Gesink,Samy Sanchez and Henao will beat riders like Santambrogio,Pozzovivo or Betancur.Pozzo participation isn't sure. His fall in Trentino was really bad.May have consequences.Santambrogio will lose a lot in the ITT and also he ride too much this year. Was in form in every race.I think he will go for stages and KOM.Betancur can't beat riders like Henao,Gesink or Sanchez in long, difficullt mountain stages.
My top 10 is:
1-3.Wiggins/Nibali/Hesjedal - .In my opinion ther have equal chances.
4-5.Evans/Henao(even if he will be Wiggo domestique. He will be like Froome like last year) .-again the have equal chances
6-8.Gesink/Scarponi/Basso -here maybe Scarponi will do a little better.
9-10.between Rujano(if he will find 2011 legs)Betancur,Pozzovivo,Santambrogio,Cobo,Intxausti and Pellizotti.
PS. I hope you understand because my english is very bad.
Gesink will be top 10, you are right, i forgot about him. Henao if he has not to work too much. |

Gesink team is very good.Kruijswijk,Kelderman and Garate are very good mountain riders.Especially Kruijswijk. For the flat he will have Bobridge,Clement,Wynants and Tjalingii. For the hilly's stage I think Martens will be the best dom for him. Also Clement is very good dom in the short punchy climbs.

9. Uran
10. Niemiec
Like nearly everyone else has said, I think it's a two way battle between Nibali and Wiggins.
Heart says Nibali, Head says Wiggins.
Though don't discount Hesjedal, after a really disappointing early season he seemed to be in better shape in the Ardennes
Scarponi, Basso, and Evans to disappoint

Evans will not disappoint. His big objective is still TdF.If he will be outisde of top 10 he will not dissapoint.Judgind after his Trentino performance he will be a good rider in the Giro.He said that he had good feelings on the Sega di Aia climb.
Also, I don't understand why some people rate D.Moreno so high.Multiple mountain stages are too much for him.I think he will crack completly in one of the mountain stages.

Good shout with him, think he'll produce similar ride to Brambilla's last year. Looking forward a lot to see what Bardiani young's squad can do.
On other hand, Brambilla isn't looking in great shape at all coming into the race so far.
.........
Head says Wiggins. Heart says Nibali. I hope Wiggins will be strong though ( he definitely looks like it so far ) as I couldn't stand if Henao proves to be the stronger and yet will still have to work for him anyway.

I don't think the form of Gianni will be that critical (though the best of luck to him if he happens to still be reading this forum), plenty of other good climbers in that Astana squad.
Also, is it May yet? |

I surely think he is capable of doing a Top 10 in this years Giro.
I wouldn't say surely. That was a while ago, and it was one stage. He's had no prior GT results other than finishing outside the Top 50 for as far back as I bothered looking.

He just came 2nd in Trentino, being 2nd best climber expect Nibali there. If he has the form, he will be there. The question is, can he hold it.

Well, the never-ending discussion. If he doesn't crash that much, and he's on top-form, then I can see him as a GC contender. Not a favourite, definitely not, but a contender. His 5th place in the Tour of 2009 proves that it's possible. It's not possible that he got that much worse, technically, he should be better than he was in 2009(only if you look at his age, I mean)
But the problem is, he does crash that much. And no, Vuelta 2012 wasn't top-form for him. Tour de France 2012 should have been though, but, guess? He crashed
Although he disappointed at the mountain stage there. Or did he crash before that too? I don't remember, I think he crashed multiple times in Le Tour.
The thing with Robert Gesink is that he seems never been in top form:
Clásica de AlmerÃa
Challenge Mallorca
Volta Ciclista a Catalunya
Paris - Nice
Vuelta a Andalucia Ruta Ciclista Del Sol
Vuelta Ciclista a Murcia
and he seems to give a damn about races others than his only objectiv of the season. I dont think Tour of Oman or Critérium International were the main objetiv of Froome this season or Vuelta Ciclista al PaÃs Vasco or Volta Ciclista a Catalunya were the main objectiv of the season for Quintana who was suppose to be a helper for Valverde and Costa, but both of them did well.
And when he finaly is in top form and he cares about the race then he isnt able to stay on his bike
And finaly ask isso how many joung talents who were supose to win the Tour one day stayed as just that, joung Talents.

Are you kidding me Last year vuelta had more Mountains Stages than this year Giro, in fact I never saw a Grand Tour with more uphill finishes han last year Vuelta.

Uphill finish =/= mountain stage.

Vuelta had 2 mountain stages. The rest were more or less:

Edit: There were 3 actually, forgot about Ancares. Anyway, the Giro has way more, even if most of them are so short that they could be MTTs.

Negative as always I see
Doesn't really matter how many climbs there are, in most stages everyone that matters will still be together on the final climb, and on the stages where they do attack 100km from the finish, the TV isn't on yet and the commentators won't know anything about it by the time the TV is on they've regrouped (Giau 2008 anyone?)

Is anything I said false? And the amount of climbs sure does matter. First, because if there are no previous climbs, then for sure nothing will happen before the last one. Of course, having multiple climbs doesn't mean that there will be attacks from far out 100% sure, but at least opens the chance for that, and in general makes the race harder to control. And second, because even if nobody tries anything because they forgot their balls at the hotel room, multiple climbs mean more fatigue.

Hesjedal can win it again and I think he will. But it's whether his team is ready to support him as much as they did last year
