He showed in the Pyrénées that he belongs to the ~15 best climbers of this Tour (on his current form).
With the racing days he's gotten since then, I'd say he should be less affected than the others, and the Ventoux ends at quite an altitude and is quite long, so it'll favour natural climbers more than some other mountain pass.
Finishing between the 5th and 10th position seems vaguely possible. Not much better, but ending below 15 would be a disappointment (that's right as long as nobody survives from a long break to finish ahead of him).
Andy looked really strong on the sunday stage in the Pyrenees. On the last mountain he followed every acceleration by Quintana pretty much right in Froome's wheel.
He's so far down in the GC after the time trial that he could attack on Ventoux and Sky probably wouldn't chase him. Of course if Froome goes full retard again nobody else will have a chance, but if it slows a bit in the group of favorites, Andy is definitely one of the guys who could ride away and win.
Yeah, I was a bit disappointed he didn't attack with Birdsong and Martin, I had the feeling he was going really easy up that last climb.
(I know he would've been dropped on the descent )

I know Pinot lost it mentally in the Pyrenees, but this stage still has his name written all over it. No scary downhills, it's Bastille Day, and since he is no threat at all in the GC, he'll be able to go clear in a break away. He has been coasting big time this past week, so he should have fresh legs. This might be the stage where he gets back his confidence and puts in a solid performance the final week of the tour. |

If Sky falter a bit like they have been doing, there could be a chance a guy like Rolland, Nieve, Navarro or Valverde makes it. Froome shouldn't be too tempted to following early attacks from riders down on the GC if they come around the 7-6 th km mark. |

I hope for a surprise attack on the flat by Saxo and Belkin together! |

Pinot's ill at the moment (sore throat), he's rather expecting to show something in the Alps.
It might be bluff of course, but I don't expect much from him tomorrow. |

Movistar still has a chance at the Team GC, and I think they might try and get it back tomorrow as well. I hope anyway
Froome will probably win this though, unless a break wins.
are you calling Hesjedal weak because he is riding with fractured rib!he is barely riding and has no chance of victory because of injury! |

Yes. He is very weak right now. He's been sitting at the back of the peloton everyday.

I really think a breakaway will take the stage win tomorrow.
1. SKY said they don't care about the stage victory. Who should wheel in the breakaway then?
2. 240 km is a very very long stage to chase a breakaway when no one really wants to take charge until the mountains.
3. It's the french national day, and alot of riders will try to make the break. A big group out front will be even harder to chase.
It will be a tactical war until the climb, and I wouldn't be surprised if the escapees had over 10 minutes when they reach Mount Ventoux.
Oh - And Thomas De Gendt will win this. He has a habit of showing up at the really big stages and he is in great shape. He will join the morning break and drop the others on the climb to take a solo win with a big gap behind him.

46 years separate Simpson and Froome. It's impressive how much we've progressed since 67, but what's really astonishing is how less pro athetles mentality has changed.
Another mockery of this guy's death scheduled for tomorrow.

Just for fun, how big of a percentage of the break tomorrow do you think will be french?

that should be a bet
will there be under 5 non-french people in the break?
coulda sworn this stage was a lot flatter until Ventoux
and 240km? WHY?! the best stages are shorter
and De Gendt has said that he's targetting the dual AlpDHuez stage, so i'm ruling him out |

I have a feeling John Gadret will try something around the bottom of the Mont Ventoux. I'd like to see that happen anyway |

I think Ag2r will try with Bardet, maybe Kadri with his mind on collecting some more KOM points. I don't see a break winning though, Froome will jump with a K or 2 to go and that'll be it.

I'd rather say the favourites group will start setting a huge pace down the Ventoux, so the likes of Gadret will either get dropped quickly, either struggle to be there at all. |

Too bad the stage is so long. A shorter stage would've meant some teams would try to isolate Froome before the Ventoux (not that it would matter much), but now it'll be one long, probably boring, preparation for the Ventoux. |

Andy did get a blood transfusion up to the Tour, in the time-window he couldnt be tested positive. And yet another in the Tour.
Before the Tour and during the Tour i said to my friends watch out for him, he looks too confident, and speaks too confident compared to his results for the last 1.5 years.
- Enough trolling with a bit of sarcastic truth
Carsten Jeppesen said that he thinks all the favourites will try to win today because its Ventoux, including Froome. (I know what Froome said himself). If he wont attack but just close gaps, the stage will go to Schleck Valverde or Quintana.
Maybe Rolland if he found his 2011 and 2012 mountain legs.
Funny to see that nobody has the slightest believe in El Pistolero. I really hope we see him attack with his spectacular and 900wattage attacks

I still think there might be chances for echelons and hitting froome where he is the weakest, let's hope so. |

Stage results predictions (discounting breakaways):
1. Valverde
2. Froome
3. Quintana
4. Schleck
5. Contador
6. Mollema
7.Ten Dam
8. Fuglsang
9. Rodriguez
10. Nieve
11.Rolland
12. Evans
13. D. Moren0
14. Navarro
15. Igor Anton/Talansky/Martin
Above mentioned is based on Porte + Kreuziger is sacrificing 100 percent for their captains today, otherwise both of them in top 10.

Thomas De Gendt trying to get in to the breakaway of the day. Technically he is the Breakaway of the Day at the moment, the peloton chasing though as others try to get in the break.
Edit #1: Now Tony Martin wants to try and go one better then 2009! While Simon Clarke and the French try and also break free. De Gendt got caught by the peloton as everyone and their dog tries to get free.
