I think it was happening to Eislers in the Vuelta. It does seem to vary by race since I think there are races where AKA has worked more like a sprinter. It never happened to Holloway or Kemboi so I think maybe it is the low ACC that disqualifies him from being treated as a sprinter some of the time. Agree there is not much you can do, also don't think PCM20 fixes this.
Low ACC relative to sprint could be a factor. Van Heerden hasn't participated in sprints either. I mean, he was never a great rider with his low acc, but here he's not even trying.

I'll do a quick test soon to test sth. Bonifazio is also a sprinter with very high flat (and even strong acc) but in my last race (Hanko) he didn't care to sprint, which wasn't the first time in the season. I'm going to replace the two rouleurs in his team (Vanbilsen and Biermans) and see what his reaction is (if he sprints or goes for an early attack himself). I'll let you know in the changes discussion thread.
Now to the results, as a manager I'm obviously happy with Manarelli in third, even hoped for more when I saw him advancing at 500m, but I'll take third Also Marco, as there are quite some reporters in this thread, I think a lot understand the "pain" you're going through when having to document such sprints
I saw the report just before I went too bed and then stage 5 appeared somewhere in my dream. Sterbini was 17th in the stage and in the GC and it seemed so real that I still think it really happened. So anything better than 17th tonight will make me happy tbh

I think the rouleur role thing could be something. Although I don't think we have quite enough data to really say that's quite what made AKA underperform all season. As Ulrich said Holloway and Kemboi are doing great as high flat sprinters. I think if you ask knockout Eislers has been probably underwhelming. Probably even worse than AKA has been Bonifazio who doesn't have an ACC deficit which is another conundrum.
Lower ACC sprinters are doing worse most of the time and I think that's been going on since last year. So why the OVL hasn't been changed to weigh ACC the same or more than SPR is a mystery, but we could talk about the failures of OVL all day long, just look at my team

Not surprised that Boev didn't have legs to contest the sprint on this stage. Nice to see Van Lerberghe get involved in the action. Was hoping for more such sprints from the latter but it hasn't happened much. Let's see how the last stage shakes things up in the GC.
Congrats on the win and thanks for the report

We actually had a great day on that TT stage!
I definitely never expected to bring 4 guys into the points here, so that's a great GC result in the end I did expect Basso to finish inside the Top 20 after the stage 4 standings, but I wasn't aware that there were so many mediocre time trialists that even Brüngger and Mäder could make the Top 30. Seeing Lienhard staying up there is a nice bonus as well
The highlight was obviously Scully's first stage win, plus 3rd in the points standings. But to see Mäder in 2nd place in the U25 standings is great as well, even finishing ahead of Norsgaard. So, what looked like a pretty bad race after stage 3 turned into a good one, where we even achieved our 10 PpRD goal.
Thanks for the reports, and congrats to Carrefour on yet another massive result here! Let's see if Kelderman can counter to keep Philips in the title fight - I guess we won't be strong enough to really challenge at least these two, given the latest results.

Well, it's better than 17th, but ninth on the stage and 7th in GC is not what I hoped for, and quite disappointing. As I don't have any puncheurs and Marquez scores okay but not wow, time trials is where I really needed to outscore some opponents in the promotion battle. If Sterbini fails to do so like today, I'll have to be happy if I can still finish sixth/seventh in the CT rankings.
Congratulations to maxime for the win and nice result, as well as to the others that did well In MG terms it will be a month until we all meet again, so see you then
Thank you for the great coverage of Danmark, Marco! Looking forward to your next reports in the division!

Not Quaade's best day to finish 7th on the stage, but at this point I can't expect to get a favorable roll in this race. 5th on GC is probably better than we could have expected though, and is very respectable. Still, we're hemorrhaging points to our rankings rivals, and Quaade's mild success cannot really make up for AKA's lack of scoring. He has so few race days, and we wasted 5 more here.
I'd like to say this was a race to forget for us, but let's be honest. I won't forget it.
Congrats to Carrefour on more success! Terrific team you put together. And thank you to Marcovdw for the timely and extremely well written reports.

I genuinely don't understand how Rui costa lost as much time toe the TT riders on the hill stage as he did in the TT when he should have put time into them on the hill stage, completely killed our GC ambitions here but at least some smart riding by Hirschi ensured we took home to KOM jersey.
I am dreading his renewal again as I'm worried it won't come down by enough to keep the key guys I want to build around and him, I already had to sacrifice some guys last season and fear more of the same.

Could not be more happy with the way this race turned out. Sure Lavoine could have done a bit better, but at the price we got him for my expectations were low. But boy, oh boy, Li and Ghyselinck really came up clutch here. Especially Ghyselinck, who I believe is up there in age if I remember correctly, I was a bit worried about that salary-dump deal with Laporte leaving and Ghyselinck and Skala coming back, but with a performance like this alone, it's probably exceed my expectations.
Hate to ramble on so long about a time-trial win by a guy who was one of the favorites for this race, I just genuinely had expectations so low, especially thinking that if someone performed well that it would be Li, that I'm just so blown away. Thanks for the congrats wishes and thanks for marcovdw for the unreal reports, pure class. |

Three former Bennelong(Oz) riders on the GC podium? That's great to see. Particularly happy for Oram, but surely a great achievement for Ghyselinck and Li (who used to be a personal favorite of mine), too!

Loosing the GC on the last day is hard, allthough never realistic to keep the jersey, still gives you a little sting right in the kisser.
Great reports and thank you all

Great TT by Laizer on the final stage! Daily form comes in handy sometimes. Glad Kiflay could clinch a top 10 overall as well.
Didn't expect much from the race, but happy with how it turned out. Congrats to Maxime!

Disappointed with Dumoulin's performance. 4th in the GC isn't bad and we did have a good race otherwise, but to be 17 seconds off the best time with the best TT in the division isn't that great.
Looks like Carrefour are starting to run away with it now. Congrats Maxime
@Fabianski: Don't think Kelderman has shown enough to get our hopes up too high for the future.
Thanks for the great reports Marco!
