nice to being able to join the breakaway on a race that otherwise Max wouldn't have gained visibility.
now straight to the flat/cobbled WC!

Ulrich Ulriksen
Nice for McRettin to contribute to a winning team in the Worlds, winning not something that happens often at his trade team.

Overall a very shitty season, without any breakaways. Hope AVA won't be affected by this too much in his long term dev, and he beocmes more active next season.

Thanks for another wrap up and another season, Abhi!

Thanks as well, Abhi. Really enjoyed following HBA flounder and McRettin make a solid start to his career.

Looking forward to him getting a little better.

Thanks for the fast pace of the season Abhi. A top 20 on a stage the highlight for Stanley, hope he can make this a more regular thing next season.

Alunderis RTG 2019 season summary

Virginijus decided to join what is arguably the best team in the world, knowing full well that he'd remain anonymous among the world-class team mates of Quickstep. But he played his small role in winning the overall WT teams ranking – by the slimmest of margins against Ineos - which made him proud, it could be considered to be his first title.

i.imgur.com/TlkeGTW.jpg

His first race with his new team, the Paz y Oro, was already his biggest personal success of the season, he finished 60th overall, a career best. But his real highlight was making the breakaway on stage 4 of the Tour de France. His mother cried when she saw him on TV and heard the commentators speculate that her son could become a great climber one day.

He went on to finish the Tour, a great achievement in itself, and played his part to help Alaphilippe onto the podium. He used his share of the prize money to put money down on a modest house back home. Alunderis did not have any DNFs nor crashes all season.

We saw him again and again working hard for his captain, usually chasing the breakaway for Alaphilippe, making him instrumental in Alaphilippe's victories in San Sebastian and Montreal. Though it did not pay off for him personally, he finished with just 14 points, the fewest of all RTG riders.

He will again work hard on his climbing in the off-season and hopes to leave more of a mark in the mountains, maybe even score a few KOM points, which have eluded him so far.

Thank you, Abhishek! Racing more and training less didn't pay off in terms of points, but I knew that ahead of the season. He still beat Dowsett! Smile Seeing my rider more often (in the results list) and reading he was doing his job as a domestique was worth it, though.

After a great first year, all is falling down for Elias Abdessabour... guess it’s time to change teams. Pfft

In anticipation of an the upcoming 2020 season thought I would highlight some RTG history.

In this first post we are going to focus on All Times Points:

Among the riders that win the big races this is the top 10 cumulative point scorers:

RankPriorRiderPoints
11Alejandro Valverde 9,844
24Julian Alaphilippe 9,192
32Chris Froome 9,002
43Peter Sagan 8,210
514Tom Dumoulin 5,590
67Michael Matthews 5,525
711Vincenzo Nibali 5,023
86Romain Bardet 4,879
910Alexander Kristoff 4,781
1013Thibaut Pinot 4,759

Valverde has been an RTG legend and continues to lead but he too must age. Allaphilippe closed in from 4th to 2nd and looks to be heir apparent. Dumoulin the other big mover this year as he wins the Giro, takes 2nd at the TDF and Tirreno and 3rd at the Tour de Suisse.

Three veterans dropped out of the top 10 - Porte, Van Avermaet and Mollema.

Now for the important riders - the RTG boys, points reflect cumulative total:

RankPriorRiderPoints
12Rocco Bianchi Campagna 64
23Jens Christiansen 55
34Bernard Garin 49
31Virginijus Alunderis 49
55Elias Abdessabour 46
56Flosi Thorson 46
76Arnout Van Aarle 45
89Daniel Clark 43
910Levi De Groot 40
920Maximiliaan Vansibraert 40
1111Mattia Tornello 38
1225Tornike Zurabiani 37
1314Jhon Santiago Garcia Cerravalos 36
1414Nagy Levente 35
1523Andrey Yanakiev 33
1522Harry Stanley 33
1725Donald McRettin 30
1820Hector Cesar Ernesto Fernandez Hernandez 28
198Jørgen Hillestad 25
2012Irfan Al-Amin 19
2012Mario Rizzi 19
2216Thomas Hinault 15
2225Jorgen Hillestad 15
2417Bradley Nettle 11
2417Guilherme Barbosa 11
2619Alexander Forsberg 6
2723Ariel Pryde 1

Alunderis drops from the top of the table as his meager 14 points saw him go from 1st to tied for 3rd. Campagna the big winner as he added 33 points. Further down the table Maximiliaan Vansibraert jumpd 11 slots. But next season is new ball game with the U25 calendar and it seems likely these points will be just a blip in the rear view mirror.
