When you know that on the flat, performance in ITT (cycling in general) comes down to a matter of W/m² of frontal surface, look at the position of the riders head -> back line.
Porte has a particularly excellent position (no matter that Quintana is crushing him), whereas many riders I've seen at the finish have their head way too high.
Also, those who bend their head every five seconds to check their power meter, or because they're struggling (Spilak, hello), lose tiny bits of efficiency every time they do that. |
