@Ian Butler and sutty68: Thanks. It's great to see that you guys are following and commenting.
Tour of California: Stage 7
A tough mountain stage with the finish on Mount Baldy. Dekker will try to get the leader's jersey.
Rujano and Barbosa started the fireworks early on Mt. Baldy. Barbosa is quickly gapping everyone.
Dekker is leading the chase. Gadret and Colom are trying to following him. Yellow jersey Illiano is clearly struggling behind.
Barbosa kept going and took a nice victory. His second after a bunch sprint victory.
Gadret closed the gap to Rujano to finish 3rth. Colom and Dekker complete the top 5. Now let's see were Illiano finishes.
The leader comes in next 20" behind Dekker. Not enough to defend his jersey. But it's not Dekker who is the new leader. Barbosa also takes the leader's jersey.
Top 5
GC
Dekker did enough to overtake Illiano but we hadn't expect Barbosa to be so strong.

Damn, so close to the lead.
I hope there'll be another chance.
Though 2nd is still a good place, but first is a lot better |

@aidanvn13: I was a bit surprised that he could take so much time as I was actually only looking at Illiano for the GC.
@Ian Butler: It was close. 2nd is still great though/
@sutty68: Thanks, winning would have been better though.
Tour of California: Stage 8
The tour of Cali ends with a flat stage. Brown will go for a top 10 but beating Hunter and Barbosa will be tough.
Niermann joined the break of the day but the whole group was brought back by Liberty Seguros and Barloworld.
Trying to challenge Hunter, Rabobank made a sprint train for Brown. De Groot and Van Bon are in front of Brown.
Our train didn't work very well so Brown didn't even reach the top 10. Hunter and Barbosa fighted for the win but the leader could never pass Hunter.
Top 5
GC
We tried but our leadout train didn't work very well so we can't blame Brown.

Hey guys,
This is my first blog post this season. I know it's rather early but I won't give my own take after every stage cause that would take some time. It's not that I don't want to invest that time in you but I could spend it better recuperating. I'm just back home from California after a great 8 days. It was my first race after the winter break and I had no hopes at the start. But the first stage featured a hard hill on the end and I felt really great. I didn't attack though knowing that we didn't want to defend the jersey the whole race. This made me feel very confident that I could win this race but the uphill finishes decided otherwise. With first Illiano, then Zabriskie and later Barbosa there was always one rider who was stronger as me. In the end, I finished 2nd which was still great considering it was my first race of the year. I'm now preparing myself to do two cobbled classics in Belgium. The Omloop and Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne are not really made for me but I want to test myself on the cobbles. I don't have any expectations though. See you then!
Thomas..
