Pretty uneventful Paris-Nice for us so far. Now we go into the hills though.

Congratz to jph27 - not the most logic results considering the uphill finish.

well last stage we got screwed by the finishing in the same time slot as the other riders and today we get lucky from just that, however in reverse action. Beautiful performance from Guardini I must say and Ponzi looking strong, but also using a lot of energy on these less important stages. Bring some stronger hills on!

Kinda lame result and also result for Bobridge. Hope he will be a little bit better from now on..
Phelan once again enjoying this early season stage race! Nice to see him taking the KoM lead, our second jersey here so far. Would be cool, if he keeps fighting for it. Pretty sure, he won the KoM price in T-A or P-N last year.

Nice to see Koretzky aggressive, and also getting some points for his efforts here.
Too bad, gaps is almost impossible to get in this PCM version, as TT's and mistakes plays a huge part now.
The upcoming stage is probably too difficult for Koretzky, but I sure hope he gives it a go... Also it would be nice to see Kastrantas in the break for some KOM fun. We have 3 riders within the top 10, but neither seems to really be interested.

Thought that stage was Oss' best chance at getting something from this race, but clearly not. Feels like a lot of luck involved looking at what riders decide to give it a go in such a finish and who that doesn't care. I mean, if Guardini can do that, surely most of the field can do more?
The puncheurs really need to make use of stage 5 to be able to create gaps that counts. If not, this will suddenly be Van Stayen's race to lose, assuming
Kemboi and Howard stand no chance on stage 5 whatever way it's raced. |

Great effort from Kek on that last sprint stage (missed the report until just now)! Results like that give us the slimmest hope of survival, if he can keep delivering them consistently across the season. And given his planning has him in various races like this, who knows?
I've just jinx'ed it all horribly now

Unfortunately no gaps there but wasn`t expecting to get any on this stage to be honest.
Seeing De Bie continueing to perform very well in stage races is nice to see and he was very active today and well prepared by the team from the beginning.
Hopefully he can keep this up on the harder stages where gaps will open surely. |

That stage did not make any sense at all.
But I like the punishment for the team to relay after fucking up the strategy yet again. And then they're not even around in the end for Cavagna to try to sprint.
Guys, yeah you're young, but your job here ain't done just because you got into the first break of the race!

That lone breakaway was really weird. Not sure why we choose to fight for an intermediate sprint with Svab instead of sending someone into the breakaway...

Buchmann with a great stage! Must have been a really good day for him This makes me feel he will be ready to be my number 1 puncheur next season with a bit of training

Was hoping for more of De Bie but he is still decently placed while Zardini performed nicely with his combo skills.
Hugenhaben really not very good but I just assume, he did "work" giving Zardini more of a free role. |

Phelan fighting for the KoM is nice. Also good to see our team present at the front, supporting Bobridge and finish with several riders in the first big group. Bobridge too passive for my liking though, hope we will at least show something in the next stage, before he hopefully gains some time in the short time trial. With Dennis still inside the Top-10, too, here's hoping for both to get us notable GC results eventually. Bobridge though must step up his game. The time loss was quite big here.

Obviously getting 1st would've been great, but considering the horrendous team effort to help Ponzi and Ponzi starting the climb in a bad position 2nd place is fine. The GC however looks to be gone, Ponzi's 68 TT vs Sicards 76 TT and we dont have much time to get a big enough lead. I could however be wrong and the Mountain stat might not be able to mean anything in the other stages.
Still a late attack in general and we should have enough energy in the bag to fight for the GC win. Ponzi is our ultimate mover in terms of us even having a remote chance of staying in the PT, so therefore getting no less than a win is what we must strive for and if not, then we should be very unhappy and fearful for the consequences

Amezawa! Crazy ride by him, especially seeing he was first dropped from the breakaway due to unlucky positioning. Had to laugh when he attacked again on the Mende climb, just very fun and encouraging to read.
Good to see the big guns get to decide the stage, and also forcing some time gaps. Still a passive stage, as SN tells in the report, and a rather surprising winner. The importance of the hill/mountain combination simply seems very important in this edition of PCM. Beltran will be greatly missed |

10th is OK from Koretzky on this stage. Fortunately a few gaps were created, but not enough for Koretzky to have a realistic shot at top 10 GC, which was indeed the goal!
He will need to be very aggressive on the upcoming stage, to avoid a further drop in the TT!

Valentin Madouas!
Loved to see him give it a go already, and he did make a smaller selection than his stats should've suggested.
If he can get into the mix one more time, he might even aim for the lower Top 10 of the KoM standings, but it was already good to see him display his skills even just once.
