@sutty68 - He's a good start but trust me it isn't all plain sailing for him.
@anyone - I am attempting to put up the White Jersey rankings via the Export method..however in the excel sheet I can't seem to sort them by General Time...anyone know how I do this? (Again updating story late is doing me no favours)
TDF STAGE 4
The team trial forms the 4th stage of this year’s Tour De France. 23.5 km’s long with a very small rise in terrain heading towards the intermediate checkpoint, it is not the most demanding but it does give an opportunity main contenders to gain some valuable seconds.
Sky are rightly the favourites but ourselves and Radioshack will fancy challenging them for the victory.
The SKY train just after setting off, led by Bradley Wiggins…a scary sight if ever there is one!!
It was a tough day today for the whole team, with 4 of our 5 best TT suffering from poor form. Tony Martin eventually helped drag them across the finish line….the time….29min 30.
Only good enough for 3rd as it stood…behind both Radioshack and Garmin… and with times including SKY still to come.
Team SKY wrap it up…the definition of perfect, here is the SKY train with a stunning backdrop! Their time, 28 min 50…domination is the word your looking for!
Well that was an ok result given the extreme lack of form shown by the team on the day. We lose a few seconds to the GC contenders but given our chase is the White Jersey we can look past that. With a gain of 17 seconds & 16 seconds over Sagan & Pinot respectively it’s been a decent day for Michal.
@sutty68 Ah ok got you, yeh to be honest it could have been a lot worse; I have Tony Martin to thank for that...he has been a huge member of the team and has in many ways carried us so far..as you'll see in coming stages..the concern is, if he burns out we could be in serious trouble!
@sutty68 - He is incredible, it has been hard to use him sparingly to be honest because every other day I seem to have 2 climbers without form so Martin has to help out longer than I otherwise would let him. Going to be a tough final 17 stages I can tell you that much!
TDF STAGE 5
With just four small categorised climbs this is by no means the toughest day of the tour and the likelihood is a spring finish for the Green Jersey contenders. However with its 228km route it may be a chance for a breakaway victory if a few people attack from far out.
The peleton stays together through the first 20km but then a group of 4 attack on the way up the first climb. Roulston (RLT),Tuft (OGE) , Paolini (KAT) and Gaudin (EUC) breakaway yet the lead is only at 36 seconds thanks to a furious pace in the peloton.
As the pace drops the breakaway’s lead moves to over 3 & a half minutes; We relax near the front of the peloton…Argos Shimano look set to take on the chasing today given Kittel is almost 50 points down on Cavendish in the Green Jersey race.
It’s the breakaway who will take the first 4 positions at the intermediate sprint point, but with maximum 11 still available to the next person across the sprinters have their teams organise the train… Greipel goes early…Cav too late and it’s Kittel who benefits, 11 points for him, 10 for Greipel and 9 for Cav.
With 50km left in the race the breakaways lead has been whittled down to less than 3 minutes. Here they are within striking distance of a peloton being paced by SKY and Omega.
Geraint Thomas suffers a puncture…with 40km will he catch back up.
The lead down to a minute as the peloton reaches the final climb….and Michal attacks out of the group…what’s going on here…
Nothing, once again Michal is testing the water…shortly after the attack he catches the breakaway and then sits back and awaits the peloton…
With 1.5km to go, Lotto & Argos have failed miserably to set up any kind of train. Cav is being led out by Trentin with Coquard (EUC) and Goss (OGE) catching the wheel of the Brit…
Demare (FDJ) takes the victory…followed by Goss in 2nd and Hutarovich (ALM) 3rd.
Cavendish can only take 5th place after his own teammate blocked his sprint! Shocking stuff from Trentin who will face the full wrath of the Manx-Missile after that.

Meanwhile in the Points Classification it looks like a straight fight between Goss and Cavendish now…with Greipel and Kittel a massive 64 points down.
No change in the Young Riders classification…Sagan still leading the way!
@sutty68 - No falls or injuries as yet! Let's keep our fingers crossed.
@czeslawkamil - Thank you for the good luck wish...hope you enjoy this story.
Apologies for the lack of pictures with this one everyone; I could have sworn I had taken screen shots, yet cannot for the life of me seem to find them on my computer. Stage 7 onwards will be back to normal.
TDF STAGE 6
The race continues westwards through the South of France, finishing out the day in Montpellier. A flat stage with just a couple of small inclines this one is perfectly set out for the sprinters to contest. Cav will be looking for a stage win following the disappointment of yesterday’s finish.
A massive 45 points will be on offer for the winner, a collection of points which both KitteL and Greipel need if they are to have any chance of dragging themselves back into the hunt for Green.
An attack right at the start sees a breakaway group of 3 form; Langeveld (OGE), Gilbert (BMC) and Offredo (FDJ) they build a lead of over 5 minutes through the first 40kms with no-one in the peloton interested in chasing.
Breakaway take the first 3 places at the intermediate sprint, I decide against using any kind of leadout as I see today as a good chance for the riders to rest up. Instead Cav will take the wheels of his rival…for the 1st sprint he joins Greipel’s wheel… the German takes 13 pts follow by Cav then Kittel.
As we approach halfway the lead is at 5min 01 …Cannondale are on the front doing the pacing. There a vicious winds today and Veltis and Trent ride to protect Cavendish and save his energy for the final sprint.
Pace is upped by Lotto and Cannondale on the front with 40km to go, the lead is just under 3 minutes.
Gilbert and co are caught 7km out from the finish and the trains are ready for the sprint finish!
It’s another poor lead out from our boys, this time Steegmans gets blocked in and Cav has to come off his wheel and take Greipels…the minor delay costs the Brit and he is out of this..
Matthew Goss takes the victory here on Stage 6. The Aussie with a huge win over his Green Jersey rivals. Kristoff (KAT) is 2nd with Guardini (AST) in 3rd.

Given the nature of today’s stage no surprise that all things remain the same in the battle for the yellow and white jerseys.
This stage takes the riders north-west through the Monts de Lacaune including the climbs of the Col des 13 Vents ("The Pass of 13 Winds" and the Category 2 Col de la Croix de Mounis (809 m (2,654 ft)). After passing the town of Lacaune, the race dropped down over two smaller climbs before the finish in the World Heritage Site city of Albi.
Amongst the favourites for the stage will be Sagan,
A relatively relaxed pace at the front of the peloton and after 30km we have our first breakaway. Iglinskiy (AST), Astarloza (EUS) and Enquolvent (SOJ) lead by just over 4 minutes.
The breakaway is taking on a significant margin as we approach the 140km to go mark. 8mins 24 seconds…the peloton however seem content with the pace as relaxed as at the start.
Having picked up the full 5 points at the first KOTM mark, Iglinskiy (AST) makes a late dash on the 2nd climb…but has left it too late. It’s Astarloza (EUS) who picks up the 5 this time.
As we approach the only intermediate sprint point of the day the trains are set up…The German beats Cavendish though the Manx-Missile eased down once he realised Goss was out of it.
After the sprint the pace picks up…the lead is now down to 5 minutes and the original breakaway of 3 have been joined by Gilbert (BMC) and Flecha (VCD). ..82km to go!
Lotto, Cannondale and Argos are rotating the pace setting amongst themselves at the front, it would seem they may favour a sprint finish…we will need to watch out for any early attack from Sagan.
We have our first crash…Daniel Moreno (KAT) has fallen heavily…he gets up and cycles on but he is almost 3 mins behind the peloton.
Just 30kms remain…the breakaway lead by 1min 36, Engoulvent (SOJ) has already been dropped and is about to be picked up by the peloton.
Moments later 3 more of the breakaway are caught…but Flecha attacks and still leads by 1 minute.
Flecha (VCD) is caught just 10km out from the finish…looks set to be a sprint finish but I have different ideas… I attack with Michal and Martin…
It works, I get away from the pack and build a lead of 49 seconds…but with 3km left they are coming quickly…
He’s done it, a fantastic bit of teamwork from Tony Martin who really put the work in on the initial attack. Our young prodigy has taken his first Tour De France Stage win…and there’s a gap to the rest…
What a day for the whole team. We took the risk of attacking and it paid off. Suffice to say the pace from the peloton today helped us out a lot but credit to Martin who really did put the power down to help Michal.
As well as a 1,2,3 finish to celebrate, Michal has closed the gap on Sagan and more importantly opened up a further 33 second advantage over Pinot!
@Ian Butler- The stage could not have gone any better, like I said earlier Martin is going to be key to Michal's challenge for the white jersey, lets hope he can keep it up!
TDF STAGE 8
After 120 km (74.6 mi) of flat to start, Stage 8 featured the first mountains of the tour, including the Hors catégorie climb of the Port de Pailhères which, at 2,001 m (6,565 ft), is the highest point reached on the 2013 Tour. The finish was at the Ax 3 Domaines ski resort, at 1,375 m (4,511 ft), with the final climb covering 7.8 km (4.8 mi) and rising 670 m (2,198 ft) at an average gradient of 8.6%.
This stage should see the main GC contenders come to the fore so expect the likes of Froome, Wiggins, Contador etc to feature.
The riders best enjoy this flat view for the next 120kms…after that the pain will begin!
We have our breakaway, Boom (Belkin), Flecha (VCD) and De Marchi (CAN), they lead by 3min 12 through first 35kms.
With over a 6 minute lead it’s clear the peloton aren’t interested in the breakaway, the 3 will contest the first 3 positions on today’s intermediate sprint, 22km’s away…from there on expect to see the Points Classification riders duke it out.
Kristoff takes 4th, Demare 5th, Cavendish 6th and Greipel 7th and Kittel 8th.
And the climbings begins…it’s time to sort the men from the boys. The climb to top is a very long one which just keeps rising all the way to 6,565ft…have fun with that! The breakaway are just over 4 minutes ahead of the peloton.
Here’s the SKY train beginning to up the tempo at the front, the lead has been cut to 3 minutes with 58km’s remaining. Verdugo (EUK) and Monfort (RLT) are going on the attack
Another group attack out of the peloton now, everyones favourite Voeckler (EUC), Frank (BMC) and Coppel (COF)…within striking distance are the day’s early breakaway and Verdugo, Monfort and Kangert (AST).
With 36km left the field has been blown apart and riders are strung out all over the climb. Sagan has been completely dropped as ourselves and SKY keep up the pace on the front…
There are attacks left right and centre…Rodriguez, Froome, Pinot, Contador are going….Michal is being dropped.
The riders are over the top of Pailheres and declining….after being dropped by the favourites Michal is downhilling quickly and in the slipstream of Martin. The German is truly exceptional!
Henao..after taking a tumble…the current yellow jersey will definitely not be leading come tomorrow.
Verdugo (EUK) and Kangert (AST) are still just holding on…surely they will be caught by the favourites who have now been joined by Pinot (FDJ) …Michal is 54 seconds back from them and desperately trying to hold on.
Froome is off…the Brit cranks it up and attacks…Contandor has already been dropped by him..Rodriguez and Pinot try to stay with him…
Not a chance though…Froome absolutely dominates it and just keeps moving away from everyone all the way to the finish. Consider that message sent to all of his yellow jersey rivals.
It’s hard to sum up today’s race…all in all it wasn’t too bad a performance from Michal. It was made worse due to Pinot getting away and finishing 3rd. However I didn’t expect to keep pace with him come the final climb…a 2 minute gap is recoverable but we will need a couple of excellent stages!
@sutty68 - Indeed it was, but we need an even better day before the end if I am to get this white jersey! And to be honest I am slowly running out of stages!
TDF STAGE 9
The second stage in the Pyrenees sees the race cross the Category 2 Col de Portet d'Aspet (1,069 m (3,507 ft)) soon after the start, followed by four Category 1 climbs: Col de Menté (1,349 m (4,426 ft)), Col de Peyresourde (1,569 m (5,148 ft)), Col de Val Louron-Azet (1,580 m (5,184 ft)) and La Hourquette d'Ancizan (1,564 m (5,131 ft)).[42] This is a "roller-coaster" stage!
Much like yesterday expect to see the likes of Froome, Contador and Rodriguez contesting the stage win. Above…the new man in the yellow jersey…
As the summit of the day’s first climb approaches, a breakaway group of 5 holds a 1min 16 lead over the peloton…the group contains, Voeckler (EUC), Evans (BMC), Gesink (BEL), Roy (FDJ) and Westra (VCD)
The climb to the top of the first category 1 climb today is almost done for the breakaway, they lead the peloton by over 5 minutes now,
Who needs drugs when you can just catch a lift…here’s Roy (FDJ) in the passenger seat whilst the rest of the breakaway descend on their bikes!
As the climbers descend we have a rider fall, Henao (SKY) is the man down, always a dangerous descent and he is the unfortunate victim today.
The peloton is beginning its 2nd category 1 climb of the day and SKY have taken over at the front. SKY man Henao is incredibly up from his earlier fall and back near the front.
With 38km remaining Gesink has been caught by the peloton…before the first two attacks out of it are launched…Monfort (RLT) and Frank (BMC)…with SKY setting a high pace will they manage to escape…the rest of the breakaway are now just 3min 24 ahead.
Inside 30km, the final climb of the day has been passed, can any of the GC contenders launch anything…the descent begins and it looks like OPQ and SKY are setting something up…breakaways lead less than 2 minutes.
Moreno has been dropped from the peloton…Peraud (ALM), Kessiakoff (AST) are a minute up the road; can they hold off a marauding chase group…
Peraud has done it! Stunning Stunning victory here on Stage 10! What a magnificent advert for cycling…he joined the breakaway late and has reeped the rewards for bravery!
Michal attacked very late on, just past the 5km mark and he takes 3rd place…will the gap back be wide enough for some valuable second gains.
It’s not….another great ride from Michal today yet he fails to make up ground on Pinot (FDJ). It’s going to be an incredible battle this one…the Pole though has to start making in-roads on his rival if he is to win his first white jersey!
