He gives all the good people presents in the winter? Paulo sounds amazing!

I'm a happy man after the first stage Grin Grin
Too bad that Steegmans got a mechanical problem, it could have been a lot easier with him
Winners never quit, quitters never win.

It's difficult not to be happy when you're surrounded by Belgians. - Mark Cavendish

Can't say they did a bad job, Goss was delivered perfectly with 250 to go. His sprint on the other hand was weak with 4 guys overtaking him.

Yep, Lancaster and Howard did a good job. Goss is sucking at the moment though.

He should hopefully improve with next days.

With about 6km to go whoever was second in line lost contact with whoever was first in line at the time and a large gap opened up. That would never happen in a better sprint train (old HTC for instance). The final kilometre was great work from them, sure, but everything leading up to it was less than impressive.

But yeah I don't know what happened to Goss' top-end speed lately. He still climbs like he used to but he just doesn't have the big sprint. A bit like Farrar I guess? He was great at one point then seemed to just drop away quite seriously.

Doubt it would have made much difference in the end but apparently Leigh Howard feels he positioned Goss about 20-30m shorter of the line then desired, and into a swift headwind. Cavendish did mention in his interview he was within the red zone quite a bit. So maybe Goss just had a really bad day with the conditions.

Only one way to find out though. Hopefully without Weening being the fourth guy in the train and gaping the entire peleton for a few hundred meters.

I agree.

If you didn't see it live: the pic says something, but this lasted for like 10 seconds. Nice victory for Cav

Gotta love Bouhanni!

I fail to see what Eisel is mad about. Sure, there was a bit of headbutting between Bouhanni and Blythe, but nothing extreme if you ask me.

If he said this, I imagine when it was the Dean-Renshaw incident what he said.

Bouhanni is the only upcoming sprinter that has a similar attitude to Cavendish imo, so he's going split opinion in future years. He's great though!

On the other hand, as riders they're a bit different. Bouhanni is quite a bit slower but can outclimb almost any sprinter by far.

Goss said it as well on the teams backstage pass. Said he was fairly happy with how everything went.
