is it true david harmon has left eurosport?god hope they dont give that idiot kirby the hot seat.
Sounds like he is taking a break from commentating duties on Eurosport for two'ish months rather. Commentating the Tour of Turkey and then he's off on a sabbatical until the Tour de France. Though I could be wrong and he could be coming back for solely for le Tour and then leaving for good. I guess it depends on how you interpret his tweets, but I didn't get that impression personally.
I take it to mean that he is leaving permanently. He might have some log device leave to use before the Tour, then he can do that and leave.

Thanks for all your messages, I'm overwhelmed. It's just a break. I'm not retiring but I am being more selective. Exploring freelancehood. so hes not leaving just taking a break.
Petacchi’s home was searched in April as part of the Mantova-based doping investigation that placed a particular emphasis on his Lampre team and no illegal substances were found at that time.
Not sure if he was "removed" from the investigation later, considering it mainly focuses on the 2009 Lampre team.

Many Lampre riders are currently involved in the investigation (current fan darling: Santambrogio), Petacchi was not one of them, he was found not to be involved at a very early stage.
EDIT: Anyway, the reasons stated above are all possible for his retirement. Personally I think the most likely is that his only reason for doing this last season was to do one last Giro and when he was just told he wouldn't be selected, he retired.

Always liked him in his final years. I liked when people thought he was done and then came back and won the Green Jersey. May have got some help from a "friend" though.

Cyclingnews understands that Petacchi accepts he is no longer competitive in sprint finishes – he has not won a race since last May - but could interested in working for another sprinter.
Last October, Petacchi confirmed to Cyclingnews that he had been approached by Mark Cavendish to serve as his lead-out man prior to signing on again with Lampre for 2013, while helping Cannondale's Peter Sagan in the sprints could also be a possibility. Petacchi is apparently open to offers, with the right project far more important than the money.
"It's wrong to say I've retired. I haven't closed the door on cycling and don't know what the future will bring," Petacchi told Gazzetta dello Sport.
