Pellizotti will have to start showing his class before it gets too late |

Hesjedal looks very strong , maybe too early... Pellizotti should try to stay with the guys and spare some energy for 2nd week and 3rd week where some of these riders might be tired but it´s always a risk..

Might have to throw caution to the wind, and go on the offensive with Pellizotti later in the Giro, depending on position. Plan for the time being is to stay with the favourites, and hope that those above him in GC will start working for their leaders and lose time.
Next group of stages are to be uploaded today. Going to change my reporting style, showing the key action as opposed to constant updates. If it goes down well, then I will put into my Rapha story when that gets going (cheap plug of my main story )
Feedback on the new reporting style would be welcomed when I do them

Giro d'Italia Stage 5 - Cosenza to Matera
After a small taste of the mountains, the peleton heads back towards the flatter stages for Stage 5, but it will not be as simple as many of the GC men will make out. With a difficult undulating finish to the route, this is not necessarily a day for the sprinters.
Simon Gerrans (Orica - GreenEdge)
Carlos Betancur (AG2R La Mondiale)
Mark Cavendish (OmegaPharma - QuickStep)
André Griepel (Lotto - Belisol)
John Degenkolb (Argos - Shimano)
Eventhough Gavazzi is own main man for the sprints, the hilly finale could mean that we work for either Felline or Frapporti at the finish. After a difficult first week, with little success from the breaks, the team will most likely take a little easier today.
The day's break was made up of just 3 riders, with Grégory Rast (RLT), Pierpaolo De Negri (VIN) and Jos van Emden (BEL) all present.
Mountain Sprint
1. De Negri / 2. van Emden / 3. Rast
Intermediate Sprint
1. Rast / 2. van Emden / 3. De Negri
The work was left to Garmin yet again, as it was their Maglia Rosa to look after. With a difficult finish ahead, none of the sprinters teams really wanted to over do it.
Mountain Sprint
1. De Negri / 2. Rast / 3. van Emden
The break just had enough to hold on over the top of the final KoM sprint of the day, and with 6km to go, attacks began to happen, with Carlos Betancur (ALM), Rui Costa (MOV), followed by Franco Pellizotti and Samuel Sanchez (EUS) all going off the front.
Approaching the finish, the group had a 55" gap over the peleton. Clearly, the other GC did not see this being so successful.
And the victory goes to Costa! The Movistar man times it perfectly, to finish ahead of Betancur in second and Pellizotti comes home a fantastic third!
Forgot to export the results, so these are very limited. Sorry about that!

@tomc: thanks for the feedback! The new style was much more easier to write and less time consuming! I think I might reduce the size of the results / classifications tables (like what I had to do after forgetting to export the results. Just concentrate on the Top 5 plus my guys like I have done in my older stories

Giro d'Italia Stage 6
Mola di Bari to Margherita di Savoia
A flat stage greets the riders for stage 6 of this year's Giro d'Italia. With nothing on offer for the breakaway other than a single intermediate sprint, it will mostly likely be time for the sprinters to show what they can do.
Mark Cavendish (OmegaPharma - QuickStep)
André Greipel (Lotto - Belisol)
Matt Goss (Orica - GreenEdge)
Elia Viviani (Cannondale Pro Cycling)
Marcel Kittel (Argos - Shimano)
Flat stage so it will all be Gavazzi. He was a close second on the first stage in Napoli, so we can only hope that he can go one better today.
For the second stage running, it was just a break of three riders that got away at the beginning of the stage. Andrea Palini (LAM), Angelo Pagani (BAR) and Daniele Ratto (CAN) meant it was an all-italian break for the day.
Numerous sprinter's teams took control of the pace setting, and were happy enough to let the lead grow to over 6'44".
Intermediate Sprint
1. Palini / 2. Ratto / 3. Pagani
For such a simple stage, this was one messy sprint! OmegaPharma lost complete control early on, leaving Cavendish stranded in no mans land with 3km to go, and as Argos and Orica came to the front, everyone else organisation was nil. Frapporti was the only one of our guys who could find his way out of the mess, but he had done too much for Gavazzi, who nowhere to be seen.
Australia's Matt Goss (OCE) takes a fine victory, easily out pacing Kittel (ARG) in the final sprint. Biggest surprise was Pellizotti taking 5th, whilst Carlos Betancur (ALM) took 6th.

*New* Stage Debrief *New*
Well that didn't really go to plan... Gavazzi was swamped, and Felline just couldn't do enough to either help him out or take over his role as main sprinter. The stage seemed to catch a lot of guys out though. Where was Cavendish? This stage was tailor-made for him!
Hats off to Franco though with that 5th place. He had been feeling quite sluggish with his legs in the mountains, so the order was for him to just give them a stretch at the end to stay near the front. The result was just a bonus from him.

Thanks guys! I really hope that you are liking the new reporting style. If not, please let me know
@emre: done
@teamsky: Unexpected me as well. He was only meant to ride near the front, and sprint to prevent any splits and time losses. 5th place came from nowhere!
