If it happens, can I quote this post for it?
It just can't happen. With the amount of drugs he would need in his body he'd be considered a walking (cycling) chemical weapon and he'd be taken by the CIA before he made it to the finish line.
The same CIA that has reportedly been sourcing coke into the americans?
What do you think they'd take him for?
To produce Froome into coke? |

Very happy that there are consecutive finishes in Nancy, Gerardmer and Mulhouse, and on a weekend as well!
All tbose cities are roughly 2 hours from where I live, and this sounds like the perfect opportunity for my first Tour stage since 2005, and even 3 in a row

You bloody can't. It's never going to happen again (hopefully), otherwise it'll be an incredibly bad sign.
When Riis did his performance there, maybe you weren't born, but I remember it quite well (although I was at a Summer camp nearby in the Pyrénées, so I only watched it days later). The stage had been shortened because some roads couldn't be used earlier in the stage, so it all ended in a Vuelta style mountain top finish.
Though, even if the climb was used for a mountain ITT nowadays, I doubt the winner of the stage would come anywhere close to the top 10 of 1996.
That was just beyond words (Riis was using his big ring near the finish - I paid a tribute to him years later, for the lulz of it). |

485 standardized Watts (6,9 W/kg !!!). Riis climbed like 3 or 4 minutes faster than they did in 2008 (I provided a link a couple of days ago), on a 35 minutes effort. And I'm sure he could have been even faster, he "lost" some time circling around his opponents to check them all one by one before launching his attack once they had dealt with the 11 % km that happens after about 2/3 of the climb.
Nowadays you could expect a 6,0 W/kg figure for the best riders on a normal mountain stage there, and maybe 6,3 if it was a TT. That's 10 or 15 % of power less than Riis. 10 and 15 % difference is probably as much as between a GT winner and a rider competing for a top 20.
This is not even a caricature, that just shows what EPO + short stage does (did ?). |

Okay, thanks.
That can't happen then. If it does tough, I'll swear to god, I'll laugh for minutes long and then cry for days. |

In short, it was pretty awesome |

Tell me if I'm wrong, but I heard Quintana wants to race the Giro, not the Tour? |

If so, I guess he has changed his mind today

My bad, I got my facts confused, I thought that was the shortened stage, but it was not. It was still mostly flat (no mountains pass, only some minor hills) before Hautacam.
Here's a summary (really starts after 3 minutes or so) :

Yep, you confused it with the stage to Sestriere, which was another great show of hematologic skills.

Yep. To my defence I wasn't home past stage 3 until 2 days or so after the last stage, so I couldn't enjoy the EPO feast that year.
I saw brief footages the next days, but mostly saw the Tour 1996 VHS almost two years later (and I believe never since then).
What I find really strange when I watch these "old" mountain stages is how slowly all riders pedalled in mountains before Armstrong. 70 or 75 RPM perhaps. Even "true" climbers, which is even more disturbing.
When Berzin blows, or when Ullrich is pacing the group it's blatant.
I thought Riis attacked later than that, but he did it before the strongest slopes (which are more or less before the end of the forest bit, from memory). |

The route is quite good but it's criminal to not include Galibier and Aubisque!! 2 years without them! They are Tour de France classics and they must be every year in it. Of course, Tourmalet, too...
Why? So we can get even more sick of them than we already are?
You can never be sick of them... Nothing to say about the same route with Peyresourde and Val-Louron like the last year... I don't understand you...

I was obviously joking isso
Anyway I'm particularly looking forward to the Belles Filles stage. It seems well constructed and the climb provided fireworks last time and this time without Wiggins competing it might be even more interesting. I know it isn't the hardest but it is still a really nice climb I feel.

An even better question: if Froome punctures and looses 5 minutes in the cobbled stage what will happen?
Celebration time.
He would still win the GC though...
I like the route, cobbles especially. To be a worthy GT winner in my eyes, you have to handle everything with your team helping (something why Schleck never will be worthy).

Why? Quintana has nothing to gain from stage like this.
But it will be definitely a really exciting stage, imagine the 2013 crosswind stage with multiplied splits and cobbles. Any big crash/puncture may be crucial if you don't stay in front of peleton (and, as we know, everybody wanting to stay in front leads to more crashes)
Yep, i am looking forward to that. I expect Cannondale and few others like Saxo setting massive tempo there, should be fun.

Don't worry, everyone thinks you're completely insane.
One of the coolest things about cycling is having different routes every year. Having the same climbs would be extremely boring.
Completely insane... I can't stop laughing...
I'm with you: You can make different routes but at least you can make them passing through these climbs. I have climbed in real life Tourmalet and Aubisque and they are amazing, fantastic... I always miss them when they aren't in the route. You can never be bored of seeing the Tour passing through Tourmalet, Aubisque and Galibier...
But this is my opinion and I'm not insane...
