England almost had the perfect game (score somehow and then rely on his strong defense), but Italy was a better team imo. looking from outside penalty choices weren't the best by England, with two players who didn't play at all (failed both).

If you had said at the start of the tournament that England would lose the final on penalties, I would have been delighted that we got that far.

However, it really was an opportunity missed in the final. Italy were on the rack in the first half. England should have pushed on and gone for the second. They should have gone to a back 4 and put someone like Sancho or Rashford on to play up against Benucchi and Chielini to stretch the game. They couldn't handle the pace, as shown by Chielini's almost GBH collar pull when Saka knocked the ball past him late on.

Southgate has got many things right during the tournament, but he got the final very wrong.

But well done to Italy. England had the youngest squad in the tournament and made it to the final. Hopefully this should develop into a team capable of regularly getting to the SF's and beyond over the next decade.
