great lieutenant and leader during his time with Carlsberg, but has effectively been replaced by rising talent Resell. Kasper Asgreen may also leave. He signed with Carlsberg out of juniors five years ago and its a worthy domestique, but he is especially likely to be traded if Carlsberg don't add a puncheur for him to work for.

There has been some speculation around the future of Alex Aranburu as well. He was apparently quite unhappy to be forced to race a hilly classics calendar last season rather than the mountainous and especially hybrid races he favors. With many of those races going to Guldhammer instead, Aranburu was on the outside looking in. Carlsberg are committed to making amends and satisfyingly his wishes going forward, but a mutual parting of ways could still be in the cards too, if the right offer and situation come along.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

No loan-outs are currently needed this season at Carlsberg, for the first time in a very long time. All of Carlsberg's prospects are poised to develop easily at the PCT level, making such arrangements unnecessary.

However, with their loan cap potentially free, Carlsberg may be interested in taking a big name talent on a 1 > 3 this year for the proper fees, depending on the situation. We'll have to see how the situation develops.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And finally, as far as buying, the agenda is much more open than in previous years. It could be as simple as adding another leader and calling it a day, or there could be a lot of hectic transfers in store. A puncheur leader could be on the list of priorities, but an upgrade on another terrain is certainly possible too. We'll just have to see what they decide.

We asked team manager baseballlover312 for comment. As always, he was evasive regarding specific plans, but did have this to say:

"We're very happy to have all the riders we have under contract. We don't think we're a complete team yet, but we're not in a rush to do anything crazy either. Obviously I've had discussions with some of our veterans who have a chance of leaving, and we'll be doing our best to accommodate them while improving our team. That said, I'm not lying when I say I really don't know what's in store for the next couple of weeks. We're in a stable situation with some flexibility for the first time, well, maybe ever. I'm looking forward to playing the market."

We hope you're just as excited for transfers as we are. We'll be with you all the way.
