@Sutty: Well 6 stages have been targeted as winning stages, so the demand for 5 stage wins has been accepted
Lets go and own those stages then Mr Cavendish |

2nd July 2011 - Le Tour de France
(Passage du Gois - Mont des Alouettes)
Le Tour de France has arrived, and stage 1 is a flat route from Passage du Gois to Mont des Alouettes. Breaking from tradition, this Tour does not start with a prologue, so whoever wins the stage will be the first Yellow Jersey wearer of 2011.
Seen as a stage for the sprinters, the 5% 2km climb to the finish will definitely make it a finish to watch out for!
12km: The stage began with an attack from a number of riders. A total of 9 riders managed to get away as the peleton crossed the Passage du Gois.
19km: Sadly for the escapees, the HTC guys had their orders... Don't let anyone get away until after the Intermediate Sprint!
23km: The 9 riders were soon pulled back, but almost instantly another group went off, including Andre Greipel! This small group definitely couldn't get to the Sprint Point first!
86km: The Greipel group only got a maximum of 1'03" over the HTC led peleton, and soon it was also pulled back. We came to the Sprint Point all together, but I just didn't have the legs to win it. Boasson Hagen went early, and it paid off as he took the maximum 20 points.
102km: With their job done, the HTC guys pulled off the front, and the attacks could recommence. Lars Boom (Rabobank) went off first, and was followed by J.J. Haedo (SaxoBank).
123km: With the peleton gently rolling along, I could sit back, showing off the new British Champions Jersey on my shoulders. It was an honour to wear it in the Tour!
156km: As the Boom/Haedo group got over 5'34" over the peleton, Liquigas and Euskatel hit the front and took control.
163km: As pace increased, so riders hit difficulty and dropped off the back. Surprisingly, one of the first was Michele Scarponi (Lampre)! He would eventually cross the finish line 28'09" after the peleton. His Tour looks over after stage 1!
173km: What is this!! I couldn't believe my eyes... The Dutch National Champions Jersey is almost identical to mine! This could be confusing for the Commissionaires!
179km: With 20km to go, Boom was caught, and it was looking set to be a Sprint Finish.
197km: With me ruled out of the sprint, thanks to the steep finish, HTC just sat back and let Sky take control. As the sprint began, it was Boasson Hagen who was looking the strongest, but Damiano Cunego (Lampre) and Peter Sagan (Liquigas) were look good behind...
199km: And it's victory to Sagan! The young Slovakian takes a superb win, in his first Tour de France! Further back, I crossed the line in 54th.

@Rogvi: The plan was to have a go with Suitsou, but he was badly placed, and before I knew it, it was too late to have a go with someone else. With it being classed as a 'flat' stage, the lead outs were in full motion, and the sprints started before the climb began.
@Daggen: The start could have been better if Cav had won the Sprint Point. Mis-timed it and Boasson Hagen took advantage. Double post by the way (Nice banner )
@Sutty: Sagan looked good on the uphill sprint, but was nowhere near the rest of us in the flatter Intermediate Sprint. How he fairs in a flat sprint finish will be shown on stage 3

3rd July 2011 - Le Tour de France
(Les Essarts TTT)
Stage 2 is an out and back Team Time Trial around the town of Les Essarts. At 23km, it's length should not cause too many time gaps between the teams, but the GC favourites will still want to limit any losses.
HTC come into the stage as favourites, and we are aiming for at a Top 3 finish.
0km: HTC were the 8th team off the start, with the task of chasing down a very strong BMC team.
8km: Crossing the first Checkpoint, we were 10th on the Provisional Standings, 13" down on BMC.
12km: With us down at the first split, the order was given to up the pace. Sadly for Bernie, Renshaw and myself, the pace was a bit too high, and we had to drop off the back
16km: At the 2nd checkpoint, we were up to third, ahead of BMC, but 17" behind FDJ and SaxoBank. The team was also down to five, as Suitsou dropped off.
23km: Crossing the line, the team were on the edge, but what a performance... We smashed the time of FDJ and Saxobank, coming home in 29'51", 31" quicker than SaxoBank.
The time stood up until Leopard and Garmin crossed the line. Leopard finished in 29'27", with Garmin 22" behind them in second place.

@sutty: There was no way that HTC could keep Cav within the team on the TTT and come away with that result. There were no Points on offer at the finish, so there was no problem with Cav dropping off, and taking it easy.
@Ian: I was really happy with the performance. Took some tips from the PCMNorway how to video on youtube! Very helpful. Normally I just sim a TTT.

4th July 2011 - Le Tour de France
(Olonne-sur-Mer - Redon)
Stage 3 takes the peleton from the Vendée region into Brittany, for the first real Sprinter's stage! Flat route all day, there is not enough of a rise in the stage to classify a Mountain Sprint.
All about the finish today, and hopefully stage win number 1 of this year's Tour.
23km: Seven riders got away at the start of the stage, working well together to quickly build up a 2'05" gap.
31km: Cofidis and Team Sky took control over the early stages of the race, keeping the break under tabs.
54km: 3 more riders attacked to join the break, and with fresher legs in the group, the pace really accelerated.
104km: With ten riders out front, 11th place and 5 points was up for grabs at the Intermediate Sprint. Tyler Farrar took the 5 points, and I crossed the line 13th place, picking up 3 points. With 87km to go, the break was 6'04" ahead of the peleton
134km: Goodbye to Vendée and into Brittany we go. The gap was down to 4'46" to the break, and it was looking inevitable that this would be a Mass Sprint Finish.
165km: The wind picked up as we crossed into Brittany, and the fastening pae of the peleton caused it to splinter. Surprisingly though, some GC favourites were thrown out the back, including Frank Schleck (Leopard), Fredrik Kessiakoff (Astana) and yet again Michele Scarponi (Lampre). It was a case of limiting their losses now...
176km: As the gap to the leading group dropped under the 2'00" mark, Jérémy Roy (FDJ) attacked, hoping to jump across to the break.
179km: With Roy attack, the pace was upped again by the peleton, and yet more riders couldn't keep the pace. This time it was Vincenzo Nibali (Liquigas) who was spat out of the back...
181km: With the break in sight, Juan Antonio Flecha (Sky) and Lars Boom (Rabobank) decided to make one last attack for glory, but could they make it stick.
184km: With 7km to go, the break was still nowhere to be seen. The Roy/Flecha/Boom attacks had disorganised everyone, and they added more steam to the break staying away.
186km: As we entered the last 5km, the break was still 1'04" ahead. We took full control, with Lars hitting the front at full gas.
190km: With the sprint underway, the break was still holding us off. I don't think they are going to be caught...
191km: Victory for Davis! The Australian rider holds off the advancing peleton to take the stage win. I finished 9th, with my Green Jersey rivals finishing 16th and lower. Amazing the peleton split in the final 2km, with a large number of GC riders coming in 1'26" after Davis. The Nibali group finished 5'13" down, and the Schleck/Kessiakoff group a further 2'31" after them. Scarponi rolled home on his own, and is now the Lanterne Rouge, 39'54" behind Cancellara on GC!
