Great victories for Lobato and Valverde. Good to see Spanish / Basque teams win the NCs. |

Oh, I never realised I should be doing one. I'm in Ireland without PCM till Sunday, so I can't get it done before that.

No worries, we need to wait for the other ones anyway. If someone has time for Australia, that would be awesome
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Since when has Valverde been a better TTist than Contador? Tactics weren't the best in the RR but I suppose on a profile like that Bertie was never really the favourite.

I was rather surprised too but I guess it's hilly advantage of Valverde that made the difference in the end.

All right, I'll do Australia as well, but it will most likely be a fairly short report.

Australian Championships
On paper this looks like a battle between Porte, Dennis, Durbridge and Meyer with not a lot others likely to challenge for a win.
Cameron Meyer makes sure Orica gets a decent time early on as he is the first starter.
Mitchell Birt is the first non-Orica rider to manage a top 3 on the both intermediate times with guys like Clarke and Sutehrland already past.
Porte is even faster though and takes best intermediate 11 seconds faster than Meyer.
All riders past chrono 1 status:
Evans is looking strong today as he loses no time on Meyer between the first two intermediates. 28 seconds is the time he needs to gain in the last 15 km.
The hope soon fades though as Evans’ time is beaten by both Rogers, Durbridge and Dennis, currently holding best time.
All riders past Chrono 2 status:
Rohan Dennis takes best time less than a second faster than Meyer in goal with Porte coming soon after.

Solid ride from Mitchell, let's hope he can build up on that in the RR.

Lucky number 13 for Wurf, surely he wins the RR now. |

Not too bad there for Mitchell Birt. He should have a decent chance in the RR if he gets in the right breakaway.

This race actually deserved a more thorough report than this, but I had neither the time not the motivation for that so you'll have to fill the gaps with your imagination...
Australian Championships - RR
For some reason the bookmakers seem to expect the big names to fight it out. It will come down to how dedicated Orica will be in the chase though as they could very well end up being overpowered by a break.
Tanner starts the early break after about 1 km of racing.
He is accompanied by Von Hoff, Dempster and Wurf and with 144 km to go they already have 2’40
130 km and 4’30’’
120 km and 5’06’’
110 km and 5’40’’
100 km and 6’06’’
Orica is getting some good help from Sky and Saxo-Tinkoff to keep the break within reach.
90 km and 5’35’’
80 km and 4’53’’
70 km and 4’13’’
60 km and 3’36’’
50 km and 2’24’’
40 km and 2’33’’
30 km and 2’17’’
Still no action anywhere
25 km and 2’23’’
Gerrans starts the action in the pack!
That starts a massive wave of attacks from everyone and with 15 km to go this is the situation.
12 km left and Wurf attacks his breakaway companions with all the big names chasing hard close behind.
Rogers, Evans, Gerrans and Porte are united at the 10 km mark with 48 second to Wurf in front.
Lots of attacking everywhere as Gerrans tries to bridge the gap alone.
With 3,7 km left it’s Dempster alone in front but the gaps are extremely small.
The NetApp rider maintains a small gap going into the last km.
Von Hoff is coming fast from behind!
But too late!
Tanner is strongest in the sprint for 3rd after Gerrans have wasted a lot of energy by insisting on always being alone on the last 25 km...
