Vichot, you beauty! Great win and a much needed one too.
Cattaneo still in contention is also promising. Looking forward to the next couple of stages where I'm sure we'll somehow manage to find a way to fail miserably |

Keizer...you suck...bad day for a -5 form...From top3-5 hope out of top10 in GC hurts.
Losing the KoM jersey as well suits perfectly. |

Fantastic ride by Ruijgh to win a stage with all those mythical climbs. With a bit of luck he might be able to finish in the top 15 here. That, or the KoM jersey would be great.
Great ride by Brambilla as well. A real shame he crashed yesterday, but I guess now he could go for a stage win as well.

Perfect ride by Phinney and the team did more then well enough to keep the stage together with a top rides from all burning Young and him abandoning is not ideal but he won't be needed I don't think the rest of the way the big doubt is tomorrow now as the hilly stages in california were mental so hopefully this one is nice and calm |

"Hey guys, I have a great idea! Why don't we send someone in the break?"
"Good idea! Shall we send one of our climbers? It's the mountainous queen stage after all..."
"Don't be stupid. They can still fight for a top 90 GC. Just send a useless cobbler into it"
"Okay. Go Olli!"
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Just caught up with the action...fantastic preview Croatia and four very nice reports already, thanks for your work!
Grosu with a very good showing so far, with two podiums in two "sprinter" stages, finally a show of his potential strenght and he needs that, when looking for a best offer in free agency soon.
Sosnitskiy at least tried in the break this time, that is our only chance for something here from now on. He sucked there, but at least he tried, it is very rare for us to see Metinvest colours in the break.
Congrats to all the stage winners!

Congrats to Ruijgh and alex; amazing win!
I'm afraid Madrazo's performance was not good enough. The stunt Velits pulled; that should have been Madrazo. Hope he improves.

When I saw Kastrantas in the break I immidiately thought "finally! The perfect rider for us to send in the perfect stage. Let's hope for a dull GC fight!"
And YES! A stagewin from one of my favorite riders in the team! And very important after seeing Novak underperform again...
Btw, there was a lot of fuss about riders like Nesset (23rd GC) losing 6 minutes. But no notice whatsoever about Piter Campero (18th GC) dropping a STAGGERING 12'30"!
That hurt Campero! That hurt! Learn from Ruijgh and Kastrantas and get your act together and give it a run for the money!

A much better stage by Keizer. Having big support in Bennett and Villella surely helped here. First also with a solid race in 16th GC right now, which is not that surprising seeing he also was stronger in the mountains than Keizer.
So 10th and 16th. This must be the least we want now in the end. |

Decent from Nesset on stage 4, doing his best, which means I can't ask for more. Fun to see Lund in the breakaway and even claiming some KoM points, that doesn't happend often, at all Congratulations on the stage win, alexkr00! And some KoM points as well, which I suspect could bode well for the final mountain stages. Also a surprisingly strong ride from Velits.
For stage 5, a pity to see Nesset forced to let go quite early and loose too much time, but hills will always be a significant weakness of him. Hopefully the time lost could give him some freedom in the mountains now, even trying to go with a breakaway or two. I'm not sure how a 77MO guy sitting 19th overall is underperforming, SotD, but Kastrantas win surely must make up for both that and Campero's time loss, the latter very natural to loose time due to his 70 hill. Congrats on the win!
And thank you for two very nice reports, Croatia14 |

Well he is not "JUST" a 77MO rider sitting in 19th. He is a 77MO and 76TT rider who ended up behind Teklehaimanot (74TT), Kruijswijk (73TT), Faiers (75TT), Shilov (73TT), Wohler (74TT), Wellens (72TT), Kunshin (71TT), Rosskopf (74TT), Herrada (72TT) and Craven (74TT) and ahead of NO ONE with stronger stats in the TT, and behind Dzhus (76MO), Kruijswijk (76MO), Barguil (77MO), Koch (77MO), Formolo (76MO), Grmay (77MO) and Kunshin (77MO) and only ahead of riders lost by splits or helpers for GC leaders - Such as Solis, Elissonde, Samwel, Pantano and Vysna.
In the hilly stage he lost time to Keizer (71HI), Faiers (71HI), Kudus (74HI), Teklehaimanot (74HI), Giorgieri (71HI), Grmay (74HI), Heider (72HI), Kozhatayev (73HI) and finished with riders such as Medvedev (64HI).
This from a rider who did this in the GC races so far:
58th Paris-Nice
107th Vuelta al PaĆs Vasco
27th Giro d'Italia
So, yes, I think it is fair to say that after a long TT, a mountain stage and a hilly stage that he is underperforming - Again... If he ends up in 19th after the race is over, then it's OK, but at this point he should do better, and then go down to ~17-20th in the GC imo in the end.
Campero was definately set for a time loss, yes, but 12'30"? That was not foreseen before the stage, which is also clearly indicated by the fact that Medvedev lost 5'30", Faiers lost 3'30", Cattaneo lost 4'00", Giogieri and Grmay lost 4'45" and so on and so on and so on... Penasa is the only GC competent rider that lost more time, and he must be injured for sure. The rider that lost most, besides Campero is Samwel who lost 9'30 (3 minutes less). He is also 70HI.
So just to clarify what I meant, the above is it.
BUT! YES, ofcourse Kastrantas' win is more important. MUCH more important! Those 40 points and a win from one of my favorite riders is prizeless, and in terms of points also better than what we could have expected from this race. We aimed for 125-150 points from this race in total, and we already have gained 88 before the GC points where a couple in the top 30 should do the rest...

congrats sotd, nice win for you and surely helps to score more in the double header as expected

Thanks mate. Yeah it definately helps, but I expected atleast 2nd in the opener, and I expected slightly better GC results in Tour de Suisse (23rd GC from Yuriy Vasyliv) and so far we aren't doing much better here. So what I lose in the GC's I gain in this stage win. But I'm still behind you in the total double header here
Congrats on Vosekalns also btw!

Very nice from Phinney again gaining a bit more time for his GC lead but the acid test is coming now it's going to take strong legs and some luck but I am hopeful just with the top performance he's put in so far |

Nice to see former Gazelle rider Kastrantas enjoy success! Congrats SotD!
Pretty gutted Madrazo managed to lose 20 seconds here though. The guy rarely fails hard, but he's very good at stringing together small fails.

That was painful to watch. Just pisses me off to see the peloton having full control, and then suddenly just toss it away.

Wow, what an exciting stage 4 and an amazing effort by both Velits and Giogieri! Too bad the result was not a stage win, but a 2nd and a huge move in GC rankings was almost a perfect thing to happen here. Surprisingly Velits continued with a strong ride even in the hilly stage in stage 5. Really, really happy with Becherovka boys in this race so far!
And big congrats to CT, alex and SotD! 3 really nice breakaways wins, always a happy moment for every manager. And also big thanks for these perfect reports, Croatia, definetely some fantastic reading!
