I guess that's another win for me in Dauphine. I think i'm the only one to have Porte + another podium finisher, and also guessing right the bonus. Vamos!!

Criterium Dauphine Result
Podium
1) Jakob Fuglsang
2) Richie Porte
3) Dan Martin
Jakob Fuglsang pulled off an unlikely upset victory, turning a high finish into a GC victory with stage wins in two of the last three stages of the Dauphine. Despite a flying ITT and a good ride throughout the race, Porte could not mark Astana's attack on Stage 8 and left himself with too much to do at the end.
Till stage 7, it seemed a lot of people where locked on for points for both Porte and Froome. Fuglsang and Martin's performance on Stage 8 meant otherwise. Once again, and it's becoming a habit now, Aquarius pulls off the win. He does not even wait for me to announce it . Being the only one to have picked Dan Martin gives him the extra five points to pull ahead of half a dozen others. Porte was the most popular pick, only Ian and Croatia not picking him. The latter was the only one with a zero score here.
Here is how the table looks like now:
Name | Races Entered | Bonuses | Total Points | Raziz | 23 | 255 | 750 | Selwink | 23 | 270 | 745 | purepasd | 23 | 195 | 720 | jandal7 | 22 | 245 | 680 | Marcovdw | 23 | 170 | 660 | AbhishekLFC | 22 | 185 | 640 | Aquarius | 17 | 160 | 640 | emre99 | 22 | 185 | 580 | Croatia14 | 23 | 125 | 295 | Ian Butler | 5 | 35 | 225 | Luxemburger | 7 | 90 | 165 | Squire | 4 | 60 | 100 | trekbmc | 2 | 0 | 0 |
Purepasd loses some ground as the others around him all pick up 15 points more than him by answering the bonus question correctly. The only change of position happens with Aquarius moving to tied 6th with AbhishekLFC. Jandal gets closer to the podium, while Croatia comes under ever-increasing pressure from Ian.
With the Tour de Suisse game already running, and a clear favourite not emerging from the early trends, there are chances of the table shaking up in a week's time. See you all again then...

I was so close to pick Fuglsang, only been fear of Aru captaining which is why I didn't pick him at least Caruso might be a good unique pick

Like Jandal keeps proving again and again, might be better to choose with your instincts than with your head going ahead

Well, there is a chance to even win the race if Cannondale wins a stage

The law of averages has finally caught up with Aquarius .
I'd completely forgotten about Ion being the most popular pick and out of contention now. Reichenbach and Pantano are big losses too. This will be a very low scoring game!

Podium
1) Simon Spilak
2) Damiano Caruso
3) Steven Kruijswijk
On first impression, the podium in this race wouldn't look too much out of place. Spilak has won here before in 2015 and Kruijswijk's capabilities are well known. Caruso, too, is an accomplished rider, but mainly employed with domestique duties. The real surprise comes with the results of the popular picks.
All but one member picked Ion Izagirre for the podium, who, on the back of a poor start to the race, could only manage 6th place at the end. Giro winner Tom Dumoulin was a cautiously optimistic pick of four members, but his form was always a question. He dropped out on Stage 6 to disappoint his selectors. Jarlinson Pantano, Sebastien Reichenbach and Angel Lopez were other riders who failed to live up to their prediciton hype.
Croatia's unique pick of Caruso gives him good points while Marco and Raziz pick up maximum points for Spilak. Aquarius has a rare off race, the only one to have answered in the positive for a Cannondale stage win. Everyone but the Aquarius picks up point for the bonus question. In the case of four of our predictors, it's their only points for this race!
The table looks like this after race 24 of the World Tour calendar:
Name | Races Entered | Bonuses | Total Points | Raziz | 24 | 270 | 780 | Selwink | 24 | 285 | 765 | purepasd | 24 | 210 | 735 | jandal7 | 23 | 260 | 695 | Marcovdw | 24 | 185 | 690 | AbhishekLFC | 23 | 200 | 655 | Aquarius | 18 | 160 | 640 | emre99 | 23 | 200 | 595 | Croatia14 | 24 | 140 | 320 | Ian Butler | 6 | 50 | 245 | Luxemburger | 7 | 90 | 165 | Squire | 4 | 60 | 100 | trekbmc | 2 | 0 | 0 |
Raziz's win open's up his lead at the top. Marco catches up to Jandal in a middle of the season deja vu of last year's battle. AbhishekLFC manages to put some daylight to Aquarius, outscoring the on-rushing late starter after a handful of races. The bottom of the table looks the same and there aren't any actual position changes after this race.
Next up, it's another biggie. The Tour de France holds the potential to shake things up majorly once again. Look out for the game to be opened some time next week.
Before that, the next set of Year Long Questions will be posted, this time concentrating on Grand Tours. Stay tuned...

Has Spilak officially claimed the title of "Mr Suisse", being the successor of Costa?
Hope so . |
