What extreme conditions are you referring to here? There were 7 degrees and cloudy at the finish line. Nibali is absolutely right in being angry at this decision and he is far from alone. Resorting to name calling the way Brammeier did, rather than making rational arguments is childish and downright disgusting and he should apologise. I have lost all respect for both him and Martin.

The jury made what, in hindsight, turned out to be a wrong decision and Nibali vented his disappointment. Brammeier's reaction is completely out of proportion

How hard can it be?

Thank god we always have the exact weather forecast for the next day and it`s never wrong.
Spoiler

Also there was snow and windy storms at the route. Organizers tried to find a new route. Police also called those too dangerous. Just saying, that at times it`s hard to make the ideal decision but then it should better not be the decision that might end in a bad way but better be the safety first decision. Happens everywhere. In sports, in daily work, everywhere.

Though in one points I partly agree. The organizers could have cancelled it a bit later. They really did it very early this time.

@alexkr00: As said, he might have been smarter to pick other words. But in the end it`s not about a third tier rider against a 1st tier rider. I mean you don`t win a GT by being a strong rider alone. You need those "third tier riders" to do so. And as I said before, no matter your palmares, they all take the same roads, same risks.

Well all this shows: Nibali is a true racer, Tony Martin is just good at time trialing. Brammeier I have never heard nor seen that guy.

In the end the climate change is also not stopping for outside sports. Hence there are more weather extremes and also the "winter" or better snow period more or less also moved back ~1month now clashing with lots of races.

I was not born last week, so i somewhat remember that snow in March (even more in higher places like French Alps) is pretty usual thing. But world is much more pussycat now and that is the problem, not extreme weather. Lot of snow in March is not extreme in any means. Wink

Edit: And there was not even lot of snow the day the stage should be ridden. Everyone is just afraid of something these days, even in sport made from suffering.

Exactly. There is hierarchy in the peloton, and that's understandable. Riders with a bigger palmares take up those top of the pyramid.
But when it comes to safety, hierarchy should go down the toilet.

Let's say it like that. Hinault won L-B-L in a crazy snow storm and lost the feeling in his fingers forever because of it. Now, maybe he doesn't mind so much given he did win LBL and so much more.
But what if he had just been a "lower" domestique? Is it worth numbing your fingers forever.
In the end, it's a job, and you have to do your best to limit risks in a job.

Can't judge this particular situation, don't know all the factors involved, but it's good at least someone's looking out for the riders' safety Wink

Like I said, my comment was not about the weather and the cancellation of the stage. Is the respect a rider like that Brammeier should show to a rider of Nibali's status. That tweet is totally out of line.

Oh yeah I certainly agree.
My comment on roturn's post had nothing to do with yours Smile

However, I don't think Brammeier should show respect because of Nibali's palmares, but simply on a basic human level. Wink

For some much needed clarrification. The orginal Tweet did NOT come from Nibali. His Astana team made comments that they could send him to the Tour instead of the Giro to give themselves and Nibali the best chance of results. Paolo Slongo is the outspoken one from Astana, Nibali retweeting his videos of the final climb.

Brammier replied to the CyclingNews twitter of the article, pretty damn certain he didn't read it! Saw the title and reacted instantly. Brammier has since retweeted and replied to several other cyclists who expressed positivity over safety regulations.

Conclusion: Way to blow things out of proportion without doing research Wink

You could say the same about Brammeier Wink

Brammeier made an idiot out of himself with that tweet unfortunately for him.

Nibali is making the situation escalate now, demanding that the Giro organisation promises to let the mountain stages happen or he'll go for Ardennes and le Tour instead.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Leaving the weather conditions aside, Brammeier is the moron here. A third tier rider should show way more respect than that to someone who has won all 3 Grand Tours.

Yeah he should of chosen his words better but what he said wasn't of the mark, also just because he's won 3 GT's isn't a reason to show him respect, this is the same Nibali who hung onto that team car at last years Vuelta after all which was a truly moronic act

How could RCS promise that, it's just not possible

Well, actually he just requests that they guarantee that there are decent plan B's available.

Dusen
I think it is only fair that RCS prepare "actual" plan B's. There is a lot of teams and riders, that are sacrificing a lot to arrive at the Giro in top shape.

So i agree with Nibali on that. But you can't demand that stages are to be riden, who knows what crazy weather there might be, but did he actually say that?

RCS are a bunch of goons anyway, remember Stelvio? Its good that Nibali puts some pressure on them.

Yeah.

Though when you say: remember Stelvio, I only think of Thomas De Gendt Cool Pfft
