Interesting gap there. Will be very interesting how the top Puncheurs can react on willunga. It looks good for Impey now...

Awesome to see our first ever sprint train! Due to our policy of signing no pure sprinters we never formed one before.
I think the team did a good job; controlled the race well and the strength of that train was impressive. Only criticism is that 1.7km might've been a bit too early to launch Pozzato. Especially with Impey directly on his wheel. On the other hand; if Impey would've launched first at for example 1.5km, Pozzato probably would not have been able to overtake him. Guess Impey was simply too strong today. Pozzato needs slightly harder terrain to beat him.
Maybe tomorrow...

This sounds quite weird. Why do you not want a pure sprinter?
You can`t have all the puncheurs only?
Seeing his performance here, it`s quite a pity that you did outbid me on Pozzato. Really could have needed his skills for my team as well.
Next stage should be up later today. Probably around 5pm German time and this rythm should go on for the rest of the race then. |

Really interesting to see PCM14 AI forming a sprint train of 4 riders from one team, that is a really good information for my hopes of forming a strong sprint train for a lot of races this season.
Interesting result, Pozzato is now in a superb position for the overall win. Thanks for the report, roturn.

Impey did a great job there - he has experience of this race and is a great hilly sprinter. It is the irony of having the better sprint train working against Gazelle. Still they had a good day and will be all over this race like a rash.
The time gap for the front three is really useful and if Impey can keep gaining bonification I think we have our wiener.

It's basically one of the founding principles of the team. Instead of giving the team character by limiting the nationality of riders, I limited the type of riders we go for.
The founding 'manifesto' is still in the opening post of my HQ, if you're interested. So far we only broke it twice, by signing boring time-trial guys Goddaert and Gretsch.

You were a good sport in our battle for his signature, again thanks for that.
He would've been a good addition to your team indeed. If you had signed Pozzato, would that have interfered with getting Groenewegen or Aru?
I do think that with Aegon he would've missed the support of guys like Oss and Nardin for the hilly sprint races though. So from Pozzato's own perspective he probably made the right choice.

A pretty meh 12th place by Mezgec but at least Simon stayed in the peleton so I can't complain |

Haha, yeah he'll be hard to beat. My hope is that in the hilly stages Pozzato can hang on to the big guns and Impey can't.

Interesting then with your terrain focussed riders.
Groenewegen was always no.1 priority. It would have been Pozzato instead of Aru. So I decided against a puncheur and for a co-leader in mountain races.
And I think my 75 puncheurs would have been good enough support for Pozzo. |

After having invested so much in Keizer, you probably made a good choice to give him excellent support with the addition of Aru. Also, Aru will not decline after the season.
And don't get me wrong: your hilly support is fine. I was specifically talking about hilly-sprint support. By which I mean to have some other hilly sprinters, who can help with positioning in the final kilometres of races like today.
With 78 FL, 74 HI and 74 SP/ACC, Oss is the perfect lead-out for Pozzato, because he's basically the same rider, only worse.

Good result by Meyer, makes me optimistic for the coming stages. A pity that he missed out on the bonus seconds though..

Good to see Matysiak up there again, though I think this race isn't hard enough for high hill Stat guys :/

Smukulis with another late attack
I would really love to see Geschke participating in a sprint. Perhaps on the next stage then?

Pozzo, wtf mate?! Shame the huge weight of his balls slowed him down on the hill at the end there.
I don't care he probably would've won if he waited for the normal sprint; that was awesome! Gazelle is about exciting cycling and Pozzato is delivering.
Now we defend that jersey. Challenge accepted.

Man a lot of Pozzoto love here - the guy majorly screwed up his sums there the strongest guy loses to the smart one Ventoso - who is a bit of a bugger for these sorts of hill/sprint stage races having one the Tour of Blighty (Like Tour Down Under but with worse teeth) in the past.
What happened to the Wiener? Very poor from the Saffer there - he could slip out if contention without the golden fleece. Now we have the curly haired muppet as leader ffs.
Hey DD - you sure you don't have these Gazelles Gelded for extra quickness?

Really pleased with that first stage. Great sprint from Impey and that gap to the puncheurs makes it twice as good. If he can get one more win or even two on the flat stages I think he can win. Not a great performance on stage 2 but 1/2 wins is fine. |
