Interesting that youve gone for two races with TTTs aswell - not a massive strength of your team currently I would have thought

Well Trentino is just 15kms and Sibiu is 10kms so should I should be abal to hold my ground and not lose to much time.
(I'm going to stop now, this could get really irritating )

I think I'm gonna keep LLS just to prevent that you win a stage in Volta a Portugal
Anyway some tough goals there. I reckon we can count on a pretty aggressive transfer season from you.

I'm thinking Costa will take the opening ITT before LLS takes the rest of our chances So bring him on, I like challenges
And yes, I can see about 60% of my roster being overhauled. And for your sake, after scouting the regional talent, I can say I will be looking more into Spanish riders rather than Portuguese.

Igor Anton to Make a Return to the Tour of America?
The David Abal Leak / Connecting The Pieces
Earlier today current leader of CSC-Orbea addressed the media about his future and then gave out a sneak peak at potential race schedule for next season.
The highlights of the short press-conference included
his full commitment to the CSC program,
"I really like the direction the team is heading and it feels great to be a part of a team that has a long term future unlike previous teams I have been apart of."
He also leaked this mystery rider CSC is key
on pursuing during transfer when he said the following,
"I understand the team is looking for another leader next to me and Costa, in fact I have actually talked with him and told him all about the team and how it would be a perfect fit for him. Considering he is taking the same path I took, dumped on the street looking for a job from a disbanding team. And by now it's no mystery that this man is none other than Spanish climber David Abal."
And lastly when we was asked about
possible key races for him next year he had this to say,
"Well it all depends on if Abal joins the team or not. And being the optimist I am, I'm hoping I will get it go back to the Tour of America to turn my 2nd into a 1st, but truly my schedule all hinges on Abal. If we get him then I will lead all the races without many ITT kilometers, however if the transfer season goes horrible wrong then except me to be at the start line for every HC races with a mountain."
So it looks like Anton is playing the waiting game
like everyone else, only time will reval his fate.

A few riders went out into the local mountains to test out the new equipment,
our photographer went with them and captured a few pictures for our fans.
A few riders might stick around to test out the time trial equipment tomorrow.

Re-Signed
Rui Costa
Igor Antón
Edwin Parra Bustamante
Francisco Colorado
Julián Rodas
Ivan Basso
Constantino Zaballa
Craig Lewis
Eloy Teruel
Juan Gelabert
Abilphez Ajewole
Carlos Verona
Serafin José Blanco
- Overall everything went great in the first round of talks. The highlights being Anton and Costa signing rather easily and happily. Then signing all of our talents for another year which is good for the future of the program. And as for trade bait, 3 Colombians and Lewis signed and we will be looking for other teams to make their moves during the transfer season for them. And hopefully we can add Soler and Maksimov to the "trade bait" list but as of now it is going to be a struggle as they enter round 2 of talks.
Still Negotiating
Moises Dueñas
Roman Maksimov
Mauricio Soler
Not Offered A New Contract
Brad Armstrong Age 27 AVG 69 Climber |
* Brad was signed for a minimum wage contract and even provided a personal blog for the team to make some extra money, however he just never seemed to perform during the races. He was a fun guy to be around but just didn't fit with the future of the team. And also he didn't have any interest from other teams so we didn't feel the need to keep him as trade bait like Craig Lewis.
Bruno Lima Age 28 AVG 72 Sprinter |
* Bruno was our only other Portuguese rider on the team besides leader Rui Costa, and we certainly overpaid for him. Thus leaving us the option to frustrate him by offering a contract he would certainly decline and produce bad feeling between us, or just to let him go. We decided the best option was to walk away as friends and if the opportunity presents itself then we could possible re-sign him through free agency. But with all the new teams on the block the possibility he goes cheap is highly unlikely.
Julio Alberto Perez Cuapio Age 36 AVG 67 Climber |
* Julio Alberto has a hard decision. We want to give him one last year before he retired but his initial wage demand was "outrageous." At his age and depleted skill to offer what he offered is just unprofessional. Therefore we took back our kind heart and had to let him go. He was in line to be a mentor with cycling legend Ivan Basso but his greed (probably) just ended his cycling career a year short.

Re-Signed
Moise Dueñas
Roman Maksimov
- We were key on signing Dueñas as he makes for a great climbing domestic and after seeing he wasn't going to take a drastic pay cut in round 1 we settled on a realistic wage for his talents. Glad to have him back to help Anton and possibly Abal.
- Then there is Maksimov... In the first round he decided to hold off on giving him a contract and oh man did that piss him off. At first glance we almost walked out of the room after seeing his demand. But realizing he is a vital part in making some extra transfer money this season he did agree to a salary that should be tempting for other teams to pursue for such a young and talented sprinter.
Still Negotiating
Mauricio Soler
- Soler is playing hard ball, both sides are now unhappy. Can a deal be made?

Not Offered A New Contract
Mauricio Soler Age 30 AVG 74 Climber
* Soler had his mind set on either get his demands meet or moving on into free agency where he will certainly attract a lot of attention with the abundance of new teams this year. And CSC just couldn't open their pocketbooks big enough to see the plus side of keeping Soler. So we didn't even offer him a contract after seeing his third and final demand. Thus sending the Colombian climber into free agency, which I'm sure a few teams will be excited to have his service next year.
And that concludes our 2013 renewals. Roster is updated on the homepage.

David Abal
- Coming from the abandonment of Cafe de Colombia David Abal is ready to lead this Spanish squad to new heights, literally. This man can climb with the best of them but what makes him special is his ability to perform against the clock. He should have great season paired up with last years mountainous leader Igor Anton, so be on the lookout this year for the new A&A duo.
Sergio Barrio
- We opened up our pocketbooks deep to make this move happen with PT team UBS-BMC but we feel it is well worth it. Barrio will be a premier puncheur for years to come his only downfall is that he can't time trial. But no worries because Costa will be featuring in anything with a TT not Barrio. Oh, and did I mention he still has room to grow... He truly has to be our secret weapon if we want to promote this season. But more realistic, promotion in the near future.
Koldo Gil
- The current Spanish RR Champion joins the squad from Team Branchi or now called Lotto-Cervelo. At 35 and hefty wage at 105,000 Gil will mostly only be here for year to show off the NC jersey for the team but he has a knack for winning races he shouldn't so we will see if he can continue creating surprises.
Omar Fraile
-Fraile will bring forth his strong TT abilities in the upcoming season along with 2nd year pro Carlos Verona. Fraile could also be trained to be a stage racer as well so we have a few options in his development moving forward. The future is bright for a man that signed to just a 65,000 contract. This youth movement is going to payoff huge in the coming future.
Teodorico Usandizaga
- The longest and perhaps the funniest name on the team, Usankadjghkgakdglh ... has been looking for a team the last few season and we don't know why. He has the potential to be a great climber and attacker, And for minimum wage how could we go wrong? A&A should enjoy his company for the next few years.
Jesus Merino Criado
- The Spanish youth invasion continues with Criado is a unique talent to say the least. He comes in as a strong fighter and should be seen in a lot breakaways throughout the season, but what is remained unseen is his potential to become a 77 sprinter!?! A gutsy sprinter, should be very interesting to see how his career progresses. And we are glad we can get to see it firsthand.
Eduardo Ardaiz
- Again another 50,000 euro Spanish talent, it's almost like we kidnapped them and made them sign with us. Ardaiz doesn't have the potential like the rest of them but will eventually develop into a 76 rated time trialist. Not as good as what Verona and Altur will turn into but nothing is wrong with average.
Daniel Ruiz
- A very late addition to the team after the price of Portuguess talent Ricardo Ferreira went over our budget. Ruiz certainly won't be as good as Ferreira but will get up to 75 cobbles and should be a valuable asset to Marcos Altur in the coming years.
Ramon Domene
- Another part of our newly formed three-headed future for the cobbles is Domene. Another minimum wage signing with a bright future. Scouts are suggesting 75 in cobbles with a great kick, 75 sprint and 76 acceleration.
Rafael Silva
- Portuguese talents are hard to come by in this day in age but somehow we managed to get Silva. He was an absolute steal for yet again minimum wage. Silva has the option in front of him to become a 76HL/71SP or 78SP/69HL (or somewhere in between). Right now we are lending more towards the sprinter but time will tell.
Olivier Kaisen
- Yes the flag is right, it's a Belgium rider. But Kaisen comes in from the partly Spanish squad Festina+ so he should have picked up a little Spanish from Contador and Company. He brings in a strong TT present that we were desperately lacking, although some could say it is still lacking. Every little bit helps though when it comes to TTT's. Especially when you need to build a gap over riders like Alarcon. He will mostly likely be here for the one season so we shall try to make it the most barely as possible.
Roman Maksimov
- The fast man from Russia is heading back to Russia, well only for season. Maksimov gets to take a trip back home by going to Team PrivatBank and gets to tear up the CT flatlands in the process. Should be fun to see him rack up a few wins and then come back and join us in the PT next year.
Marcos Altur
- The Spanish talent market went relatively untouched this year and we surely came out with a lot of great deals starting with Altur. A future 80 cobbler for 80,000 euros is an unbelievable deal. Combined with Domene and Ruiz we should have a strong cobble force to be reckoned with in 3-4 years. Never thought you would see that would you? But for now he will spend his first season with Boeing - Vivacom helping Geraint Thomas dominate the CT circuit.
Moises Duenas
- Included in the Koldo Gil transfer, Duenas was a key helper for Anton in the mountains last season. However to bring in the aging Champion Gil we need to free up some of the wage cap. So to do so Duenas needed to transfer out because of his 70,000 salary. We do wish him the best of luck and look forward to watching him race in the Pro Tour.
Julian Rodas & Craig Lewis
- The man that stunned everybody in Tachira and the USA helper are taking their talents to MTN - WBR after one of your first transfers of the season. Both managers came out with what they wanted so overall a win-win trade.
Edwin Parra Bustamante & Francisco Colorado
- The other two Colombians are packing their backs and heading out to Boeing - Vivacom. They should have no problem making an immediate impact and hopefully causes havoc in the CT mountains.
Complete Squad Is Available Here
The Future - Squad Development
With all these inexperienced talented riders signing, the coaches, trainers, and I thought a nice development chart/plan would be needed so our "Rivals" could see where our program is headed in the next few years.

Intresting read about an intresting transfer season for you. You signed some great Spanish talents! Barrio will ofcourse be a very valuable puncher in the CT, and even more next year. The other Spanish talents were all cobblers, I though about them for a while but that is not a part of focus for Spanish teams so they went quite cheap. Good luck in the season!

Team PrivatBank is from Ukraine, not Russia (you mentioned that with Maksimov).
But it was a great read, you have a very nice team also, apart from sprint and cobbled area. Popovych is looking to some battles with Abal and Anton, as you have two same goals with us in Romania and Kenya.

@Avin: He bought a house in Russia and PrivatBank is allowing him to stay their with his family for the season while loan. He was getting home sick after spending last season here in Spain, so it's a good change for him.

This is an awesome team imo... Also nice to see that you don't have a pure nationalistic team. I like when people focus on having majority of riders from one area, but when they go all-out nationalistic i'm not really up for it anymore.
So this team looks like the perfect mixture for my likings. I will aim to do something similar in the future - Only with french riders.

Glad you like it SotD, I really like how it turned out as well. When you start to turn more french we would love to take Contador off your hands, I always felt he would look great in CSC colors.
