@Pelli: thanks, i hope he will be able to help Popo in his targeted mountain races.
PT wildcards allocated, Giro here we come !
We made it! In the third year of existence of Metinvest project, we were awarded a GT wildcard, for Giro d'Italia.
Giro was our main wildcard goal for year 2014, as Italy is very important region for Metinvest-Emirates team, especially for italian sponsor Gruppo Lucchini. The race should give us prestige and experience, mainly to our young prospects. Team Kenya-Airways will ride the Giro with us as second wildcard team, so we hope we can make the PCT proud together.
Expected leaders: Mikhail Ignatiev, Jaroslav Popovych, Nolan Hoffman
To our big pleasure, Giro was not only PT wildcard allocated to Metinvest-Emirates for 2014 season.
After last year’s experience with TTT race Copenhagen-Malmo, our time-trialing PCT rival Oz was given a chance for this race and Metinvest should be on the start of individual time-trial test, called Chrono des Herbiers. We feel that Mikhail Ignatiev has a chance to show that he is one of the best TTists worldwide, right after beasts like Phinney, Coppel and Cancellara.
Expected leaders: Mikhail Ignatiev, Haijun Ma
Last of our three allocated wildcards is probably most surprising, as we will be going to Spain for Volta a Catalunya. Metinvest-Emirates cycling team is international project and our fans from South Europe surely cant wait to see us in action in this beautiful PT stage race. This february clash should be decided mainly in three hilly stages and tough hilly TT, that should be very suitable route for our new Russian superstar.
Expected leaders: Mikhail Ignatiev, Frantisek Rabon

I was really happy when I saw you and FroomeDog got Giro wildcards. You're capable of sending a really strong squad and Popo should do really well in the GC. Ignatiev is also a beast and then there's Hoffman.. Who knows what can happen!
It's going to be really cool seeing Africa represented through Hoffman and the whole Kenya team. Good luck

Now the question is, wether you will do better than Oz in Herbiers (3rd last year) or Oz will do better than you in Copenhagen (8th?) cool wildcards for your team, especially looking forward to the Giroand what Popo still has in his tank on PT-level!

I'll see you at the Giro! Hopefully both of us can come away with a good result somewhere, you should have no trouble I guess with Ignatiev, Popovych and Hoffman. I can see Metinvest taking a couple of stages
Good luck in Catalunya and Herbiers as well, you should have a good chance in both of those. |

Thanks guys. These wildcards are great opportunity and stage-win or decent GC in any of these races would be huge for Metinvest, fingers crossed.
I love wildcard system. Not that it only creates more motivation for whole team, but it also helps to earn nice XPs (and i was always fan of RPGs).

Unlike majority of cycling teams, Metinvest stayed active on the transfer market in its closing days. After some failed negotiations with higher profiled riders, we decided to build for the future and landed no less than three prospects, including one of the most promising riders of his category. Who are they?
Julian Alaphilippe is coming to our team with cyclocross background and we hope this signing can prove as important in the future. Julian seems to posses great all-around skills and our scouts see him as fast finishing puncheur. After several evaluations, Julian will ride in year 2014 on loan in Team Nordeus, which is project that has our admiration. CT level should be great place to start to build from. Note that Julian is first frenchman ever signed by Metinvest.
XP: 2.00
Wage: 120,000
Mike Aaron Egger replaces his older compatriot Sebastian Lang as only german in Metinvest-Emirates team. Unlike Lang, Mike is rather a climbing type of rider, with good lead he can become very important part of our squad.
XP: 3.04
Wage: 60,000
Emils Liepins Emils is second rider from Latvia coming to Metinvest during this transfer season. He is similar type like Smirnovs, he feels best in mass sprints. Emils was signed as stagiare, which means he will only be available from August. We will surely find a place for him in autumn races, so his potential can be tested.
XP: 1.00
Wage: 10,000 - Stagiare

Will barely meet Popovych and got a few Ignatiev free races, so I call that a success - unfortunately he's in 3/4 goals though
Interested to see how Hoffman does, racing a similar calendar to Haussler in parts I see. |

Yeah, all fear the doombringer Hoffman! (who will do shit this year with like 20riders better than him in both flat and hillier races).
@fintas: I am looking forward to Popo-Karpets battles (for 5th place behind all the better climbers)
@jph: We hope Ignatiev will be a nightmare for all the children in Sri-Lanka (not because he is psycho-the-rapist, but because he will kick ass of their local team).

It seems you are going to have a well-rounded squad in the Giro. I'm sincerely hoping you don't end up stealing any of the points I need there

That is always a hard part of a wildcard (wow that rhyme).
On the one side, i surely want to do great and show the big boys that we are not so far behind them and on the other side i dont want to ruin the race for my dear PT managers.
Anyway, when you started the topic, here are the squads for our PT wildcards, so you know already who to fear, or who to laugh at.
Chrono des Herbiers
Mikhail Ignatiev
Marlen Zmorka
Haijun Ma
Volta Ciclista a Catalunya
Mikhail Ignatiev
Vitaliy Popkov
Marlen Zmorka
Denys Karnulin
Anytoliy Pakthusov

Oh and I forgot to mention that I think Ignatiev should do brilliantly at Catalunya. I like that you've managed to send a few Ukrainians there and to the Giro - it really is in keeping with your team's purpose.
