Stage 1
Today's first stage is one for the sprinters and hopefully will Drujon be able to get a positive result here. Today’s big favourites are the two Cofidis riders, Dumoulin and Duque while Kenny Van Hummel is also a strong bet to take the first stage of the race.
Mandrazo tried everything to get away from the peloton but unfortunately then he didn’t have enough power to be part of today's fifteen riders big breakaway.
They wasn’t allowed to fight for the stage win and with less than 20 kilometres to go was the breakaway over. We didn’t take part in the chase, since the lads only had to focus on Moreau and Drujon.
We didn’t get Drujon in a good position for the sprint but the same thing can’t be said about Dumolin because his Cofidis team did a brilliant job to give him the best chance to win the stage but would he be able to cross the line as today's winner?
Yes he could! There was never any doubt really that Dumoulin wouldn’t win the stage and then the newly demoted protour team could enjoy a great start of Etoile de Besseges.

It wasn’t in any way Caisse d’Epargnes day today and we can only hope that the lads can do better for tomorrow. Drujon is a better sprinter than his 11. place showed today and tomorrow will be a good chance for him to crack into top 10.

Stage 2
Today will be the first chance of the race to get some points for the hill jersey and Caisse d’Epargne will once again try to get a rider out for todays breakaway. Tomorrow awaits the queen stage of the race, so Moreau have to stay out of problems while Drujon will have another chance to shine.
Our experienced rider Garcia Acosta was the first rider to launch a attack from the peloton but once again was it not meant for Caisse d’Epargne to have a rider in front of the peloton. It was a punch in the face for the team and especially Garcia Acosta but Cofidis seems to have a bad attitude when a rider from our team tries to get away.
We did eventually help the other sprinter teams keeping the breakaway in sight because Drujon was looking quite strong and with 18 kilometres left of the stage the breakaway was over.
Drujon was alone in the sprint but our sprinter didn’t give up and he managed to get the wheel of another fast rider, Weissinger!
He couldn’t manage to go past the Voralberg – Corratec rider who also took the stage win. Drujon still managed to cross the line as six which was a impressive result since he had used much energy to get a good position for the final kilometres.

Drujon really showed that you don’t have to be part of a sprinter team like Team Columbia to get some good results. It was a great performance by him and tomorrow will be our Captain, Moreau, turn to fight for the overall lead.

Yeah but i'm still a little frustrated that I haven't been able to give Drujon better circumstances for the sprints - but that's something I will look to change in July perhaps

Stage 3
The queen stage of this years Etoile de Besseges can give us some good action. Some of the best hill riders have to try go for the stage win because the remaining two stages are completely flat. Duque, Voekler and Moreau will all want to win but the stage can end in a mass sprint if the riders are holding too much back.
The first 30 kilometres was full of attacks and even through almost every team had a rider out then it was only 3 riders who managed to get away from the Peloton.
The breakaway was getting more and more time to the Peloton and Ackermann from the little Voralberg team won the first hill sprint of the day. After him followed his two breakaway companions, BMC’s Loder and Bretagnes Bideau.
On the second climb of the day was Ackermann too slow to react to get another maximum points for the hill jersey. Bideau won the sprint but the breakaway had grown to six riders. Behind them was the dane Brian Vandborg and the Peloton was 1.33” after him and just 2 minuttes after the front group. Also the former tour de france stage winner Cyril Dessel was trying to make contact to the front group.
When the Peloton was hitting todays last climb of the stage, had Louder attacked the other riders in the breakaway but Codidis was having full control over all the riders who was between Louder and the Peloton.
Louder managed to win the last hill sprint but with under 40 seconds to the Peloton would it be a miracle if he could end up as today’s stage winner. Non of the favourites had made a move on the climb and when Louder was down in the Peloton with under 18 kilometres to go were we preparing for another mass sprint but…Sandy Casar and Thomas Voekler attacked on a very little hill and Moreau together with some other GC riders went after them! Voekler was incredible strong and he passed Casar and only Moreau could close the gap to the popular Frenchman. Our Captain was suffering but the gap from the two in front and to the chasing group was growing for every kilometre!
With less than five kilometres to go was it going to be a duel between Voekler and Moreau about who would cross the line as today’s stage winner. With more than a minute to a group with some of the strongest GC contenders of the race – was Moreau looking to end up in top 3 after this stage. Voekler made the first move in the sprint but Moreau was with under 900 meters going to pass him!
Side by side were the two rivals with under 400 meters to go but Voekler managed to hold off the Caisse d’Epargne rider and take a great win for him and his team. Liquigas Mauro Finetto won the chasing group sprint and took third.

It was a fantastic stage by Moreau who is almost secure to finish in to top 3 of the overall classification. It will be very hard to win the race with two easy stages left and Voekler was looking very strong today. We will once again turn over attention over to Drujon who I hope can battle for a top 10 result tomorrow.

After yesterday exiting stage will the riders now once again be met by a flat and easy stage. Today’s 151 kilometres will probably be a Breakaway versus Peloton battle and it would be a surprise if the sprinters wont have the chance to battle for today's stage win. Dumoulin has been in sensational form so far but another Frenchmen, Bonnet, will try beat the strong Cofidis rider. For us will Drujon be our best bet for a top 10 finish.
12 riders was out for the breakaway of the stage and they had around seven minutes to the Peloton that was controlled by teams of the 2 leaders in the GC – Voekler and Dumoulin. The pace as extremely high because the 12 riders upfront wasn’t interested in giving up a possible stage win and the pace was killing all the Caisse d’Epargne riders except for Moreau. Our captain was the only rider from Caisse d’Epargne who was sitting with the peloton, when the breakaway was finally caught. Drujon would not have a chance to sprint for the win today with less than 10 kilometres to go. The Cofidis rider El Fares managed to lead-out Dumoulin perfectly with the finish line in sight of the sprinters! Bonnet was never near of Dumoulin and the inform Cofidis rider could once again celebrate another stage win. It was a strong performance by not only Dumoulin but also the Cofidis team, who had sacrificed everything for Dumoulin. Even Duque was being used in the hunt for the breakaway.

Tomorrow awaits the final stage of this years Etoile de Besseges and even through it contains a few hills then it will with 90 % security end in a mass sprint finish.
It was a bad day for the Caisse d’Epargne team but Moreau was strong enough to stay out of trouble and defend his third place in the general classification. Drujon was not strong enough today but i hope he will be able to sprint for a good result tomorrow.
(I somehow managed to delete all the pictures for the stage, but that wont happen again)

Challenge Volta a Mallorca or Ciclista a Mallorca is a hilly stage race, where there will be plenty of opportunities for the hill riders to attack. I have perhaps fielded the strongest roster for the race with Alejandro Valverde as our undisputed leader. If Alejandro has a bad day or he can’t fight for the overall victory, then we got the Spanish champion Ruben Plaza who is a rider i expect a lot from for this season. The team is so strong that we will be able to control any breakaway for Alejandro and a top 3 spot in the GC is our goal.
Alejandro is the biggest favourite of the race but he will face some strong competition from riders like Damiano Cunego, Robert Gesink and Kim Kirchen. It’s a strong peloton that the race director has managed to take part of Challenge Volta a Mallorca and there are many riders who will try to fight for stage wins and perhaps the leaders jersey. The two first stages are suited for the sprinters and the biggest favourite for taking a win or two is Petacchi. The last three stages of the race are very hilly and we will probably see some very good cycling in this years edition of Challenge Volta a Mallorca.

Yes indeed but Pedersen seems to have a lot of potential after his performance in Down Under. If Cardoso is in good shape then I believe he can get be a very good bet for a stage win and perhaps even a top 5 result in the overall classification.

That´s the big problem in Footon, only Cardoso and Pedersen are good, the rest you can throw away,as a Pro tour team they are very weak to challenge anything.Good luck for Mallorca.

Stage 1
The first stage of the race is one for the sprinters and we are just going to help the sprinter team if necessary to control the stage. Valverde is having a good sprint but since the finish is not at a small hill then we will try to get him through the stage without any problems.
We didn’t even have to control the peleton – since Lampre for Petacchi and RadioShack for Gert Steegmans wasn’t afraid to take responsibility. In front of the peloton was a group of 10 riders where Kevin Hulmans was the most notable one. As so many times before was it not meant to be the day of the breakaway and since Valverde had really good legs did we decide to let Lastras lead Alejandro to a good position for the sprint. Then the worst thing happened as Lastras crashed just before the final kilometres of the stage! Thankfully did he not take Valverde with him or any other rider – but it was enough to destroy any chance for a good result for Alejandro. RadioShack had been brilliant for Steegmans and the former Quick-Step rider took a great stage win and his strongest competitor for the point jersey, Petacchi, was having huge problems with this Lampre team in the sprint.

Stage 5
When the riders have completed the 145 kilometres of this final stage of the Etoile de Besseges, will we probably see another mass sprint finish. The jerseys are all pretty much secured for the riders since both Dumoulin and Voekler looks very safe to win the overall GC and the point jersey. There are some hills today that could bring some action but that’s more for the battle about the hill jersey of the race.
Acosta won the first hill sprint of the stage, but once again did a Caisse d’Epargne rider not manage to be part of an early breakaway. Today was there 11 riders out looking to beat the sprinters for the stage victory.
Cofidis and Skill – Shimano was holding the gap to the breakaway and the 11 riders never got more than five minutes to the peloton.
The pace was extremely high in the Peloton and that was certainly leaving a mark on most of the riders. The breakaway didn’t give up that easily but with 15 kilometres left to go was the sprinter teams lining up for another mass sprint finish.
Then the unthinkable happened! A big crash in the peloton happened with less than nine kilometres to go and no other than the leading rider Thomas Voekler was one of the unlucky riders to go down.
Even though the leader of the race was crashed, then the sprinter teams didn’t stop pulling the peloton and it would take a great effort for Voekler if he was going to protect his lead to Dumoulin and of course…Moreau.
More riders crashed as the peloton was loosing riders and a big group lead by Voekler tried to close the gap to the peloton.
Liquigas eyed a chance to get a stage win and yesterday’s podium finisher, Finotto, did a good job leading out there fast man Sabatini in the sprint. He had AG2R’s Mondory right behind in his wheel – the sprint had begun!
With under a kilometre left did Mondory overtake Sabatini, and tried Dumoulin to close the gap to Mondory further down.
No one could beat the AG2R rider today and even though another Frenchmen, Bonnet managed to finish as second after coming out of nowhere and Dumoulin took third so the point jersey was defiantly secured for the Cofidis rider…Voekler had not managed to overcome the heavy odds and he came in many minutes after the peloton but the Caisse d’Epargne rider Moreau was sitting very well with the peloton..

After the dramatic stage could Dumoulin also call him the winner of the Etoile de Besseges 2010 but with a bitter taste in his mouth. Voekler had a terrible day and ended outside of the top 10 general classification. Moreau managed to finish second thanks to the crash Voekler had but it was not the way we would had wanted it to happen. Our thoughts are with Voekler but that doesn’t change the positive feeling I have after this race.
We got a top 3 result through Moreau and the team did fine to protect our captain for most of the race. Drujon had an all right race, where his best result was a six place in one of the flat stages. The only negative thing about the performance of the team, was that we weren’t in any of the breakaway but since all the stages ended up in mass sprints (except for the queen stage) then it thankfully didn’t cost us a good chance to get a stage win.
