Geox squad:

The Tre Valle Varesine is the first and the most famous of the Trittico Lombarda. Seen as one of the most prestigious autumn classics in Italy, a strong startingfield is here. Our sponsor TMC wants a top 10 place. We will go for that with Felline and Florencio who both must have the talent to get a top 5. Cunego will probably be to strong but we will use our strong team to try to defeat him.
An 11 men break was formed early but some teams didn't want to give them a big advantage. They were never more as 4' in front of the peloton.
The last hill before the local laps is a place for a lot of attacks. First Kojcan and Rubiano try to jump to the front and later, we see an attack from 3 Geox riders. Sastre, Blanco and Cobo will reach the front together with Rubiano and Kojcan but the pack knows they are dangerous and chases everyone back.
Two riders attacked when everything was back together. Cobo and Frapporti could create a decent gap to the pack. One rider is between them and the pack: Ascani. He will never reach the front though.
For some strange reason, Frapporti doesn't like riding together with Cobo and he attacks from him. The two will ride for a long time with only 25" between them. Strange...
Duarte attacks out the bunch on the third last ascent of the hill. He is followed by Cunego so he drops back to the pack and starts chasing with some teammates. Still 30 km to go.
Cunego would close the gap to Cobo and bring the Spaniard to the front. But both Cobo and Frapporti would get dropped on the penultimate ascent of the hill. The pack is 45" behind.
There, Geox is lining a lot of riders to chase back Cunego. You can see how far Cunego is (together with a doubled Katusha rider) when Brutt attacks. Felline and Florencio still have 5 teammates working for them so they wait.
And that was the good decision as Cunego and Brutt get caught on the descent towards the final hill. The chasing group isn't as big as it looks like cause there are a lot of doubled riders in there.
Cunego would attack again on the final hill and would take the victory with some doubled riders in his wheel. Lots of attacking by the Italian got rewarded.
Behind him, Florencio and Felline have dropped the others and ride to a great 2nd and 3rd place. Very good result for both of them.

For some reason, a rider like Cunego can attack a lot in these hilly classics and beat an entire team that chases him. Probabaly, when you would have caught him, he would have won the sprint as well... Oh well, 2nd and 3rd is a great result!

That is probably because Cunego is some 5-8 points better in hills? And he is always in top form for these autumn classics. Anyway, great race with both your riders

Thanks all! Cunego has a a hill stat of 80. That is 5/6 more as Florencio and Felline so it's normal he beats them.

Geox squad:

The Trittico Lombarda continues with the Coppa Agostini. The profile is again hilly but they are further from the finish as yesterday. This should suit Florencio and Felline better but beating Cunego will again be very tough.
An 11-men break established on the first flat part of the race. But the better punchers dropped the others on the first real hill. The 5 who stay in front are Schumacher, Sarmiento, Reihs, Bertogliatti and Benedetti.
The pack starts the toughest hill on the route with a disadvantage of 4'. We line up all our riders at the front of the bunch and start to up the pace.
Our pace made a lot of victims and now only 25 riders remain in the favourites group. Valls is the only Geox rider who isn't in there. Attacks were impossible due to the hard pace.
The peloton, of what remains, has almost closed the gap to the escapees on the first smaller hill after the longer. Schumacher, Sarmiento and Reihs have a 45" advantage over the group.
Rubiano is the first of the favourites to attack. He has a strong accelaration but is ofcourse chased back by Geox on the descent. The escapees are still a bit in front.
The last possible place to attack, a small hill after the descent, is used by Cunego to attack. He could close the 30" gap to the escapees but they are all chased back by Geox.
As the race would be decided in a sprint, we made a small train in the last couple of kilometres. Duarte is leading out Florencio and Felline.
The last 100 metres were steeper as expected so Felline and Florencio stood no chance agains Brutt and Cunego. It was a close sprint between those two and it looked like Brutt was going to take it but Cunego passed him just before the line to take his 2nd victory in 2 days.

Geox squad:

The third and final race of the Tritico Lombarda is flat. The only hills on the route are at the start and will only be used to form a break so this is a day for the sprinters. We will aim for a top 5 here with Felline in the sprint.
Cheula attacked immediately after the start and got company of 4 other riders. The bunch had no problems with them and they formed the break of the day. Other notable riders are Bono and Horrach.
The chasing in the peloton was organised by 3 teams. Quick-Step, Liquigas and Atlas all had faith in their sprinters (Chicchi, Guarniere and Beuret).
And so, the escapees are almost caught with 20 km to go. Bono still tries to stay away but he wont stay away much longer as his earlier companions.
Under the 5 km banner, 3 sprint trains are leading the pack. A Quick-Step train for Chicchi, a Liquigas train for Guarnieri and a Geox train. Ratto is leading out Pelucchi, Florencio and Felline.
But only 2 trains are still in front under the 1 km banner. Guarnieri and Chicchi come out of there teammates wheels and are sprinting for victory. The Geox train failed again and we are sprinting for a top 10 place.
Although Beuret came strong near the end, Guarniere never was in danger and takes the victory. Beuret 2nd and Chicchi 3rd. The three Geox sprinters finish between places 10 and 15.

La Vuelta a Espana
One week earlier as last year, the Vuelta starts this year at 20/08. The Vuelta will make up for a great fight in the 3rd Grand Tour of the year. This is the first preview talking about the route.
The Vuelta starts at the Costa Blanca with a 15 km long team time trial. THe TTT will not mak to much differences between the favourites but will show who has a good team and who not. The easy stages follow then where the sprinters can go for stage wins.
But already on the 4th day, the riders have the first mountain stage. The finish of the 4th stage is on the famous Sierra Nevada, the top is 2112 metres high, the highest point of the whole Vuelta. Three easier flatter stages follow then before the first weekend starts.
The peloton is then already close to Madrid with the 8th stage going over the most famous climb in the neighbourhoud of Spain's Capital city: the alto de Abantos. The next day starts easy but the last 18 km are the tough climb of the Covatilla to Sierra de Bejar. The 10th stage is the fear of most small climbers in the peloton. A 47 km long time trial around the completely flat Salamanco. The riders then receive their first rest day.
The riders will immediately start climbing again after the rest day as the finish of the 11th stage is in a ski station at the top of the alto de la Manzaneda. An easier stage, probably for a breakaway then follows. Only one easy day as the toughest stages are coming up now. First a mountain stage to Ponferrada where most climbs are in the first part of the day but the two next days are hard.
The 14th stage finishes in Lagos de Somiedo after the ascent of the La Farrapona with another 1st category climb right before that climb. The next day is feared by everyone. By climbers, non-climbers, sport-directors and even the mechanics of the teams. The monster of the Asturias. The Alto de Angliru. 12.2 km, seen as the toughest climb in whole Europe. The battle for the GC will probably be decided here. Luckily for the riders, they don't have to ride the next day as they get a 2nd rest day.
Then a flat stage follows, probably one of the last chances for the sprinters. The 17th stage has the 6th and final summit finish of the Vuelta on Pena Cabarga, is a 6km long climb with a gradient over 10%. Next is a day made for a succeeding breakaway.
The next two stages go true the Basque country. The first time in 33 years that the Vuelta passes true this region. This two days will certainly coloured by great riding from all Euskaltel riders. The last stage in Madrid is nothing more than a parade true the beautiful capital of Spain.

Thanks
Vuelta a Espana
This are the 9 riders who will represent Geox in the Vuelta a Espana.
Denis Menchov
Denis Menchov comes to Spain to do as good as in the Giro earlier this year. He finished 3rd there after a great fight against Anton in the concluding time trial. A podium is again the goal but why wouldn't he do as good as in 2005 and 2007?
Carlos Sastre
Carlos Sastre has gotten old this year. He could only show his old climbing talent once in the Giro where he disappointed massively despite winning one stage. Can he bounce back during the Vuelta or will he become a top-notch domestique?
Fabio Duarte
Fabio Duarte saw his Giro preparation getting bothered by an injury but he comes back in the Vuelta to strike back. He had a good preparation in Portugal with a nice stage win. He will certainly surpise a lot of experts.
Juan Jose Cobo
Il Bizonte is here after a great early season. He probably be one of Menchov's most important domestiques as he can help on all terrains.
David De La Fuente
Vuelta a Mallorca, Volta a Catalunya and Volta a Pais Vasco. De La Fuente has won the mountain-jersey in all three this races and he will aim for that jersey here. He has already gathered a lot of experience in battles for KoM-jersey and is certainly the top favourite to win it this year.
David Blanco
David Blanco comes here after winning the Volta a Portugal for the 5th time. He has a lot of experience in the Vuelta as he always had a leader who fighted for a top place in his Kelme days.
Rafael Valls
Rafeal Valls will ride the Vuelta to help his teammates during the tough mountain stages. The team leaders expect him to shine in the same role as famous mountain domestiques like Smyd, Beltran and Rubiera.
Daniele Ratto
We gave Daniele, only 21 years old, a chance to ride this Vuelta to gain a lot of experience. We don't expect much from him but he will hopefully be able to help his teammates on the easier stages.
David Gutierrez Gutierrez
Gutierrez rides the Vuelta as a real domestique. He will help his teammates whenever with whatever. He will get bottles, give his bike to a teammate when needed and far more.

Strong team for La Vuelta. Interested to see the start list, but Menchov should do well regardles.
David Blanco looks a lot like Carlos Sastre...
And that picture of Daniele Ratto always makes me laugh
