I never planned to post the report today (Sunday), only the discussion threads. So save the F5 button til tomorrow
I'm very aware that reports aren't and shouldn't be posted the same day as the discussion thread, no worries

GGdonovan/fintas: I presume the pair of you are most interested in Clasico San Cristobal. That definately won't be up tomorrow morning. Ive not even written it's report yet

Once again excellent report SN. This was for the usual suspect but still those were my favorites (Bakelants and Schleck) also not disappointed ... Boasson Hagen will be very dangerous during the season as proven in this race ..

It was a very nice race. Great win for Cunego, he keeps expanding his ManGame legend, and well done by Ponzi getting a podium after being so aggressive. I'm very happy with 11th, plus other 3 in the top 20, is certainly better than expected, although it kinda hurts to miss a top 10 by such a narrow margin.
And great report once again, SN.
Edit: Forgot to say, wow Kump.

Cunego... Then again, I raced against Lotto/Bianchi last year, should be used to them winning... Suprisingly weak by Bakelants and (specially) Valverde, on the other hand Di Maggio shows that he can score points for Venchi this season aswell. Might become a pattern though, he stays with the best then looses at the end
Another thought tough, looking at the overview pic, the Bacardi-jersey looks really nice:

Nice report and an exciting race. Cunego is a legend to be honest. Looking forward to the GT he races. The hilly races certainly will be great races, with a closely matched field. Nice start to the season.

It was precisely what I was thinking, totally surprising result. If it can get this result with all this competition which succeed in races with less competition ...

Yay...Cunego. Destroyed them at the finish - shame Bakelants wasn't up there at the end to challenge him...
Good result from Ponzi too - and Di Maggio passes his first PT test. |

Will be interesting to see how this compares with the rest of the hilly races. It is probably a weak as field as we will get with a few of the 83 hills absent here, but also the end of stage route certainly wasnt the hardest - the downhill nature of the finish, and not really enough climb to the finish line with positioning so important there.

Superb report, and an excellent result from Wiggle. Great start to the season (far more rewarding than Qatar last season!).
Never really believed Ponzi would get a win, or podium, so super happy with that. |

Obviously a bit disappointed with the result itself after VDB nearly got himself into the front group with some great efforts.
Still, I take a "give everything I have"-attitude and 25th over an anonymous 20th place every day, had me on the edge of my seat with that tiny gap!

The moneybags men won here by the looks. Cunego did what he had to do, can he keep doing it in non Italian classics?
But good start from Hagen and Ponzi also proving that the hilly arena is not just the Schleck/Bakelandts show.
For SRB it was what we expected a nice break from young Rowsell but when the hammer went down we were not going to be involved. Any hilly classic where we break the top 20 will be a success.

Great report and great dramatic race!
Cunego is a destroyer, this was eeeasyyy. Nice podium by Ponzi, good feeling that he was helped to podium finish also by our loaned-out rider Palini, precious experience for him.
Also great showing from Pivovarna Lasko, i think this was a good preview of how they can be pretty dangerous in the PCT hilly races, ,with their depth in that area.

Cunego really was the strongest sprinting to the win from the first position. Nice start for Lotto in the PT.
And nice to see former riders and loaned riders doing well. Koep in the peloton and Novak very attacking just like last season. |

Well, this race officially failed . I don't expect Roux to be with the top puncheur, but a more challenging route might be better for him.
@Heine: I really like it aswell, looks very nice, especially the back.

I'm pleased with this result. My main problem is that my 2nd best rider is 50+, which means that a subtop result for Ulissi is swiftly caught by some semigood results from other teams. But I kinda knew that going into the season.
6th is a very nice start though, and it seems like 10th places here and there are the real goal for the hilly races.

What nice report here! And what a start into the season.
When I saw Wiggle made a early move I thought it would be pretty much over as if a favourite did a early crazy breakaway attempt it was often good enough to hold on and win it. But I guess the peloton in the PT is so much stronger that they can be reeled in early enough.
The Vesuvio, Pearl and Lotto work was very good and it showed that it was right to send here Cunego plus our best domestiques to get Cunego in a good position. Now I hope this is the beginning to hold on getting infront of the bottom 4 places.
Interesting that it's a 1-2 of the recently promoted teams and what a result for kumazans team!
