Free WIFI in the holiday house
But don't expect reports, maybe when it's raining a lot.

I'm back home from the holiday in the German Eifel (in the town of Ellenz-Poltersdorf, near Cochem) and in the Belgian Ardennes (between Sougné-Remouchamps and Theux). I played only the first stage of the Tour de Langkawi, and will play the next stage of the Tour Down Under this weekend (and the report of course).
Holiday was fun, but really different when you have a baby with you (some will know, some have really not a single idea as the are way to young to even have a baby ). So I had only 3 short bike rides. 1 in the Eifel (pretty bad weather) with 1 climb (3km at 7% average between the wine fields, so nice) and 2 in the Ardennes. 1 punctured during the first one, while ascending the Maquisard and then then reserve tube kind of exploded back in the holiday home ). The 2nd one was 45km, with 4 climbs and 800 height metres, including the Maquisard again, the Cote de Louveigne, the Jevoumont and of course the Cote de la Redoute. What a horrible climb that last one is for a not very trained (and a bit overweighed) cyclist like me. 1600m at 9.5%, with a max gradient of 20%, and above 10% for more than 1000 metres..... Horrible, still feel my legs. But.... I experieced that my new bike (the Cube GTC Agree Pro) is very stable while descending with 75km/h

Stage 5
I really don't know why, but stage 5 is classified as flat. It features 2 ascends of the Old Willunga Hill, and the finish is at the summit of the 2nd ascend.
25km to go
4 riders form the BOTD and they are already ascending the Old Willunga Hill for the first time. William Bonnet (Garmin), Denis Galimzyanov (Katusha), Laurent Beuret (Red Bull) and Jonathan Clarke (UnitedHealthcare) lead the peloton by 1'58, and that margin is decreasing rapidly.
2500m to go
The 4 get caught when they arrive at the foot of the final ascend. Matti Breschel starts the climb in a great position, in the wheel of 3 team mates. His biggest opponent Filippo Pozzato has fund the wheel of the Danish GC-leader.
1500m to go
With about 1500 metres to go, Bernie Eisel is the first to start his sprint. Pozato immediately reacts and jumps in the back wheel of the Austrian. Breschel knows that he has to hang on now, and follows Pozzato, with Tom Boonen in his wheel.
800m to go
EIsel starts to stall a bit and Pozzato takes over. The Italian is incredibly strong and leaves his opponents behind. Breschel gives all he has to stay in the wheel of the BMC-rider, but Pozzato is too strong!
Finish
What a display of power! Filippo Pozzato wins at the Old Willunga Hill and takes his 2nd stage win in this Tour Down Under. 14 seconds behind him, Matti Breschel crosses the finish line in 2nd place. This is enough to stay in the GC-lead, but it has costed him a lot of energy...

Word from the DS
Wow, Pozzato was strong here! But Breschel did a great job and the GC-win looks certain!

A good result, Pozzato seemed unstoppable anyway, so 2nd is very nice. GC win is in the pocket now, normally |

Stage 6
The final stage in the 2014 Tour Down Under is a 90 kilometre criterium in the streets of Adelaide.
28km to go
The final stage means the final chance for our Aussie Jack Bobridge to win a stage. Therefore, he is in the BOTD, together with Matteo Tosatto (Lampre) and Stijn Vandenbergh (Katusha). The 3 create a maximum margin of 2 minutes, as the sprinter teams are determined to let the stage end in a mass sprint.
Finish
And just as the 2 other mass sprints, noone can beat Mark Cavendish. The Manx Missile takes his 3rd stage win, and also the points jersey. So it's a great start of the season for him! John Degenkolb shows why he left the M&M's team and joined Sony Ericsson, willing to ride the World Tour races, and takes the 2nd place, with Tom Boonen in 3rd.
Matti Breschel rode a bad sprint, due to bad positioning, and finishes in 14th place. But more important, he wins the Santos Tour Down Under for the 2nd year in a row!!
