No question I am excited to see you at the TdU if Ciolek is your leader there.
Top 5 is possible for him even with the hill top if he has a form of ~60+ that early. That`s the big IF. |

Ciolek should consider shaving his stache. Pretty dirty imo
Good luck for TDU.

Thanks all, yea agreed about Ciolek's chances ( and stache too ). We would hope for a Top 5 and a very sneaky stage victory, but with that startlist, it will be tough Not playing PCM in 4 months won't help either Pheww, took me a while but the TdU preview is up
Santos Tour Down Under
We start the real season with the Pro Tour Race in Down Under. It's the first big race this season, but many will take this as training for the future races in March where it's said the real racing begins. Nonetheless we will fight out for victory here as many other teams.
All 18 PT Teams participate in Australia as also the 4 wildcard teams Androni, Europcar, Cofidis and UnitedHealthcare.

Omega Pharma QuickStep - Tour Down Under Team
Our team consists of one clear leader, young riders and domestiques. Ciolek is our leader, one of our best sprinters and good hilly rider, he will fight for both sprints and overall classifications with his 54 points of fitness he isn't in the best shape, but it's a decent start and should improve. We don't expect great results in first few stages though.
Rest of the team consists of our rider with best form at the moment. Pauwels will be our main domesitque for Ciolek on Willunga and will himself go for King of Mounatains Jersey. Kwiatkowski, Vermote and Van Keirsbulck are here for the experience, and hopefully they will learn a lot from here.

GC Favourites
***** Valverde
**** Uran, Van Avermaet
*** Roche, Petacchi, Freire
** Ciolek, Davis, Matthews, Goss
* Roberts, Devolder, Astarloza, Gasparotto
Sprint Favourites
**** Cavendish
*** Farrar, Greipel
** Freire, Petacchi, Bennati
* Ciolek, Ventoso, Goss, Bos
The starlist here in Down Under is full of star sprinters. We will see battles of arguably the five fastest riders in the world. We have never seen such strong startlist here before, so we can expect tough race, definitely in sprints.
With the Willunga being Hill Top finish, puncheurs will have a chance to win this race. Valverde looks like the biggest name, and if he's in decent form he might smash it too. Uran will be his biggest rival on that stage. Freire and Van Avermaet will be big favourites too, as both can sprint well and climb with the best.
We can expect, an excting and very intresting bit of racing here, we will know more about the favourites from the race tomorrow, as we will learn the how the form of other sprinters fears.

Surprised not to see Haussler here after his performance at the Nationals.
Good for you probably.
Good luck. |

@roturn – Indeed, dunno about Haussler’s decision, but it will help us definitely. Thank you for the support
jona777 – Thank you very much
sutty68 – Thank you, I want the team I pic to be realistic to the real life so that’s why I choose the team. Mainly for the form too, and from experience as we don’t need need a lead out here, so it’s better to give young riders ride.
Hope you right about Ciolek, seeing the list he isn’t in Top 5 sprinter and not best form, we might have a chance in later stages, but it will be tough in the first two or three. Thank you
Schleck96 – Thank you Schleck
markDW – Welcome to the forum Mark, and special thanks to you for commenting on my story Hope you will enjoy it and comment regularly Thanks again.
FreitasPCM – Thanks Freitas, it will be tough, but we will definitely try
Again, I was bit unlucky as I had the report ready, but then my brother deleted all of it, so I will have to retype it today. That means there will be two reports, one later in afternoon and one at night. So stay tuned as we got to a decent start in Down Under

Tour Down Under - Stage 1
Prospect - Clare
First stage of this year's Tour Down Under is mostly flat with few hills that shouldn’t cause any major problems. Cavendish should be the rider to beat here, along Farrar, Pettachi and Greipel, this should make for one hell of finale.
2012 Cycling Season is about to begin !
There were many attacks in the opening stages of the race, but none succeeded. The fans can enjoy the new looks of the 2012 peleton.
With 80km to go the breakaway of the day formed. It includes Sébastien Turgot ( Team Europcar ), Jacopo Guarnieri ( Astana Pro Team ), Jimmy Casper ( AG2R La Mondiale ) and world renowned and a local rider, Stuart O'Grady (GreenEdge Cycling Team ). There will be a lot of cheers for him trough the stage.
The break was never allowed more than 3 minute gap, controlled by Lotto and BMC respectively, with Sky and Garmin giving a hand. All those teams with a great chance of victory today.
With 12km to go, the OPQS riders have done their job for today. You couldn’t wish for a better position than Cavendish’s wheel ! Now Ciolek has to keep his wheel and try to get to nice sprint at the end, although he is slowly already losing his red bar.
After few scraps and at one point loosing Cav’s wheel, Ciolek is back again looking in great position, with not great endurance to sprint though. His red bar is half empty by now. On the other side, Hondo gives Petacchi a great lead-out, but with 2.5km will Petacchi go into the wind too early ?
50m to go and it’s going to be a close battle between the four riders. Cavendish had best lead-out, but Farrar’s seems to have amazing acceleration at the end. Petacchi hit the wind too early, and won’ take the victory.
Farrar triumphs in a dominant fashion, although the stage could have played out differently if Petacchi waited longer to start his sprint. Cavendish will have to improve to win here, as Farrar looks in great shape. OPQS reaction following in the report.

Youth Jersey
1 | Jacopo Guarnieri | Astana Pro Team | s.t. | 3h18'37 | 2 | Daniel Oss | Liquigas - Cannondale | 3h18'39 | + 2 | 3 | Ben Swift | Sky Procycling | s.t. | + 2 | 4 | Denis Galimzyanov | Katusha Team | s.t. | + 2 | 5 | Anthony Roux | FDJ - BigMat | s.t. | + 2 |
Team’s Reaction
It was an impressive win by Farrar, Ciolek had perfect wheel and perfect position to win. Why he didn’t then ? He didn’t have the stamina at the end, his red bar was empty in the last 200m and he was going “backwards”. The team did everything perfect, so we couldn’t do much more on this stage. We just hope Ciolek will have better daily form on the next stage, and his general form will increase. But this stage show how tough competition will be here, with those names in Top 10.

It's a nice start of the season. Obviously the others are better sprinters, and of course the shape never helps, but Ciolek can improve throughout the race. |
