It's a mistake, he is 75 hill. It's half the reason I took on all these loans was to get the 500k to get him to 75 hill. I don't know how effective that will be, but I was rather desperate for a hilly leader and that was what my brain came up with!

In my opinion it changed him from a very average CT puncheur, to a top 10 CT puncheur. https://www.pcmdai...ost_655426

Ilias Grabs Podium in Cuba
Magna-Ryanair's debut race will be one to remember as Perikles Ilias displayed a great sense of strategy to outduel several of the pre-race favourites for 3rd place at the Clasico San Cristobal in Cuba.
Ilias make his decisive move in the final meters in Cuba
Several riders were active in trying to get into the early break including young loanees Arnaud Demare and Michal Koalar along with Irish veteran Paidi O'brien, however they just missed getting into the break of the day, however we are pleased to see them attempting some agressive riding
A great start for Ilias is something we hope will give the team confidence going in to the next few races for the team, which will include Ilias who will hope to continue his form.

Great bursst of speed by Ilias going to the uphill finish! He came from nowhere and striked, nice result for you in the first ever race.

Magna-Ryanair took part in three classics early in the season and were reasonably successful in all of the races, getting the season off to a good start.
Results:
3rd Perikles Ilias (26)
32nd Carl Naibo
59th Zico Waeytens
62nd Paidi O'Brien
64th Arnaud Demare
67th Michal Kolar
81st Andreas Hofer
Review:
As chronicled earlier in this HQ the season got off to a flourish for Magna-Ryanair as Perikles Ilias grabbed a podium at the finish of the race. This was an excellent result against some of the top punchers in the division as he timed his final attack toward the finish perfectly. The rest of the squad did much worse as only Naibo was able to finish with the pack and even then he was unable to grab any rankings points. Good tempered with the bad.
Results:
16th Perikles Ilias (4)
23rd Markus Eibegger (1)
38th Dominik Hrinkow
55th Zico Waeytens
56th Paidi O'Brien
57th Daniel Paulus
66th Michal Kolar
Review:
This was a race that we knew we had to take some risks. Ilias was up to the task of launching many attacks throughout the race
While Ilias was eventually caught, having held a 40 second lead with 23km to go, he was able to finish with the final group and claimed 16th place in a race that really did not suit him. Markus Eibegger did well in finishing with one of the next groups and claimed his first point of the season. Our domestiques were not really able to achieve much but that is to be expected in such a tough race.
Results:
5th Isaac Speirs (20)
14th Manuel Belletti (6)
25th Perikles Ilias (1)
30th Arnaud Demare
47th Marco Haller
50th Petr Vakoc
63rd Michal Kolar
Review:
Isaac Speirs was the hero of the day for Magna-Ryanair claiming a solid 5th place in Spain.
A chaotic finale meant that only Speirs was in position for a top finish but Belletti was able to grab some points in 14th and Perkiles Ilias did well to continue his early season points haul by finishing 25th. Overall a successful race for Magna.
Perikles Ilias was the star of January getting a podium and points in all races. The team collected 58 points in 6 racedays, averaging almost 10 points per raceday without team leader Rohregger even racing. The team is being asked to get points with depth rather than top leaders and so far it is working out reasonably well. Rohregger will be in action in February and Magna hopes to continue the momentum and continue bringing in points

February will be a pretty easy month for the team with only three races, however it will see the debut of Thomas Rohregger who is expected to be the primary point getter for Magna-Ryanair.
The Emerald Race
The Route
An undulating route with 21km of climbing and an uphill finish. This race is categorized as flat but an uphill finish could lead to some drama.
The Squad
Isaac Speirs
Manuel Belletti
Arnaud Demare
Andreas Hofer
Marco Haller
Petr Vakoc
Michal Kolar
So basically we are hoping that the uphill finish does not matter, otherwise this race could be a disaster. An uphill finish may favour Demare if it turns out to be significant, but otherwise we hope for a bunch sprint where Speirs or Belletti can find success.
GP Postojna
The Route
The 260km marathon of a route in Slovenia will be a test for the entire team. A hilly circuit that allows little time to breathe is packed with short, intense climbs. A flat finish could mean that a puncheur with a kick will win, but more likely will be that the stronger climbers will distance themselves with attacks before the finale. A climber with good endurance will win here, potentially DMW or Weening would be an obvious pick
The Squad
Perikles Ilias *Leader*
Markus Eibegger
Dominik Hrinkow
Arnaud Demare
Paidi O'Brien
Zico Waeytens
Michal Kolar
Ilias is the de facto leader but this is not a route that suits him, so a top-15 would be a nice surprise. A top 25 for Eibegger would be pleasing as well.
Tour of the Middle East
The Route
This 12 day stage race will test riders over a variety of disciplines. There are 3 hilly stages, 4 mountain stages, 4 flat stages and an individual time trial. The GC winner will probably be someone who will be at home in the mountains yet able to maintain the lead in the individual time trial. We feel the combination of 4 mountain stages and a long time trial make this an optimal route for Rohregger.
The Squad
Thomas Rohregger *Team Leader*
Carl Naibo *Co-Leader*
Alexander Schrangl
Manuel Belletti *Sprinter*
Andreas Hofer
Zico Waeytens
Petr Vakoc
Our expectation is nothing less than the overall GC for Rohregger and a strong result for Naibo as well. Belletti will allowed to forage for results in the flat stages and could be a danger in some of the hilly stages if he is not dropped. The rest of the squad is expected to be firmly behind Naibo and Rohregger in pursuit of overall success. A small but tough start list awaits, so we are looking forward to the challenge.

I didn't see that coming. The Middle East is going to be hotly contested even with only eight teams |

It's a pretty big investment in terms of racedays to send Rohregger, but 4 mountain stages and a long time trial which really favours him against other CT riders.
Plus, it's a fun course and I wanted to send some good riders!

Magna-Ryanair had a productive 2nd moth of the season, taking part in their first stage race (and winning!) as well as posting strong results in some classics.
Results:
3rd Arnaud Demare (26)
4th Manuel Belletti (23)
14th Isaac Speirs (6)
38th Marco Haller
40th Petr Vakoc
46th Michal Kolar
67th Andreas Hofer
Review:
In a race that we did not expect that much, our sprint team delivered an excellent team result, securing 3rd, 4th and 14th, achieving another podium for the team as well as good results from Belletti and Demare. Dall'antonia was excellent in securing a win for A haul of 55 points is excellent for a team that does not have much focus on sprints.
Results:
5th Arnaud Demare (20)
13th Perikles Ilias (7)
17th Markus Eibegger (3)
40th Dominik Hrinkow
44th Zico Waeytens
56th Michal Kolar
57th Paidi O'brien
Review:
Arnaud Demare continued his strong month to grab a surprising 5th. Though the course was expected to be quite difficult, a slow pace allowed the young Frenchman to survive the climbs and sprint well for a solid placing. Perikles Ilias and Markus Eibegger collected a few points between themselves to make it a decent day out for Magna when not much was expected. 30 points from Nepal was above the expectations of the team.
Notable Stage Results:
Stage 3 - Zico Waeytens - 7th
Stage 4 - Thomas Rohregger - 2nd
Stage 4 - Alexander Schrangl - 5th
Stage 5 - Manuel Belletti - 4th
Stage 6 - Manuel Belletti - 2nd
Stage 7 - Manuel Belletti - 7th
Stage 8 - Thomas Rohregger - 1st
Stage 9 - Thomas Rohregger - 2nd
Stage 10 - Thomas Rohregger - 5th
Stage 11 - Thomas Rohregger - 1st
Overall GC Results
1st Thomas Rohregger
14th Carl Naibo
18th Alexander Schrangl
30th Zico Waeytens
35th Petr Vakoc
DNF Manuel Belletti
DNF Andreas Hofer
Review:
A team success in the Tour of the Middle East saw 4 different riders grabbing some points, 2 stage wins from Thomas Rohregger and strong sprint results from Manuel Belletti. A small but tough field gave rise to an excellent battle with Kenya Airways Yasmani Martinez over the GC title, where Rohregger recovered from some poor early results to take the overall title. Belletti was strong in the sprints considering we brought him no help, though we are disappointed that he was unable to finish the race. Carl Naibo was somewhat of a disappointment, but he was the key domestique for Rohregger so his lack of big results is not a big deal.
Magna-Ryanair showed off some suprising depth this month with some good results in classics that were not supposed to favour them. The best result was probably at the Emerald Race with 3 riders in the top 15, but fans of the team will probably remember the epic Tour of the Middle East for a long time. The team currently resides in a promotion spot in the CT standings but may be brought back to earth rather quickly.

Glad to see that Demare is of good use for you so far, hopefully justifying the amount of wage you pay
The way the races play out, I smell some nice opportunities for him looking through your race calendar, it would be great if he could surprise some more times

Some good points scores for you this month, well done
I have a felling you may ride yourself into promotion contention if riders like Demare continue to surprise |

Ah. So it should have GP Postojna in the title, not Kathmandu, right? |

March is a pretty light month for the team as it works towards some of its big goals for the season in May and June.
Vilnius GP
The Route
A pretty flat route with a slightly uphill finish will probably see a result much like the Emerald Tour in Australia earlier this season.
The Squad
Isaac Speirs
Manuel Belletti
Arnaud Demare
Zico Waeytens
Marco Haller
Petr Vakoc
Michal Kolar
This is a pretty good route for Demare or Belletti to show off their climbing skills along with their sprint ability. Isaac Speirs or Zico Waeytens may be able to scrounge up some points as well.
Scandinavia Open Road Race
The Route
A flat opening section into a 12 lap hilly circut highlight this C1 race. The distance is not all that long, but a grueling circut will probably lead to a small selection of riders to duel it out at the end
The Squad
Perikles Ilias *Leader*
Alexander Schrangl
Paidi O'Brien
Andreas Hofer
Zico Waeytens
Michal Kolar
Petr Vakoc
This squad might be hard pressed to top 10 against CT competition, they are hilariously outgunned against PCT puncheurs. Some points from Ilias or Schrangl would be nice but our main objective will be to be in the break.
Kwita Izina
The Route
A little something for everybody in this 3 day stage race. A mountain stage, a flat stage and a hilly stage will test the leaders abilities in all terrains. The 1st stage being the most Mountainous it will probably provide the overall victor
The Squad
Carl Naibo *Leader*
Markus Eibegger
Alexander Schrangl
Dominik Hrinkow
Zico Waeytens
Michal Kolar
Petr Vakoc
Naibo gets to lead the team in Africa. He's certainly not expected to win, but somewhere between a top 5 or top 10 will be expected, depending on the starters list. The support is quite good from Schrangl, Eibegger and Hrikow with Eibegger possibly able to spring a surprise on stage 3.

An up and down month for Magna-Ryanair getting good results in places but failing hard in others
Results:
5th Manuel Belletti (20)
16th Isaac Speirs (4)
44th Michal Kolar
47th Arnaud Demare
55th Zico Waeytens
68th Petr Vakoc
74th Marco Haller
Review:
Our sprint team had probably over performed to this point so it was not surprising to get a more mediocre result in Lithuania. Still Belletti continues his fine form in finishing 5th though Isaac Speirs continues to play second fiddle to the Italian, finishing 16th. Could have been worst
Results:
50th Perikles Ilias
73rd Alexander Schrangl
94th Paidi O'Brien
96th Zico Waeytens
112th Michal Kolar
115th Petr Vakoc
124th Andreas Hofer
Review:
The above picture was the first and last time anyone saw Magna-Ryanair accomplish anything in this race - Waeytens trying to get into the break, but ultimately failing. We had no expectations when we saw the strong start list and we were not able exceed them. A wasted trip.
Notable Stage Results:
Stage 1 - Markus Eibegger - 1st
Stage 1 - Carl Naibo - 5th
Stage 2 - Markus Eibegger - 5th
Stage 3 - Markus Eibegger - 1st
Overall GC Results
1st Markus Eibegger
23rd Domink Hrinkow
33rd Alexander Schrangl
34th Petr Vakoc
53rd Michal Kolar
67th Carl Naibo
73rd Zico Waeytens
Review:
An absolutely barnstorming performance from a rider that was not expected to be anything more than a domestique, Markus Eibegger took a stunning stage 1 victory after a decisive attack and continued his fine performance in Africa. A 5th place in the sprint stage cemented the belief that Eibegger was a real GC threat and he capped off his race with another victory in the 3rd stage - 3 stages, 2 victories and a deserved overall GC title (along with a points jersey for good measure). Some of the support underachieved slightly, but with the team having to protect the jersey we are pleased with the overall result
1 good race, 1 mediocre race and 1 bad race summed up this month for Magna-Ryanair. Markus Eibegger showing that he is more than a superdomestique and that he cannot be taken lightly. Our sprint team continues to do reasonably well, though it would be nice if they were able to secure more points, of course! The Scandanivian Open race was a disaster but that was down to some poor planning.
Magna-Ryanair remains in a potential promotion spot but are playing down those expectations even though top star Thomas Rohregger has many races to come.

April is another light month for Magna-Ryanair but they are looking to continue their momentum from their victory at Kwita Izina
Volta ao Alentejo
The Route
A sprinter's stage race with an outside chance for a hilly rider to make an impact in the overall GC
The Squad
Isaac Speirs
Manuel Belletti
Arnaud Demare
Perikles Ilias
Marco Haller
Petr Vakoc
Michal Kolar
Ilias is the token hill rider as if the race breaks this way we want to be involved, otherwise Speirs, Belletti and Demare are here to compete against the best C2 sprinters.
Glava Tour
The Route
This 5 day stage race in the Norway features 3/4 flat stages and a decisive looking stage 4 that should decide the overall GC
The Squad
Perikles Ilias *Leader*
Markus Eibegger
Alexander Schrangl
Paidi O'Brien
Arnaud Demare
Zico Waeytens
Isaac Speirs
One of the stronger hilly squads that Magna-Ryanair can put together will travel to Norway for this race. Perikles Ilias is the de-facto leader but Markus Eibegger may again steal the show like he did in Africa. Demare and Speirs will be interested in the mass sprints.
