Tour de San Luis Discussion

Kelderman got the job done on Stage 3. Had a sinking feeling when JJ was going toe-to-toe with him at the end, but for once Wilco got the job done, just about! Great to hold the jersey.

Kind of expected Stage 4 to go to the break and it did. Congrats lief Smile

Now to lose the jersey in the ITT and try to get it back later.

Thanks for the reports redordead Smile

Woo Hoo, 10% of the way to my 10 stage victories target!

Seriously though more happy about Craddock hopefully heading to a high GC place and Hass TTing surprisingly well.

Thanks for report.

Dang, that was brutal! Hopefully we can get a stage or something to take with us from this race.

Looking forward to the latter part of this race now Smile

Pretty abysmal from JJ, but I couldn't have expected much better I guess.

I think it's just very hard for hills to have significant time gaps compared to a TT in this game. The top 5 right now is evidence that a stage racer might be the better option in a race like this. Still some time though, so we'll see what happens.

Quaade in 5th is of course worse than I wanted, but that's about where he's been all year.

Thanks for the report!

What a stage, Novak really put in an absolute number as he has been throughout this race. I'm super impressed with the work he's put in on the hills to survive and put himself into this situation. Li and Ghyselink being on the podium and in the top 10 respectively is also amazing.

Thanks for the report RedOrDead, and shoutout Bball for calling Novak having a good race so far ahead of time, has definitely given us some good juju Cool

Close one for the win Shock

Good one for us here, Durasek and De Vos with very good performances and it looks like we might get some decent points here, despite it being an XP race for us!

Decent outing by Sterbini, too bad beng only four seconds behind the winner "only" amounts to fourth. Four out of five stages in the top-5 so far, too bad it doesn't amount to a lot of points in C2 Pfft Last three stages will be a bit harder for my team, the only thing I can hope for is a very small breakaway group with a guy like Bru going for the KoM and maybe surprising everyone again Smile

Thank you, redordead, and congratulations to Glanbia for that long awaited win! Also gg to Carrefour.

I didn't expect much from Pernsteiner - but he did still worse. At least, it's still a Top 20, and now we don't have any excuses to not attack right from the start on the next two days. Let's hope the boys really got the game plan now!

Congrats to Glanbia, but also to Carrefour! Definitely no more questions about the division's #1.
And thanks for the report, red - one that I enjoyed as much as pretty much all TT reports including my team Pfft

Bjartne
Hehe, terrible performance once again. I hope this means we can be more aggressive in breaks for the rest of the race Pfft

Glad JJ tried something, but it was just not the right time I guess. Kelderman had Watson close it down instead of just countering, which dragged everyone else along and definitely benefited the others.

At the end of the day, if Novak and Craddock do better than JJ and even Kelderman on hilltop finishes, there's not much we can do about that. 6th on GC is okay given the TT. Maybe we can still sneak into the top 5.

Nice from Craddock but Haas must have really imploded on last climb, he was there at the start and fell way back.

Another unreal performance out of Novak, really looks like having a beast helper in Quevedo made a difference (or maybe just the PCM AI)

That said, with one real hilly stage left and a flat one after, if anyone could put a minute on Novak it's Kelderman, so not going to count our eggs before they hatch.

Horrible stage. That bunch of lazy money-consumer didn't even try something, and Pernsteiner seems to be the wrong guy to lead the team. I don't know what it is, as he's easily stronger than the stage winner and quite some other guys ahead considering pure Mo/Hi stats, so I guess his abysmal acceleration holds him back. Maybe tomorrow's stage with more bumps and some longer climbs suits him more.
However, I definitely want to see attacks; right now, most of the team is just completely useless. With the exception of Scully, of course, and Pernsteiner should still be capable of at least getting a Top 15.

Btw, don't really understand why that final climb was worth 20 points... Nonetheless, congrats to Guave on a great stage, and thanks for another nice report, redordead!

Don't know how Dumoulin keeps under-performing despite being (billed as) the 'best TT rider in the division'. Last year it was Kelderman, this year it is him underperforming consistently. Coming to the latter, if a puncher with a 3 Hill advantage over anyone else cannot hold a lead in a finish like this, I'm not sure how to go about race planning any more! The reason for choosing this race is the four hill rated stages and while I can understand the break taking one of them, but if worse punchers keep outperforming our leader in hill-top finishes, what's the use of all the off-season planning?

No grudges to Carrefour though. They've had a superb season and I think the CT title gets more assured for them with every race.

Thanks for the excellent reports redordead Smile

Congrats Guave!
Seibeb looking strong but hope he can get a stage podium tomorrow. Also Reguigui riding out of his skin to keep a top 5 - very unexpected. Two lads in the top 10 in such a strong field is a strong showing so far.

Not a surprise that some screentime in the break was the best we could do yesterday, so Hayter did all I could have expected.

Unreal how a 74/75 rider beats guys like Kelderman in this stage imo, but pcm was never going to win a prize for realism anyway Pfft

I hope we're in the right break today as well. The break might survive, and you never know what Bru could do on a very good day. Not really expecting any stage result though, but scoring some points with that many KoM's on the menu would be nice.

Good that this horrible race is almost over. I've really been looking forward to it, but PCM AI really proved that you can be dumber than anyone might imagine. Seriously, Mundle in the breakaway on a hilly stage - even twice - is completely nuts and pretty much useless.

Even worse, Pernsteiner has been absolute trash all the way and especially today - I mean, even Walscheid and Merino Criado finished in the same group!!! I've always tried to explain those rather strange results, rather defending PCM, but here I'm really fed up. The only explanation I could find is Pernsteiner trying to get fired - it looks more and more like he'll succeed, as he's been pretty useless in most of his races.

Thanks for the report nonetheless, I just hope I'll finally be able to enjoy another one tomorrow. The hilly ones were just frustrating, but that's obviously not your fault.
And congrats to Carrefour - even though I find it absolutely ridiculous how Novak destroyed Kelderman in this race.

I really thought for a moment that JJ had the stage win there, but goddamn... Novak is just unstoppable. I called him for the GC based on the TT and limiting losses, but I never expected him to be winning hilly sprints like this in a million years. 73 hill and 65 acceleration, but he gets the job done anyway in the last. Congrats to Carrefour!

On the whole though, this was an absolutely huge performance by JJ and the entire team. Gregaard, Sulvaran, and especially Sinkeldman did really amazing work to not only keep attackers in check, but force the selection that led to a lot of the non-true puncheurs finally cracking. And the latter two both worked their way into the top 25 GC wise on the way. 2nd in Team Classification too. That's a team performance to remember for sure.

Taking stock of JJ's performance, this was definitely a success in the end. He moves up to 3rd on GC with another stage podium. 3rd in points too. That's a good chunk of ranking points. At C2 it can't really make up for the disaster that was South Africa, but it's absolutely huge in trying to get us reestablished in a promotion race that we have been tumbling in.

Still one more stage. We have no sprinter, so no expectations. Thanks for the report!

Inevitable that Craddock would crack. I predicted he'd get top 10 so can't complain. A stage win and top 10 still makes this best result of the year.

Thanks for report.
