Well, I think the Bunzl manager's drunk. Why send me as the leader in a race with no TTs? That's a long way to travel for an anonymous 11th place.

Tour Down Under Stage 1 1.1 - The Beginning
"Let's go Fellas! It's 7AM Race day morning! Time to wake up! This is an historical day in the PCM Cycling League!"
I just love this. I can't believe I was starting a cycling league. The teams were up, and already chattering downstairs in the hotel lobby. Cereal and Milk was the breakfast today, and some teams were chatting with others, while some were noticeable keeping to themselves. The stage favorites for the day were 547984 and jseadog1 of Citigroup. They look like they came here to win. They were eating with Team Subway, but I couldn't hear what they were saying. I know New Belgium was also strategy talking, but they were keeping quiet to themselves.
After breakfast the teams began preparing for the race. It was very hot outside, I felt bad for the riders and what they were going to have to go through today. Alot of the team captains were not riding in the race, but they were here, somewhere along the starting line. Riders were getting anxious hoping to make history as the first ever stage winner, but also not wanting to be the first dropout of the year.
That about does it for the morning. The race is about to start. I am getting excited!
-~-~-~-~-~
The race finally started! It was finally time for the riders to show that they truly are the best!
From the start of the race there was plenty of breakaway attempts, all failing. It took about 20 kilometers before there were riders in shape enough to actually pull away from the main group. There were also plenty of riders struggling to keep up, but they found a way.
Farmer Sam, Cristi M, and 9-Ball finally escaped from the main field, and just in time to battle within themselves for the first sprint of the day:
It was Farmer Sam taking the points! The break actually was impressive early on, they had a 3:50 lead with 75KM to go. The peleton was very slow moving and uneventful throughout the course of the day. It was Bunzl, Citigroup, and New Belgium taking command of the front of the peleton for nearly the entire race. The 3 riders pacing for each team were Blueprint, Mr_Monk, and FugslangxTH3 respectively.
Still not much happening in the race. The peleton is calm and there was no nerves anymore, just smooth sailing to the finish. 4:00 separated the break and the main field with 50km to go. Of course, reports from the break were that they were positive that they would stay away and win, but they were over excited. The peleton eventually started speeding up to the break. Blueprint & Mr_Monk are doing most of the peleton pacing.
Noticeable, Team Spotify had all of their riders in the back of the peleton, but nobody is sure why that was.
With just 30km to go, its a 2:00 for the lead. Will it stick? JuanMotr has come up front to do the pacing for New Belgium, and he really picked up the pace. As you can see to the right in the below picture, Red Rooster is beginning to creep up.
As we are approaching the 15KM mark, as well as the lone climb of the day, it looks as if the break is out of juice. You can see below the gap that is barely visible now is about to be 0.
Now is the point where things are starting to heat up! The break has been caught, and its like a frantic panic is breaking out in the group. The hill has riders dropping, riders alone with no teammates, and those that just want to win and are attacking whenever they want.
Christer has launched an attack, and 547984 the stage favorite is following him up the climb! As we crest the climb, the two have formed a mini break at 10KM to go. Farmer Sam gets over the top in 3rd before the pack swallows him. We also have our first bad luck story, as Jacky Durand, who had been up front all day, got a flat.
The below picture shows the gap at 5KM to go, not bad, but definitely can be made up by the field.
We are seeing riders coming from nowhere, sprinting with almost no sprint trains at all organized. Its every man for himself in the first stage in history. We are less than 1KM left, and 547984 has just been reeled in by the main group, BUT WAIT!!
Christer is still ahead, there is no catching him, he has done it! The uphill surge to win the mountain sprint has turned into the stage win! What a start in the career of Christer and Bunzl cycling who was up front all day ready to win.
It is a magnificent day for Christer, who technically has 3 JERSEYS!! 9-Ball takes the white.

It was a great and unpredictable start to the season. It looks like teams have alot of work to do with the amount of unorganization there was at the end of this one. With another 100M, I am almost certain Roman would have won. Favorite sprinter jseadog1 had no help, and started too late in the sprint. It will be interesting to see what Christer can do the rest of the race, and what the hotel atmosphere will be like tonight into tomorrow's second stage! I am already excited for the next stage!

That's one for the mighty Bunzl already.
I was too busy trying to get a freebie from the Cadbury team car with no luck. I'll try Subway tomorrow. Who doesn't like a good footlong inside them during a cycling race?

Where'd you find that? It looks eerily familiar.
