Remaining stages of Tropicale and Toowoomba posted. Wanted to do a vid for Toowoomba stage 4 but pressed the one key and didn't notice that I wasn't recording
Spoiler Lots of breakaway wins in Tropicale which is not too illogical since Suntory greatly profits from not having any bonus seconds on the line.
On stage 4 of Toowoomba, Contador put in an early attack followed by Lutsenko and Kwiatkowski. Mohoric was following closely. Eventually the riders sat up after some ferocious pacing of Lutsenko, and lesser tier riders could join the bunch. Towards the end, Kwiatek had the most in the tank to finish off with a win, whilst Mohoric was actually struggling in the closing kilometer and was lucky that the group was this close, otherwise he might have lost some precios seconds to Moser.
Really surprisingly good race by VDP who came 3rd two years ago and also profited off the good time trialing at Liberty this time around. He was struggling in stage 4 though, so the 78HL are felt unfortunately.

A stage win, KOM and 2nd in points is just not enough. Don't know what happened in the TTT but something seems to be wrong. Three 76+tt riders don't seem to make a decent timetrial. Dissapointing
Decent result by Van Asbroeck in Palm Classic. Just no top ten unfortunately

8th is very good from Puccio, did not expect that. The rest of the guys were disappointing though, Silvestre not even participating in the sprints and Jungels injured after the crash on the 3rd stage. Oh well, the GC was unexpected and nice but we really need to score in other ways (KOM) as well.
Thanks for the results!

Well time trials in PCM15 are a bit random but looking at your team, the answer is pretty easy and straightforward to find so I don't understand your comment that something should be wrong at all...
| | | Avg | TT | PRL | Martin | Tony | | 76.2 | 76 | 76 | Kwiatkowski | Michał | | 80.9 | 77 | 78 | Battaglin | Enrico | | 77.6 | 64 | 65 | Boaro | Manuele | | 75.3 | 76 | 77 | Borcy | Quentin | | 71.8 | 64 | 64 | Albanese | Vincenzo | | 71.8 | 61 | 61 | Nounkeu | Henri | | 72.7 | 59 | 60 |
To clarify, 4 of the 10 worst time trialist in this race were on your team.
In comparison good old Grupo is an unstoppable steamroller:
| | Avg | TT | PRL | Durbridge | Luke | 79.9 | 81 | 81 | Mohoric | Matej | 79.6 | 76 | 75 | Vorobyev | Anton | 78.9 | 80 | 78 | Gesink | Robert | 76.7 | 75 | 73 | Geyer | Marc | 75.8 | 74 | 74 | Brown | Nathan | 75.1 | 77 | 75 | Roux | Anthony | 74.9 | 76 | 75 |

Only points we got from the race was from Cano being 3rd in the U25 classification, but we expected that. Goes to show though that aside from Sagan we have nobody for hills.

Very good debut for Moser in our colors, will definitely take P2 and the teams classification. Unfortunately it seems to have been wasted racedays for Bouhanni, thought he could pick up two easy stage wins.

A very promising result from Wellens, so an average first month for us.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Great goal race performance from Pedersen at La Tropicale Amissa Bongo with 4 podiums in the first 4 stages. Lucky that breakaways took the bonus seconds to keep him up there in GC.
We got GC 1st, Points 2nd, U25 1st and Team 1st.
Total opposite at Toowoomba as we sent our strongest team to Africa, Suntory's race saved by a breakaway stage win from "bargain domestique" Stephan Rabitsch.
Awesome 4th place from U23 TTer Jonathan Wright at Tour d'Indonesia!

Hmm, turned out Toowoomba was better for my team than Palm Classic, weird, lol
Two 2nd places by Ulissi and Umerbekov is way more than I expected. Lame I hasn't realised there was TTT here. |

Three stage wins, GC win, KoM win, Team win, 2nd in green jersey and also another top-10 in GC. Great start of the season for Nerz in Indonesia, while Kreuziger seems to have done some strong domestique work. Also happy about the two Fins Hämäläinen doing well in the GC and youngster Niemi sprinting to a top-10 in the fifth stage Might not have been the best choice points-wise to send Nerz to several CT2 races, but if he delivers like this he will still be scoring nicely I suppose. I just hope Rui Costa's terrible performance in Christchurch isn't a thing that will happen over and over again, because I really need him to be more consistent if I want to be in the promotion battle. Thanks for the quick pace!

The nature of our team is we will typically either have one of the favorites or be an also rans, Toowoomba fits into the latter so wasn't expecting much. But wasting Mullen race days there was a planning failure. Mapemba rescued the race with his 2nd from the break. But he also somehow got dropped early in the TTT and we finished behind a bunch of teams we should have beaten. Still I guess I am ok if we save our TTT luck for races where we have real GC aspirations.
Thanks for all the reports.

5th is great from Yates at Toowomba given we don't do well in TTTs. Decent minor points elsewhere, so it's a decent month for the team.
Not much luck in Indonesia for the juniors.

Last 3 stages of Tropicale was not nearly as exciting for us, since the breakaways won, but we were no longer a part of them. Langlois still lacking in the flat sprints too, leading to him losing 4th on count-back and not getting another stage top 10. Still, I see a top 5 as a very satisfying start for him. 7th for Lavery is also impressive, and we got our first win from the race. Mission successful as far as I am concerned.
RIP Exxon Duke, David Veilleux, Double Feature, and Monster Energy

What a great finish in Indonesia. Kern already looking like a great pickup, multiple stage wins and a points jersey already in the season. Uran, Yamamoto and Pauly all getting great depth results there as well.
If it wasn't for the poor placement of positioning in Tropicale Kern or Plesner would be much higher up, so thats annoying, but still some solid stage results there.

First rankings update posted. Mohoric in the lead. Can he challenge for the individual crown again? In the CT EF and VisitUkraine are in the lead.
Small changes in the rankings for this season:
- In the country rankings only the best 10 riders of each country are counted. This ranking only has one major use and that is when choosing the participants in the world championships. I feel for that looking only at the top riders of each country is fair.
- Next to the division I put the rank of each team in each ranking only compared to other teams from their division. That way it should be easier to see where one stands. |

Continental outfit Magnum - Madshus might not have been present at the Palm Classic, their riders were definitely watching the race on television. Some of them, the sprinters in particular, were shocked by what they saw. One of the veterans of the team and more experienced sprinters in the peloton, Frederique Robert, already spoke with the press: "I have seen a lot, but this finish was just asking for accidents. Way too many turns in the last kilometers and even right before the finish are no longer acceptable. The ICL has sent us a message in the off-season regarding rider safety and "how they are looking out for us", but then come up with a finish like this... I am speechless. Normally, I should be racing in Portugal and Argentina in February, but at the moment I am not so sure whether I will. I am considering to strike, because the ICL has deeply disappointed me."
His younger teammate and potential future top sprinter Niemi also reacted: "I was shocked to see the images. This shouldn't be happening anymore. Crashes are a part of cycling and we all know that, but a finish like that is unforgivable. I hope the ICL takes the right measures as to evade this sort of thing happening again. I don't think a strike will do much good though. At the moment, I just hope everybody who crashed is doing okay."
Will be continued...
On a more serious note, thanks for the ranking update. Magnum doing good thanks to Nerz' great performance, but if we want to play a role in the promotion battle we'll have to start performing in one day races as well.
