4 More Youngsters Complete MTN - WBR Roster, Russom Leaves
[img-l]https://i1252.photobucket.com/albums/hh579/aidanvn13/luis_enrique_lemis_davila_zpsb74c5811.png[/img-l] Name: | Luis Enrique Lemus Davila | Nationality: | | Age: | 21 | Specialisation: | Climber | Team Role: | Young Talent, Domestique | Wage: | €50 000 |
We have scouted a young talented climber from Mexico, who has shown some potential in national events. We want to see how well he can perform on an international level as well. Although he is from Mexico, WBR does have projects in the country and we thought Rodas would be a good mentor for the youngster.
[img-l]https://i1252.photobucket.com/albums/hh579/aidanvn13/heiko_redecker_zps9a5fb1df.png[/img-l] Name: | Heiko Redecker | Nationality: | | Age: | 23 | Specialisation: | Sprinter | Team Role: | Young Talent, Domestique | Wage: | €55 000 |
This man is probably Africa's next best sprinter. Some day he'll turn out to be a very fast finisher and we hope he'll stay with us. To our surprise no other team was very interested in him, but we hope one day he'll remember that!
ON LOAN:
[img-l]https://i1252.photobucket.com/albums/hh579/aidanvn13/christian_mager_zps4cd15ac6.png[/img-l] Name: | Christian Mager | Nationality: | | Age: | 21 | Specialisation: | Hills | Team Role: | Young Talent, Domestique | Wage: | €55 000 (MTN-WBR pays €30 000 thereof) |
Christian is joining us on loan from Puma-SAP. We thought he'd be a good all round domestique to do all the dirty work as any young, inexperienced rider should.
ON LOAN:
[img-l]https://i1252.photobucket.com/albums/hh579/aidanvn13/alexey_lutsenko_zpsc84416f8.png[/img-l] Name: | Alexey Lutsenko | Nationality: | | Age: | 21 | Specialisation: | Hills, Sprinting | Team Role: | Young Talent, Domestique | Wage: | €370 000 (Pendleton pays everything thereof) |
This is probably one of the next best riders the world will see. He is a very promising youngster that can climb, sprint and has a punchy kick on hilly races. We are thrilled to play a part in his development, even if it just is on a loan.
--
OUT ON LOAN:
Meron Russom
Meron Russom leaves MTN-WBR for Pendleton's Twicer on a loan deal. MTN-WBR continues to pay his salary, which is €98 00. Team manager, aidanvn13, had this to say,
"I believe Russom has not reached his full potential yet. He can only improve by riding on the toughest stage, the Pro Tour. Wackojackohighcliffe and I easily reached an agreement that we're both happy with. We look forward to seeing Russom compete on the Pro Tour and to have Lutsenko race for us."

Redecker is great. That`s why I wanted him first.
Lutsenko indeed interesting, but in the MG Kevin Eeckhout is the U23 World Champion. |

It's remarkable how did you build a good team mostly with african riders. |

@Miguel98 - Thanks. Ja, I do have a few non-Africans, but they are only for 1 or 2 seasons, just to give my team some structure. In a few seasons I'll have a very strong team made up of only Africans, I'm sure

Looking back at my goals now I was way too ambitious. It was difficult at the time to make a decision, but I should've chosen easier goals.
Oh, and I was thinking of starting a French-Canadian team, but then I saw you already started one

Race Stages:
Race Startlist:
Squad:
Julian Rodas | (Leader) | Cherif Adallah | (Sprinter) | Abdalla Ben Youcef | (Lead-out) | Herman Fouche | (Team mate) | Stefan Ihlenfeldt | (Team mate) | Louis Meintjes | (Team mate) | Rafiki Uwimana | (Team mate) |
Race Objectives
One of our yearly goals! We need to get at least a Top 5 finish! We're also looking for a stage win in the flat stages with our fast man, Cherif Abdallah.
Stage 1 -Report and Results
Spoiler
Le Tour d'Algerie got off to a good start with Abdallah claiming 3rd in MTN-WBR's first ever race! It was amazing to see how well our lead-out train worked together to set it up for Abdallah. Unfortunately, Polivoda was strongest on the day and congrats to the PrivatBank team.
Stage 2: -Report and Results
Spoiler
Our lead-out train had some difficulties on this stage. It was not nearly as strong as the previous stage. This forced Abdallah to go early and cost him dearly. He still managed to come in 10th though.
Stage 3: -Report and Results
Spoiler
This is probably the toughest flat stage of the tour. We were concerned that Abdallah would be dropped, but in the end he managed to hang on, so any result was a bonus for us! This tough stage took it's toll, our domestiques couldn't quite manage to form a train for Abdallah. Abdallah did what he could and managed 6th, so we're quite satisfied with that!
Abdallah in action - rainy conditions didn't favour him at all!
A very close sprint it was!
Best placed rider: C. Abdallah (6th)
Stage 4: -Report and Results
Stage 5: -Report and Results
Spoiler
As expected, this stage was the GC decider. Rodas was under huge pressure to perform here as this was our first goal. It would surely make or break our confidence for the season. A top 5 wouldn't come without some sort of a miracle, not because we didn't think Rodas was all that good, but because he was up against the best climbers in the division, like Arroyo, Marzano, Moreno, Martinez, Talabardon and Cabreira.
Rodas, however, didn't let this faze him. He rode a bold race, but it paid off! A stage win! 2nd on GC! Goal accomplished! Out-foxed the favourites! (Take that DeBerg! ) And on another positve note, MTN-WBR rode quite an attacking race with Uwimana in the break and Ihlenfeldt in a move on the last climb.
Best placed rider: J. Rodas (1st)
Summary:
Well, what can I say? I was a little bit disappointed that we didn't get a sprint victory, but our lead-out train performed brilliantly. I think Cherif Abdallah would get his deserved win soon. I was a bit doubtful of achieving a top 5 coming into the race, especially with such a strong field! It surprised me as much as everybody else when Rodas took the final stage win and 2nd in the GC! We were unlucky to miss out on the overall win with Moreno winning by a few splits! We look forward to seeing what the rest of the season holds, especially Rodas's next race, Middle East Tour!

His former teammates at CSC-Orbea pass their congratulations to Rodas,
such a great guy. And we are glad he can enjoy leading this team.

Rodas surprisingly won a stage and came 2nd in GC in a January Stage Race last season as well. Let's hope for MTN's sake that he backs it up more than he did for CSC

Well, at least Abdallah got his first unofficial wins at your home-race, the Herald Cycle Classic well done in Algerie!

Tour of South Africa [HC]
Squad:
| Adrien Niyonshuti | Leader | | Ngock Yves Ngue | Free Element | | Cherif Abdallah | Sprinter | | Tyler Day | Sprinter | | Johann Rabie | Team Mate | | Louis Meintjes | Team Mate | | JC Nel | Team Mate | | Heiko Redecker | Team Mate |
Race Objectives/Expectations:
Here we have our second race of the season and in our home country! We'll definitely be looking to impress the home fans with something special. That being said, we don't have our hopes too high on this one. The competition in the first HC race of the season will be immense, so we're expecting a real hard race. If somehow we could sneak a guy into the top 10, that would be an amazing result. Realistically, our biggest hope for success is a stage win from a break away! Hopefully we can get into the daily break on every stage and maybe, just maybe, something special could happen.
As for our roster, Adrien will lead us here, but Ngock will be allowed to do as he pleases. Sprints will be left to Cherif and Tyler, both showed amazing form in the Herald Cycle Series collectively claiming 3 wins and finishing 1st and 2nd, respectively, in the overall classification. Johann Rabie is a strong candidate for the breakaway, on flat and hilly days. Our youngsters, Louis, JC and Heiko, will be looking for some hard-earned experience in this tour. Maybe they might even get in a break or two; who knows?
In short, we don't have any specific goals or hopes for this tour, so any result is a good result!

Middle East Tour [C2]
Squad:
| Julian Rodas | Leader | | Stefan Ihlenfeldt | Team mate | | Craig Lewis | Team mate | | Alexey Lutsenko | Team mate | | James Perry | Team mate | | Luis Enrique Lemus | Team mate | | JC Nel | Team mate |
Race Objectives/Expectations:
This tour isn't a very important race for us, so we don't exactly have the strongest squad going into this race. We don't even have a sprinter! We are basically testing our luck with this race, maybe to grab a stage win or two from a break. However, depending on who else is present, Rodas does stand a good chance of a top 5 overall. After Tour d'Algerie, who knows what can happen?!
