So the Vuelta a Catalunya (oldest tour in Spain) disappears but the awesome superpopular Tour of Bejing stays. Great! |

UCI smartness: Let's expand cycling to the world. *destroys the calendar* |

Who cares about popularity when there is money to be made!
Actually not as bad as i thought (yes really). Was expecting a number of new races rather than the one. Also expecting some more of the established ones to disappear, which didn't happen as well.
Could be better, could be a whole lot worse. But frankly the top level of cycling needs a big shake up...

Not that I didn't assume Ryder doped before but I am now hearing that he did with Garmin? Okay, well, I basically can't root for anyone anymore.
And they get rid of Catalunya, but add the Dubai Tour, Qatar, and Oman. You gotta be fricking kidding me. This is ridiculous. How could this be legitimately passed? Wasn't expansion McQuaid's

Errr, unless I'm missing something (always a strong possibility) then this is well before his time with Garmin |

What the hell is this?
No Catalunya, no Basque, no E3? But Beijing survives? |

No Catalunya, no Basque, no E3? But Beijing survives? And they'd rather add the Tour of Dubai to the 2nd division. This can't actually happen right?

I'm sure the calendar is highly provisional and the source of the info isn't even clear yet but I'd say it deals with some of the problems.
Each to their own and all that but some of the races that are less prestigious get downgraded, I'm personally not concerned about the shortening of some stage races, the overlap of major races is addressed and the season's length is shortened (edit - well slightly, just looked a little closer ). It's not exactly how I'd have it but personally I wouldn't see it as a disaster zone either.

I still feel that riders being overworked is something for management to address as well as the riders. They should know their limits. It's not the UCI's problem.

If we play 'connect the dots', Hesjedal's 'palmares' of teams isn't exactly revealing of a clean rider. Mountain bike rider too. Hardly surprising. |

Yep. We all did the "hope hes clean" thing after he won the Giro, because his team history is a little shady.

Good that Hesjedal confesses really, because Rasmussen has no actual hard evidence. Many other riders would threaten to sue him. Also good that Rasmussen breaks the omerta and actually calls out on a rider that isn't caught yet.
A sad thing is that it doesn't seem to bother me anymore. When a rider got caught I used to be like "Oh no, not him as well", now I'm more like "Meh, another one bites the dust I guess.". This whole doping bussines is making me more and more cynical. |

Not surprised by Hesjedal at all, it has been pretty much a public secret for a while now. I'd also be shocked if he stopped using it. This strikes me as damage limitation (like Armstrong claiming he didn't use in the comeback).

There are no money in Spain, third of people are unemployed...
I may be the only one who likes the suggested changes, it reflects the need of finding the new markets. People need to be realistic, who needs races which have constant problems with sponsoring.
Cycling is worldwide thing, not just Spain, France, Benelux,Italy only. But what surprises me is any high grade races in USA or GB missing, these should be great markets. Maybe they take into consideration that Horner and Froome will be stripped of their titles in the future.
If things will be like that, we will have worthy teams travelling to China and other exotic countries, because it would be a risk to skip those.
I like the possible return of Bayern-Rundfahrt to higher grade, now establish Peace race and get it there too.

I hate to say it.
But the sport of Proffesional cycling is dying either eay.
With the huge amounts of doping especially with Armstrong. People are starting to believe that everyone in the sport dopes.
Just have to say that.
Sorry

There is E3 and Basque Tour in second tier.
