Stage 9, and a lot of riders fear this one. Not of the high climbs, but the combination of 200+-kilometres, 6 categorized climbs and up and down all day in the Massif Central, will exhaust everyone before tomorrow's rest day.
Km 43.5 - Côte de Massiac - 3.4 km climb to 6.2 % - Category 3
Km 99.5 - Col du Pas de Peyrol (Le Puy Mary) (1589 m) - 7.7 km climb to 6.2 % - Category 2
Km 116.0 - Col du Perthus (1309m) - 4.4 km climb to 7.9 % - Category 2
Km 127.5 - Col de Cère (1294 m) - 2.9 km climb to 6.3 % - Category 3
Km 139.5 - Côte de la Chevade - 3.0 km climb to 7.9 % - Category 3
Km 154.0 - Col de Prat de Bouc (Plomb du Cantal) (1392 m) - 8.0 km climb to 6.1 % - Category 2

Because we have some riders in the team, that will have problems today (Keukeleire, Vermeltfoort, Kittel), we take it slow today. 10 riders find each other in the break and will take a lot of minutes advantage: Grega Bole (Lampre), Vasil Kiryienka (Movistar), Cyril Gautier (Europcar), Rubén Pérez (Euskaltel), Sebastian Langeveld (Rabobank), Filippo Pozzato (Katusha), Mirko Selvaggi (Vacansoleil), Eros Capecchi (Liquigas), Bernhard Eisel (HTC), Aleksandr Kuschynski & Mikhail Ignatiev (Katusha) and Martin Elmiger (AG2R).
On the first climb of the day, the Côte de Massiac, Bole takes the points, followed by Kiryienka and Gautier. The peloton follows at 2'20.
img220.imageshack.us/img220/6731/1kotm1.jpg

Martin Elmiger is the first on the summit of the Col du Pas de Peyrol (Le Puy Mary) (1589 m) (7.7 km climb to 6.2 %), and extends his lead in the KOTM-rankings. Kiryienka and Gautier follow him. The peloton has taken it slowly in the last 50km and is 9'02 back.
img600.imageshack.us/img600/4319/2kotm2.jpg

16.5 kilometres later, Kiryienka takes the points on the 3rd climb of the day, the Col du Perthus (1309m) (4.4 km climb to 7.9 %). Elmiger has to settle with the 3rd place, with Capecchi in between. The peloton is 8'32 back. A lot of riders, especially the sprinters (eg Cavendish, Greipel) already loose contact with the peloton. With still 90km to go, it will be a hard day for them.
img20.imageshack.us/img20/9527/3kotm3.jpg

The leading group still has 80km to go, when Elmiger takes the points on the Col de Cère (1294 m). Bole is 2nd, Kiryienka 3rd. The peloton slowly closes the gap to 7'55.
img163.imageshack.us/img163/2788/4kotm4.jpg

12km further in the race, at the Côte de la Chevade, it's Elmiger again who wins another KOTM-sprint, in front of Kiryienka and Gautier. Eisel has already lost contact with the leading group. The peloton follows at 7'00.
img23.imageshack.us/img23/94/5kotm5.jpg

One tough climb to go, the Col de Prat de Bouc (Plomb du Cantal) (1392 m, 8.0 km climb to 6.1 %) with it's summit 54km from the finish. Kiryienka is the first to cross the line, followed by Gautier and Elmiger. This means Elmiger stays in the lead of the KOTM-rankings. 2'20 behind follow 3 riders that have escaped from the peloton: Pierrick Fédrigo (FDJ), Simon Gerrans (Sky) and Sylvain Chavanel (Quick Step). The peloton is 5'00 back and Leopard finally starts to make the pace in it.
img97.imageshack.us/img97/3915/6kotm6.jpg

30km from the finish is an Intermediate sprint, in the town of Neuvéglise. The 3 chasers have caught the leading group. Gerrans is th efirst in the sprint, with Gautier in 2nd and Elmiger in 3rd. The peloton follows at 2'47.
img855.imageshack.us/img855/2336/7is.jpg

Then when someone tries to jump away from the leading group, the camera switch back to the peloton. The reason is that we see Fränk Schleck in his maillot jaune attack. But when we look closer, we realize it's a counterattack. Ryder Hesjedal and Alexandre Vinokourov gave it a try. Andy Schleck jumps on the wheel of his brother, and it is a sign for numerous riders to give it a go: Gilbert, Evans, Schleck, Rodriguez, but none of them get away.
img210.imageshack.us/img210/1728/812km.jpg

When the camera goes back to the front, we see Sylvain Chavanel all alone up front. With 5km to go, he has a lead of '48 to Kiryienka, Fédrigo and Gerrans. The group of GC-favourites follow at 2'11.
img703.imageshack.us/img703/8121/95km.jpg

The last kilometres in Saint-Flour are verry difficult. The last 1500metres go uphill with an average gradient of 6.1%.
img684.imageshack.us/img684/7236/laatstekm.jpg

Chavanel brings the French crowd in extacy and is gonna win this stage! His lead is 1'01 to the 3 chasers and 1'56 to the group of GC-favourites.
img16.imageshack.us/img16/8716/101500m.jpg

It's the first win of the season for Chavanel and the 2nd year in a row he wins a stage in the Tour!
img197.imageshack.us/img197/6209/11finish.jpg

Simon Gerrans takes 2nd at 1'05, and Vasil Kiryienka just manages to stay ahead of the GC-favourites at 1'17. Andy Schleck tries to make a good sprint, but somehow gets passed by everyone. He finishes in 13th place, in the same time as Kiryienka.
img64.imageshack.us/img64/6656/12achtervolgers.jpg

Some of the GC-favourites loose time today: Van den Broeck, Kreuziger and Leipheimer loose '30, Samuel Sanchez 1'10 and Bradley Wiggins 1'23! 2 riders finish outside the time limit and have to leave the Tour: Jens Mouris (Vacansoleil) and David Boucher (Omega Pharma).

The winner today:
img849.imageshack.us/img849/7836/17chavanel.jpg

Word from the DS: We succeeded in two goals today, not losing time and everybody finishing inside the timelimit! So we were happy with that. Chavanel really deserved the win, with his attaking way of riding. Tomorrow is the rest day, then 2 stages in between before the Pyrenées.

Decent stage for Andy. You come closer and closer! Put a slash ( / ) in front of the color where it says

"GC: Fränk stays in yellow, Andy[color] moves up to 7th."

Then you don't have the whole text green Wink

Anyway, nice reports, good luck for the upcoming stages.

After a nice day without having to ride the bike, the peloton continues in stage 10 from Aurillac to Carmaux. It's short, only 144km, but is very hilly. The terrain in the Cévennes would suit a breakaway-win, so we decided in the teammeeting this morning that one of the riders should get in a breakaway!
img684.imageshack.us/img684/7775/profilsi.jpg

A group with Niki Terpstra tries to get away, but get caught near the Intermediate sprint in Maurs. Cyril Gautier (Europcar) is the first in that sprint, in front of Mirko Selvaggi (Vacansoleil) and Mikhail Ignatiev (Katusha).
img834.imageshack.us/img834/3084/1ise.jpg

The peloton climbs the first climb of the day, the Côte de Figeac (2.3 km, 6%, 3rd category) en groupe. Jakob Fuglsang is the first at the KOTM-sprint, in front of Niki Terpstra and Sebastien Rosseler.
img135.imageshack.us/img135/6938/2kotm1.jpg

En groupe? No, 2 riders get dropped on the climb and have to struggle for about 100kilometres to finish inside the time limit. These 2 are André Greipel and Jens Keukeleire, who has had some troubles with his intestines last night and feels pretty ill...
img838.imageshack.us/img838/8814/3keukgreip.jpg

In the part between the first 2 climbs, a trio have jumped away: veteran Chris Horner (Radio Shack), Ángel Madrazo (Movistar) and Niki Terpstra. Horner takes the only point on the Côte de Loupiac (2.5 km, 4.1%). The peloton is 2'14 back.
img4.imageshack.us/img4/7761/4kotm2.jpg

In the next climb, the Côte de Villefranche-de-Rouergue (4.1 km climb to 5.9%, 4th category), Terpstra struggles and has to let his fellow-breakaways go. At the summit (Horner wins the sprint in front of Madrazo) he is aready 1'30 back. At 4'58 follow Rigoberto Uran (Sky) and Nicholas Roche (AG2R), who have made the jump out of the peleton (that is 6'14 back).
img594.imageshack.us/img594/8346/5kotm3.jpg

On the last climb, the Côte de Mirandol-Bourgnounac (3.9 km, 4.1%) happens what everybody expects: Horner attacks and drops Madrazo. 17km to go and he leads with '25. Terpstra, Roche & Uran follow at 3'10, the peloton at 6'49.
img683.imageshack.us/img683/1194/6kotm4.jpg

But then an attack in the peloton! It's BMC's Cadel Evans who uses the last climb of the day to jump out of the peloton. Of course Andy Schleck reacts.
img266.imageshack.us/img266/3323/7evans.jpg

Meanwhile up front, Horner has entered the last 10km. He leads with '42, and it looks like it's going to be a victory for the American champion!
img571.imageshack.us/img571/4103/810km.jpg

Evans has been caught, ans immediately the next attack comes: Ryder Hesjedal is the one, and he is followed by Alberto Contador, Alexandre Vinokourov, Bradley Wiggins and again Andy Schleck.
img827.imageshack.us/img827/9877/9hesjedal.jpg

Chris Horner can celebrate his party, winning the 10th stage to Carmaux after a 17km solo. It's his 4th stage win of this year, after the national championship, and stages in the Vuelta de Mallorca and Paris - Nice. Ángel Madrazo finishes 2nd at '46.
img851.imageshack.us/img851/7421/10finish.jpg

Only 1'44 behind Horner we see Edvald Boasson Hagen easily winning the sprint for the 3rd place. Thomas de Gendt is the best placed Monster at 22nd position. Keukeleire and Greipel finish at 23'01, just inside the time limit.

Word from the DS: Niki Terpstra did a great job in getting in the BOTD. Especially Horner was too strong, so when he got dropped, he rode his own pace and took place in the peloton today. Andy Schleck lookes very sharp today. We decided that he wouldn't attack himself, but that he would jump at this opponents, when they tried.

Stage 11 in the Tour de France is the 2nd stage in the Cévennes and is the last stage before the 3 days in the Pyrenées. The GC-favourites want a relaxing day, to save energy. The sprinters will want a mass sprint.

What happened in this stage: 2 riders jumped away immediately after the start, Lars Boom (Rabobank) and Jérémy Roy (FDJ, again...). Roy win the first KOTM-sprint, Boom the 2nd. And the 2 kept their lead, the sprinter teams started the chase too late and underestimated the skills of the 2.
In the sprint-a-deux, Boom waited for Roy to start the sprint, and then easily overtook the Franch rider. So we saw the first win in the Tour de France for the talented DUtch rider.
1'10 later, Tyler Farrar won the sprint for 3rd place. Marcel Kittel was the best Monster in 13th place (11th in the sprint).

Sneeze..... Hu, what's that? Cough and sneeze again..... Ow no, Andy Schleck has got a cold and his nose his running... Well: don't let your opponents know this and try to make the best of it. Even though you're daily form is -5...

A big group of 15 riders form today's BOTD. In it are some good climbers,a nd some that want to start the climbing with some advantage: Pinot (FDJ), Arroyo (Movistar), Pietropolli & Pérez Arrieta (Lampre), Minard & Loubet & Dupont (AG2R), Monier (Cofidis), Willems & De Clerq (Omega Pharma), Pozzato (Katusha), Belkov (Vacansoleil), Rolland (Europcar), Rogers (Sky) and Caruso (Liquigas).
The Intermediate sprint in Sarrancolin, with still 92km to go, is won by Pinot, in front of Arroyo and Pietropolli. The peloton is 6'10 back.
img683.imageshack.us/img683/9209/1isu.jpg

Then the riders start climbing. At the slopes of the Hourquette d'Ancizan, Ivan Basso attacks out of the peloton. Because he has lost some minutes in the first 11 stages, he gets some room to do this. He is joined by Vasil Kiryienka (Movistar) and Roman Kreuziger (Astana).
img651.imageshack.us/img651/4661/2basso.jpg

The leading group can be found all over the slopes of the Hourquette d'Ancizan. Rogers is the first on the summit, closely followed by Rolland, Pinot and Dupont. Basso and his teammate Caruso follow at '34. Kreuziger and Kiryienka are 1'14 back. The peloton follows at 4'13.

The the Col du Tourmalet (2115m, 17km at 7.3%)
img812.imageshack.us/img812/5751/coldutourmaletsaintemar.jpg

Basso, Rogers and Rolland have been joined by Kreuziger and Kiryienka in the first kilometres of the Tourmalet. The five climb together and even enlarge their gap to the peloton.
img827.imageshack.us/img827/3794/4tourmalet.jpg

Basso goes for the KOTM-points and takes them. Krueziger is 2nd, Kiryienka 3rd. The peloton has taken it pretty slowly and follows at 6'16.

Chute, chute!!!!! A crash in the peloton and the rumour is it's Cadel Evans on the tarmac! We have to wait for the helicopter to film it, and yes, it's Cadel! And there's no BMC-rider nearby. Luckily he can continue the stage, but he has lost over a minute to the peloton!
img249.imageshack.us/img249/8076/8valevans.jpg

The riders approach the foot of the last climb of the day, to ski-resort Luz-Ardiden, alt. 1715m and 13km at 7.1%.
img718.imageshack.us/img718/3448/luzardiden.jpg

The ascent hasn't even started and Alberto Contador attacks out of the peloton. His acceleration is incredibly high, and no-one reacts(or they just can't!). Some of the favourites get isolated (Schleck-brothers, Wiggins, Nibali, Scarponi), some don't want to react (Sammy Sanchez). Andy gasps for some oxygen and has to let El Pistolero go. Contador is still 4'30 back to the leading group and quickly creates a gap of one minute to the peloton!
img684.imageshack.us/img684/6867/912kmcontador.jpg

The leading group of 4 have 5km left in this stage. Did I say 4? No, 3... Pierre Rolland has been dropped, so it's only Basso, Kiryienka and Kreuziger up front. Contador follows at 1'03 and the group maillot jaune at 2'29.
img101.imageshack.us/img101/4573/105kmd.jpg

Then it's time for Ivan Basso. He drops his 2 opponents and with 3km to go, he's all alone. In the back, we can see Contador who has joined Kreuziger and Kiryienka. They're '27 behind Basso. The group follows at 2'01.
img402.imageshack.us/img402/6139/113500m.jpg

Contador tries with all his energy to close the gap to Basso. 2km from the summit and he's '22 behind. This won't be enough for Contador! The group maillot jaune is 1'44 behind.
img101.imageshack.us/img101/2221/122km.jpg

El Pistolero sees the Italian riding a few metres in front of him. Last km, but still '14 back.
img5.imageshack.us/img5/4582/131km.jpg

One minute behind Contador, Andy Schleck tries to close some of the gap with an ultimate jump, but he doesn't get far. He gets short of air, and has to stop his attack.
img856.imageshack.us/img856/777/14andy.jpg

Ivan Basso manages to maintain his lead to Contador and wins the first mountain stage in the Tour de France, his first win this season. COntador finishes in 2nd at '18, but sets a big step to his 3rd Tour-win!
img21.imageshack.us/img21/3263/15finish.jpg

Samuel Sanchez finishes in 3rd at 1'24. Andy finishes in 4th place at 1'38 and needs one thing: the oxygen-mask... Cadel Evans eventually loses 3'39 to Basso today.

Word from the DS: You can call this a bad day, or see some good things in it. The bad: Thanks to his cold, Andy had an off day. He tried to do something but felt too bad to do it. The good: Contador wins time, Sanchez a little bit, but Andy doesn't lose time against Fränk, Wiggins, Nibali and even wins time on Evans, who unfortunately crashed... Hope Andy can recover, not fot tomorrow's stage over the Aubisque, but for the 3rd one in the Pyrenées to Plateau de Beille.

good luck with Andy

Spilak23
That is not a bad result with a daily form of -5. Andy is still only a half minute behind Contador with still a lot of mountains to come Wink

One of the worst stages to have a bad day! But you managed to minimize the losses pretty well!

Stage 13 is a strange stage. Between two mountain-top finishes in the Pyrenées, the 152.5km long stage from Pau to Lourdes has a flat first and last part. Only thing is that the riders have to clim the Col D'Aubisque, wit the summit 42.5km from the finish. This can turn out in 2 ways: a boring stage or one with dynamite in it!
img718.imageshack.us/img718/3919/profill.jpg

Almost immediately after the start of the stage, a group of 7 riders find each other in a breakaway. They get a maximum lead of about 7 minutes. Sergio Pardilla (Movistar) is the first in the first climb of the day, the Côte de Cuqueron (1.5 km at 8.1%, Cat. 3). He is followed by Sébastien Minard (ALM), Brent Bookwalter (BMC), Aleksandr Kuschynski (Katusha), Lars Boom (Rabobank) Kristof Vandewalle (Quick Step) and Bjorn Leukemans (Vacansoleil).
img9.imageshack.us/img9/6731/1kotm1.jpg

The 7 riders maintain their lead to the 2nd climb of the day, the Côte de Belair (1.0km at 8.4%, Cat. 4). Pardilla takes the only point at the summit. edging out Bookwalter and Kuschynski. With almost 90km to go, the lead is still 6'57.
img824.imageshack.us/img824/4319/2kotm2.jpg

The Intermediate sprint is located in Bielle, a few kilometres away from the foot of the Col D'Aubisque. The BOTD doesn't sprint for it, and it's Kristof Vandewalle who crosses the line in first place, followed by Pardilla and Kuschyinski. The peloton is 5'30 back.

The riders start the 16.4km climb of the Col D'Aubisque with an average gradient of 7.1%. The peek is at 1709metres.
img510.imageshack.us/img510/9387/coldelaubisquelarunspro.jpg

When the first half of the ascend is done, we see the first attacks out of the peloton. Rigoberto Urán (Sky), Ivan Basso (Liquigas) and Roman Kreuziger (Astana) attack and pass Andreas Klöden, who attacked a few km before. The leading group has lost a lot of their advantage, and is only 1'42 in front of the peloton.
img194.imageshack.us/img194/2811/455km.jpg

Basso, Kreuziger and Urán don't get bothered and they create a gap. Then with 2km of climbing to go, it's BMC's Cadel Evans who attacks. The Aussie sure wants to regain some time after his crash yesterday. A few riders react: Sandy Casar (FDJ), Pierre Rolland (Europcar) and Klöden. The others wait, it's still a long way to Lourdes!
img266.imageshack.us/img266/8797/5evans.jpg

Ivan Basso is the first on the summit of the Col D'Aubisque. It looks like he is aiming for the polkadot jersey this year! 30 seconds behind follow Klöden, Casar, Kreuziger, Evans, Rolland, Urán and Pardilla. The peloton follows at 1'15.
img69.imageshack.us/img69/6779/6aubisque.jpg

In the descend of the Aubisque and the small climb of the Soulor, a lot happens. Sanchez, Nibali, Hesjedal, Scarponi, Vinokourov, Wiggins and Fränk Schleck ride away. Andy Schleck paid attention to Contador, and both of them missed the cut!
img823.imageshack.us/img823/4870/7afdaling.jpg

Back on the flat, we can overview the situation: Casar, Scarponi, Rolland & Basso are leading. Hesjedal, Evans, Nibali, Vinokourov, Van den Broeck, Mosquera, Sanchez, Wiggins and GC-leader Fränk Schleck follo at '32. Andy and Contador, together with Antón & Rodriguez, are 2'03 back!!
img51.imageshack.us/img51/6910/820km.jpg

Contador attacks a few times, but when others react, he stops again. So with 15km to go, Andy makes an attack whie riding 1'12 behind the leading group (the 2 groups have joined).
img534.imageshack.us/img534/6558/915km.jpg

12km to go, and a different situation up front: Van den Broeck, Kreuziger, Mosquera, Fränk, and Evans take a lead of '24 to the 2nd part of the leading group. Group Andy/Contador is 1 minute back.
img845.imageshack.us/img845/5491/1012km.jpg

But with 8km to go, Andy joins the leading group and wants to ride to the front of the group. But before he can do that, again 6 riders jump away: Nibali, Gadret, Sanchez, Fränk Schleck, Evans and Scarponi.
img600.imageshack.us/img600/773/118km.jpg

The 6 work together and enter the last 5km with 40 seconds ahead of the chasing group.
img522.imageshack.us/img522/552/125km.jpg

Entering the last km, they still have a lead of '36. Sanchez starts the sprint, but Nibali and Evans come from behind!
img510.imageshack.us/img510/4582/131km.jpg

It's Cadel who wins, the ultimate revenge for yesterday's bad stage! Sanchez is 2nd, Nibali 3rd.
img829.imageshack.us/img829/5808/14finish.jpg

Kreuziger wins the sprint for 7th place at '34. Andy finishes in 17th.

Word from the DS: Things don't work out the way we want to. Instead of closing the gap to the riders in front of us, we lost another 34 seconds in this crazy stage. The cycling-fans at home must have seen a thrilling stage again!

The Tour's 14th stage is a relayively short one, only 168km, but a very tough one. One clim from 3th category, 2 from 2nd category, 2 from 1st category and a mountain-top finish on the Plateau de Beille, hors category. This will surely separate the boys from the men and the timelimit will cause some riders to be forced to go home. We fear for some of our team...
Km 26.5 - Col de Portet-d'Aspet (1 069 m) - 4.3 km climb to 9.7 % - Category 2
Km 62.5 - Col de la Core (1 395 m) - 14.1 km climb to 5.7 % - Category 1
Km 94.0 - Col de Latrape (1 110 m) - 5.6 km climb to 7.2 % - Category 2
Km 109.0 - Col d'Agnes (1 570 m) - 10.0 km climb to 8.2 % - Category 1
Km 118.0 - Port de Lers (1 517 m) - 3.8 km climb to 5.5 % - Category 3
Km 168.5 - Plateau de Beille - 15.8 km climb to 7.9 % - Category H

The peloton starts pretty slowly today, no escapes before th summit of today;s first KOTM-sprint, the Col de Portet-d'Aspet. No one sprints for the points, so it's Andy Schleck who takes the most points, followed by Jens Voigt and Maxime Monfort.
img267.imageshack.us/img267/162/1kotm.jpg

The peloton stays together in the descend to Orgibet, where the Intermediate sprint is located. Frederik Willems (Omega Pharma) and Michael Schär attack before it, but the peloton, that is lead by Daniele Bennati follows at a few seconds.
img443.imageshack.us/img443/2554/2isb.jpg

In the ascend tot the summit of the Col de la Core, the first riders get into difficulty and get dropped by the peloton. That peloton is almost en groupe at the summit of the Co de la Core. Sylvain Chavanel (Quick Step) takes the points. followed by Carlos Barredo Rabobank) and Andy Schleck.
img801.imageshack.us/img801/2397/3kotm2.jpg

The party begins in the climb of the Col de Latrape. First Rigoberto Urán, Roman Kreuziger (Astana) and Andreas Klöden (Radio Shack) jumped away, and now they are followed by Ivan Basso, the winner of the stage to Luz-Ardiden.
img213.imageshack.us/img213/9219/481km.jpg

Basso wins the KOTM-sprint, in front of Kreuziger and Klöden. Leopard - Trek makes the pace in the peloton, but when you lose 6'20 in the peloton it can impossibly be called a high pace.
img441.imageshack.us/img441/8346/5kotm3.jpg

Next climb, the Col d'Agnes. At the summit there are still 60kilometres left in this stage. The gap of the leading four riders to the peloton gets enormous, over 11 minutes at the summit! Of course Basso wins the sprint, in front of Kreuziger and Uran. Some riders follow in between the leading group and the peloton: Chavanel and Pierre Rolland (Europcar) at 4'14 and David Moncoutié (Cofidis) at 5'48.
img684.imageshack.us/img684/1194/6kotm4.jpg

The Port de Lers is the penultimate climb of the stage. Basso u sfirst on the summit, followed by Jlöden and Uran. The peloton is 11'50 back, with 50km to go. This means Ivan Basso, who lost a lot of time in the first week of the tour, is in virtual yellow. And not Leopard, not Saxo Bank and not Euskaltel wants to fasten the pace. So in the descend, we send Mark de Maar and Thomas de Gendt up front of the peloton to close the gap
img685.imageshack.us/img685/8947/7kotm5.jpg

20km to go, a few kilometres before the start of the last climb to Plateau de Beille, we can overview the current situation. BAsso, Kreuziger, Klöden and Uran are in the lead, with Rolland & Chavanel at 3'48, Moncoutié at 5'45 and the peloton at 10'00. There are only 50 riders left in the peloton, the rest is struggling behind and fighting against the timelimit.
img269.imageshack.us/img269/6910/820km.jpg

The last climb of the day, the Plateau de Beille, is 15.8km long with an average gradient of 7.9%. 1235 height metres bring the riders to an altitude of 1780metres.
img21.imageshack.us/img21/6063/plateaudebeille.jpg

After 6km of climbing and still 10 left, the 4 leaders have become 4 leaders. Urán can't follow the pace, mostly done by Klöden and Basso, and gets dropped. The peloton is still 9'36 back, what means Basso is still in virtual yellow (+ 8.55) but probably won't manage to hold on to it.
img850.imageshack.us/img850/9503/910km.jpg

After 5 more kilometres of climbing, als Kreuziger has been dropped. It's up to the 2 veterans Klöden and Basso to fight for the stage win.
img801.imageshack.us/img801/3599/105km.jpg

Meanwhile, a few kilometres down the road, Andy has decided to set a high pace to drop some of his opponents and to close the gap to the leaders.
img69.imageshack.us/img69/5733/11groep7km.jpg

When the chasing group has 6km to ride, Cadel Evans attacks. Sánchez follows, while Andy continues in his own pace, and closes the small gap again.
img821.imageshack.us/img821/3464/12evans6km.jpg

The leaders have 3km to go, when Klöden cracks. So it's Ivan Basso again for the win, what will be his 2nd in 3 stages in the Pyrenées!
img18.imageshack.us/img18/8450/133km.jpg

Back to the chasing group. They have 3km left, when Alberto Contador attacks. This time, Andy Schleck tries to counterattack. But he has lost a lot of energy already in the climb. But not Evans, not Sammy Sanchez, not brother Fränk can react.
img828.imageshack.us/img828/3457/14contador3km.jpg

What an epic win for Ivan Basso, what brings him back in the list as GC-favourites! Klòden gets 2nd at 1'18, Kreuziger 3rd at 3'16 and Urán 4th at 6'04.
img844.imageshack.us/img844/3263/15finish.jpg

Contador passes Rolland before the finish and is 6'24 back to Basso. Andy looses '36 to Contador and finishes at 7'00. Good news is that he wins '19 to Evans, '23 to Nibali, brother Fränk and Antón and '42 to Sánchez.
img847.imageshack.us/img847/6607/16achtervolgers.jpg

While waiting for the grupetto to finish, we already know that 2 riders from the team will finish outside the time, Sebastien Rosseler & Jens Keukeleire. That happens, but unfortunately, also Marcel Kittel had to let the grupetto go before the finish and as to leave the Tour as well, just as Mark Cavendish, André Greipel, JJ Haedo, Alan Davis, Karsten Kroon and Sebastian Langeveld. In total 26 riders finished outside the timelimit, including both our sprinters...

Word from the DS: We can be satisfied with this stage. ALthough Andy lost time to Contador, he finally was able to win some time against the others. Too bad that Basso got so much room from the other teams, that he is back in the race for the podium. All is open for the Alps, but it will be difficult to beat Contador!

Conta is strong, but you did well with Andy here.. it's still funny to see Fränk on 1st Wink Epic win by Basso.. good luck for the upcoming stages of Le Tour!

I've realised that beating Contador will be almost impossible. I'll try to win some seconds in the stages to Gap and to Italy, and ride 2 strong stages in the Alps.
It's very hard to see that whenever it comes to an uphill sprint, Andy gets beaten by everyone, that he can't set a great attack, and that he can't drop the others while riding a high pace. Maybe I should try a move like he did irl in the Alps, but I don't think the others give him the freedom as they did with Basso...

Schleck96
It is not going to be easy mate

rorzcp
You need to attack with andy because he needs some more time Grin

dienblad
@ Schleck96: I know, I know.......

@ rorzcp: I've got that in my mind, but the problem was bad daily form in the Pyrenées. -5 to Luz-Ardiden, 0 to Lourdes and -2 to Plateau de Beille. Like I said, my tactic will be to attack in the stages to Gap and to Pinerolo (knowing that it'll only be seconds) and then again in the Alps (I want minutes Smile). So the odds are open (but already thinking about next year, maybe sending Gesink to the Tour then 'cause he's a better TT than Andy)

Not so bad...Andy just need one stage with +5.....the rest comes with mouse click...Wink

Stage 15 from Limoux to Montpellier. 193km long and someone forgot to put some mountains in it. It's flat, no KOTM-sprints, so the penultimate chance for the sprinters to win a stage.
img809.imageshack.us/img809/4439/profilxk.jpg

Losing our 2 sprinters yesterday, made us determined in being in a rake today. Niki Tepstra and Martijn Maaskant are the 2 that can try it today. After some unsuccesful attempts from both of them, finally Maaskant succeeds. Together with Frederik WIllems (Omega Pharma), Bjorn Leukemans (Vacansoleil), George Hincapie (BMC), Simone Ponzi (Liquigas) and Damien Monier (Cofidis) he forms today BOTD, and they'll get a maximum lead of 6 minutes.
At the Intermediate sprint in Montagnac Maaskant takes the points, followed by Belgians WIllens and Leukemans. The peloton is 4'35 back. It has started raining cats and dogs...
img14.imageshack.us/img14/4351/1isy.jpg

Unfortunately for Damien Monier, 6 becomes 5. The Cofidis-rider has a flat tire and can't return in the leading group. Behind him, we see a very strange situation: 6 sprinters (EBH, Petacchi, Farrar, Boonen, Greipel and Feillu) have created a small gap to the peloton, after sprinting for the IS-points. The peloton doesn't want to close them in, so the 6 swim between the leading group and the peloton, and this will stay untill the finish!
img843.imageshack.us/img843/3791/2lek.jpg

With 20km to go, the rain has stopped and the 5 are still in th elead. The chasing group of sprinters (and Monier) follow at 2'21, the peloton at 4'01.
img717.imageshack.us/img717/7332/320km.jpg

When the dark clouds are back above the leading group and it can start raining again every second, the two Belgium riders attack. It must be a deal between them! Maaskant doesn't react and waits untill Hincapie has brought them all together.
img511.imageshack.us/img511/5223/417km.jpg

And old George does it. 8km to go, 5 man go for the win and the chasing sprinters are 1'20 behind. The peloton 4'07. The rain comes pouring down again.
img641.imageshack.us/img641/9046/58km.jpg

Maaskant is in the wheel of Simone Ponzi, who should be the best sprinter in this group. But is he, after almost 200km in dreadful weather? Leukemans has taken the lead of the group. Down the road, we can see the chasing group, only '48 behind. The leading group can't hesitate too long, or they will be surprised by the sprinters!
img442.imageshack.us/img442/3852/63km.jpg

Last kilometre and here comes the acceleration of the oldest rider in the BOTD. It looks like Maaskant has chosen the wrong wheel!
img37.imageshack.us/img37/2505/71km.jpg

400metres before the finish and Hincapie has even created a small gap to his opponents. Maaskant is in 3rd and is aiming for a podium!
img833.imageshack.us/img833/7662/8400m.jpg

Here is the first win of the season for George Hincapie, and the second stage win this Tour for BMC (Evans won stage 13 to Lourdes). Behind him Maaskant overtakes Ponzi and finishes in 2nd. The chasing group finishes in the same time, with Boonen being the best sprinter. The peloton has had an easy day, 3'32 behind the winner.

Word from the DS: Well done by Martijn Maaskant, too bad that Old Geroge was too strong. But he can be really happy and the best rider in the break won.

We received good news out of Spain:

So after the Giro and the Tour, we also received a wild card for the Vuelta. Robert Gesink will aim for his 2nd big win this year. Question is whom will be his opponents then: Sammy Sánchez? Mosquera? Fränk Schleck? Wiggins? Evans? We´ll see.
