Sagan's going to be in for a "lovely" amount of work closing down all these attacks when BMC and Omega-Pharma Quickstep can afford to send their other riders up the road in attacks and have Gilbert and Chava sit on Sagan's wheel.
Edit: Strong enough to catch them and launch his own attack though, with Gilbert in hot pursuit of his wheel.

Sagan manages to outlast Gilbert in the sprint to take first place, with Gilbert finishing second. |

Rather incredible race by Sagan. Van Ameraet and Maes with a good gap 1.5 km from the finish. No one wants to help Sagan who has Gilbert et al on his wheel, yet he single-handedly brings back and drops the two - plus everyone else, except for Gilbert who's only just able to hold his wheel.
Bad sprint by Gilbert, I (with my limited knowledge on race tactics ) think. He was in a fine position in Sagan's wheel, but went early, allowing Sagan to get on his wheel and simply overtake him with a few metres to go.
Leukemans third, by the way.
Great racing. |

Great finish from Sagan. Leading whole last 3kms, attacking and beating "wheelsucking" Gilbert on the line.
Gilbert back in form?
Edit: I cant see anyone else doing this kind of performance. Incredible.

Cyclingnews live ticker speculated that Gilbert thought Sagan must be tired and so it would be enough. Can't underestimate Sagan, though
Strong 5th and 9th by Geschke and Voss, btw.

Wasn`t De Haes in the break all day? And still finishing 10th?
Haven`t seen the race but thought I saw him in the group a few hours ago. |

Gilbert did something similar in Gold Race 2011 bringing back a late attack from Leukemans I think. He led the favourites group for the last 3 kms before dropping everybody on the Cauberg.

That was impressive by Sagan. Also happy to see Malacarne in top ten with Leukemans after driving the front group for most of the last 50 km. |

Yup. He and Maes were in break all day. Later joined by first Devolder and Leukemans and then Sagan and Gilbert and the others.

I protest the title of this thread. Neither this, or AGR, are held in the Ardennes.
But great win by Sagan, impressive display of power. And good to see Gilbert in form ready for AGR.
