Bancolombia - a new Continental Team
redrobert
Vuelta Mexico

The first stage is a flat one, and we wanted Castaneto to fight for the stage, so our team was engaged in getting the breakaway back ... we did succeed but it was close.

In the sprint Castaneto was good but not good enough ... 5th. A block i the sprint and too late release were the reasons probably.

This looks like maybe the hardest stage. We plan to attack here with Rujano

Unfortunately although our team did make a great amount of work, we were not allowed to send Lature on his way and Rujano was not able to crack the other riders either. All in all although we had lots of riders up in the first group this was a disapointing stage.

imageshack.com/a/img910/2236/pac5eb.jpg
Haugaard Jensen again won this stage and looks like a strong opponent.

another hilly stage

Well we achieved sending Lature in the breakaway this time he did not make it to the end though. Rujano tried everything but it is more and more clear he is not made for the Vuelta Mexico, i should have sent a greater hilly specialist. He was able to stay within the top group of 9 riders so Top 10 is almost asured, but that has not been our goal. Lature took over KOM jersey from Rujano.

Another flat stage, but the steep uphill finish is not made for sprinters.

We tried to make something happen with Ardila Cano .. but it didn't work, none of our riders had great daily form either, at least Rujano did not lose time as there was a late split and he was in the first group

Another flat stage for the sprinters. Four mountains may be something for the KOM jersey.

We sent Lature on the breakaway to secure his KOM jersey. No other rider wanted to go with him so he was all alone. That might have decided the outcome as he was not able to hold on to a 12 minute lead and was caught with 8 kilmotres to go

imageshack.com/a/img903/3266/z0Lhh6.jpg
Kevin Peters won the sprint. Pinheiro had his wheel for the whole sprint but just couldn't even try to overtake. With his third place Haugaard Jensen took back the GC lead by 1 ssecond. Castaneto with his best sprint so far finising 4th.

Vuelta Mexico

It is time for the Time Trial. Our luck is that no great Time Trialists are taking part in the Vuelta Mexico. Still we had some serious concerns. What shall i say .. we did a great TT for our standards finishing 5th, 6th, 7th ... and one of those has been Jose Rujano. Sondre Holst Enger did take himself out of the GC race as he had great problems with his bicycle and lost over 6 minutes.

Rujano moved up to 3rd with this TT and only has 18 seconds deficit. He may try to get those seconds tomorrow in the last stage. For Enger the TT is really a shame, he has been so good the whole tour and now this.

final stage ... is Rujano able to do something?

He definetly tried it ... but Messino was able to keep up to him. So nothing really changed in the GC. Rujano at least got on the podium thanks to a surprisingly good TT. All in All a disastrous Tour though we exepcted far more. Part of this is of course my fault as i should have sent a real hill specialist.

imageshack.com/a/img540/4112/W9b78q.jpg
The breakaway has won the stage. We had to send Lature with the breakaway as the 3rd of the KOM classement Ockerby was part of it too.

Apart from Rujano podium we also won KOM jersey and the Team result.

Tour International de Blida

This is a 3-day tour with a lot of high mountains. A very nice tour for our taste. Our team here:

Leader: Rujano
Free Element: Melendez
Team Mate: Lature, Cano Ardila, Nino Corredor, Alcolea, Becerra

The fitness of Rujano is decreasing, we hope it is enough for a good result.

We have a far bigger field than in Mexico although not the biggest names here either. Known names include:

Downing, Diaz, Guama

The easiest stage, maybe a sprinter can win here if he has the hills in his repertoire. As we didn't bring a sprinter we probably have to attack on the hills.

Hyeong Min Choe has been the breakaway of the day. On the Cat.1 Mountain Lature tried to attack out of the peloton and reach him. He did not achieve it and gave everything to stay in front of the peloton. On the final kilometres Melendez tried to attack too but was caught in the last kilometre same as Lature.

Lature did at least manage to hold on to a podium. The young one is having a nice season so far.

An interesting stage that's for sure. Nothing for flat specialists

imageshack.com/a/img538/3453/EOvRvX.jpg
Allready on the first mountain Becerra set a pace that dropped everyone save Rujano and his shadow Melendez.

Soon Rujano dropped his companions and at most had 3:30 advantag. But then he ran too soon out of energy and downhill his his weak points. Guama attacked from the peloton and closed the gap further and further, but he ran out of energy too in the end.

Gran Premio San Giuseppe

We take part in this classic with a team without great stars. Our stars are more for the high mountains. And our best hilly specialists are currently not in race shape.

Leader: Cesar Augusto Lature
Free Element: Alex Cano Ardila
Teammates: Montana, Nino Corredor, Becerra, Parra

Yes Cesar Augusto Lature is our leader, her earned that position due to his great rides in the last weeks. We believe it will be hard for him to have a good result but he has the confidence.

imageshack.com/a/img540/4124/IDfc12.jpg
This has been an interesting race. We sent Alex Cano Ardila in the breakaway. When it was clear they would be caught Lature tried his attack. He was blocked in three attempts and the peloton did not let him away. Time for Plan C ... Nino Corredor was ordered to attack on the foot of the last Hill. And he did get away.

Soon after one of the Stars of the race attacked - Emanuelle Sella and caught up easily with Corredor. As soon as he saw Sella going away an allready tired Lature tried one more attack. It seems the peloton and the other teams were totally spent from his former attacks as he finally got away

imageshack.com/a/img537/6931/JBrvs9.jpg
Emanuele Sella has been the strongest rider today and wins it. Biggest surprise is Nino Corredor acheiving 2nd place. Lature also got a nice position in the end but he is swearing over Team Bardiani Valvole who blocked so many of his attacks.

Volta ao Alentejo

The Volta ao Alentejo is up next. A few stages for sprinters and two small hill finishes. Let's see if we can achieve a nice result here.

Our team is similar to the GP San Giuseppe - no top stars but a core of solid guys.

Leader: Cesar Augusto Lature
Sprinter: Rivas, Castaneto
Teammates: Cano Ardila, Nino Corredor, Becerra

Lature again gets the honour of leading our team. This time we come with a double sprinter team.

imageshack.com/a/img661/4774/g3j8wj.jpg
This one is the hardest stage, so we need to give it all here. Lature is the captain and he sent first Becerra in a breakaway, but the peloton did not allow it and even though he went on full cylinders he could not stay up front. Probably his venezuela champion trikot was giving him too much attention.

Soon after Lature sent Nino Corredor in a breakaway, and this breakaway was allowed. But at the summit of the first hill they have been caught.

imageshack.com/a/img537/4515/ouVdfA.jpg
Cesar Augusto Lature now decided it was time to go. Mannion could stay with him for about 500 metres before falling back. Unfortunately Lature pressed to hard on the downhill before the final climb and wa out of energy the last two kilometres when other favourites attacked out of the peloton

imageshack.com/a/img540/3894/VkLvE4.jpg
But he held on ... saving 11 seconds to the finish in front of Enger. Becerra was able to stay with the first pursuviants. Lature leads GC, points, KOM, young and with the team also team classement. Great stage for us.

Volta ao Alentejo

imageshack.com/a/img907/9643/a9nrHt.jpg
Even though there is a little uphill in the end we expect a sprint finish here. With the yellow jersey our team has to work the whole day though.

imageshack.com/a/img537/1807/UnuL2s.jpg
We had to work a lot indeed to bring back the breakaway, in the sprint Cardoso won in front of Cardoso. Schumacher got some bonus seconds and Rivas finished a strong 4th

imageshack.com/a/img537/8156/j6aJhF.jpg

redrobert
I do not know why, but exporting doesn't seem to work any longer.

Well in Alentejo we had two more sprints. In the first our team did a poor job and Schumache with a 2nd place came really close to Lature.

The 2nd one Castaneda won by going away 1 km in front of the line and he held on against Enger who got also very close to Lature

So for the final stage it is a three-way fight between Enger, Schumacher and Lature

redrobert
The Tour is won by Enger 1 second ahead of Lature and 2 seconds ahead of Schumacher

with exports not working anymore i am a little out of motivation currently though

Continental Tour: José Rujano (215 Points)
Mondial Points: Marcel Kittel (952 Points)

The fight is up now

Our races in april:
Circuit Cycliste Sarthe
Classica Amorebieta
paris-Camembert
Campeonato Colombia (ITT and RR)
Tro-Bro Leon
Le Tour de Filipinas
Gran Premio del Marmo
Tour of the Gila

That's a lot of races, unfortunately most don't suit us too well but are asked by the sponsor. Our weight will be in the colombian championships of course

Circuit Cycliste Sarthe

This stage race is wanted by our sponsor, so we have to participate although we do not think it suits us good. Lots of flat stages, a Time Trial and one hilly stage. The hilly stage is key to winning it together with a good TT.

Our team consists of

Leader: Melendez
Sprinter: Rivas
Other: Cano Ardila, Lature, Becerra
